Message from the Principal Dear Parents & Guardians It has been an amazing two weeks since our last newsletter. I have spoken to many parents who have concerns relating to the COVID-19 virus and the impacts on their children and the school. We continue to progress planning for all possible contingencies in the event of school closure, and have been advised by Victoria’s Chief Health Office that all schools should continue to operate as planned for now. I would like to update you on the following:

i) As of midnight Sunday 15/3/2020 all travellers who have returned from overseas are required to self-isolate. As such any student or family member returning from overseas should not return to school until 14 days after arrival into Australia and then only if they remain symptom free.

ii) I urge all families (in line with government advice) to limit overseas travel unless absolutely necessary. This particularly applies to holidays over the Term 1/Easter vacation.

iii) All off-site excursions have been cancelled until the end of Term. All assemblies/gathering of students/parents have also been cancelled.

Our aim is to run instructional classes for as long as possible, so long as the school remains infection free and that Government advice is to do so. Obviously families will make individual decisions about whether to continue to send children to school during the next two weeks. As a result, I have made decisions to cancel schedule swimming program this week and school photos scheduled for next Wednesday. We are currently liaising with the swimming centre and MSP photography to reschedule.

COMPASS is our school main form of communication with parents, where you will receive updated information of any developments at school. I encourage parents to ensure that they are logged in to COMPASS to receive these

updates. Contact the office if you require your unique username and password. Parents have access to up-to-date information about their child’s progress. Using COMPASS you will be able to use many features, including the ability to:

Monitor your child’s attendance, and enter an explanation for absence or lateness

Communicate with your child’s teachers, and update your family details

Download and view your child’s semester reports.

Receive news feeds specific to your child/s year level

Parents can access COMPASS online via our school website

through the Parent Portal tab or can download the App onto your

phone.

Mathletics & Reading Eggs All students have received their unique login details to access Mathletics and Reading Eggs. This is a secure online platform that enables students to reinforce understandings and skills learnt at school by accessing curriculum content set up by your child’s classroom teacher. Students have access to a full set of curriculum activities aligned to the Australian Curriculum, designed to engage students and develop students’ knowledge and understanding in an interactive fun learning environment. Just a reminder that we are needing donations for our Easter raffle and would like to ask all families to donate an Easter egg or related gift to the school for our raffle.

Every child who makes a donation will be given a ticket for the special donator’s raffle.

Please send Easter donations to the school office by Monday 23 March.

Please don’t forget to buy your raffle ticket for the Easter raffle.

Tickets are $1. You won’t want to miss it!

The Easter Raffle and the special donator’s prize will be drawn at the school office, on 25 March. Winners

will be notified.

CELEBRATION OF MOOMBA FESTIVAL

Monday 09-03-2020

Last Monday, eight students of our school and two ex-students (Ruby

Tran, Trang Ngo, Jessica Nguyen, Anna Luu, Justin Luu, Stephanie

Diep, Lilliana Tran, Amy Pham, Lina Hoang, Tien Hoang and their

parents) represented St Albans East PS at the Moomba festival. It

was a great privilege to once again to represent the Vietnamese

Community at this amazing festival. Thank you our Principal Mr

Busuttil and our school community for always encouraging and

supporting our students on their desire and passion. We all had fun on

Mathletics & Reading Eggs

Tất cả học sinh đã nhận được chi ti‰t đăng nhập cá

nhân để truy cập Mathletics và Reading Eggs. Đây là

chÜÖng trình h†c trực tuyến an toàn cho môn Toán

và tÆp ñ†c, cho phép học sinh củng cố những hiểu

biết và kỹ năng học được ở trường bằng cách truy

cập nội dung chương trình giảng dạy được thiết lập

bởi giáo viên lớp học cûa con quí vÎ. Học sinh có th‹

truy cập vào tÃt cä nh»ng bài vª và sinh hoåt phù hợp

với Chương trình giảng dạy cûa Victoria, được thiết

kế để thu hút học sinh và phát triển kiến thức cÛng

nhÜ s¿ hiểu biết của học sinh trong một môi trường

học tập vui vẻ tương tác.
