> Do you already know what you want to do as a job?

> Do you have what it takes to balance real work skills with real pay and College study?

If you answered yes to these questions, then you would do well on an apprenticeship programme.

An intermediate/advanced apprenticeship framework is a programme of learning that has been specially designed for people who want to learn new skills and gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst working. You will spend most of your time developing your skills in the workplace with your employer but will also attend College, usually for one day per week, to improve your knowledge and skills.

Generally you will complete an intermediate apprenticeship (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at Grades A-C) before progressing to an advanced apprenticeship (equivalent to 2 A Levels). For some programmes, you will go directly to advanced apprenticeships.

Following an interview and assessment, an offer of a place on an apprenticeship programme is subject to candidates having employment for a minimum of 30 hours per week with a suitable employer, who is willing to support them throughout the apprenticeship.

Further information about apprenticeships can be found on www.apprenticeships.org.uk

SKILLS CENTRE COURSESProgrammes of Study Every student who attends the Skills Centre has the opportunity to study for an industry recognised qualification. The Skills Centre delivers courses in motor vehicle studies, engineering, construction, hair & beauty, hospitality & catering and IT. In addition to these, students have access to an extended range of courses on the main college campus. These qualifications support a seamless transition into post 16 education and training.

Extended Skills Centre Activities In addition to the Key Stage 4 vocational curriculum offer, the skills centre supports schools in many different ways:

z Primary STEM The centre is proud of the support it offers to our local primary schools. We have developed a range of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities that support the curriculum delivery at key stages 1 and 2.

z Transition Work The skills centre supports local schools with the transition from primary education to secondary and from secondary to post 16.

z International Partnerships The skills centre has hosted two successful transatlantic partnership projects between schools in North Lincolnshire and California, USA. These projects have culminated in cultural exchange visits to Los Angeles for our students and return visits for the students from the USA.

Our purpose built centre represents a major facility for hundreds of Year 10/11 pupils around North Lincolnshire. Furthermore, it firmly signals our intent to continue building links with the secondary and special schools around the area.

"School pupils attend the College's specialist purpose built skills centre for vocational courses in many areas of learning…Provision for 14-16 year olds is exemplary. The College has been particularly successful in transforming the lives and prospects of many young people through its innovative and highly successful work with local schools." OfSTED 2010

The John White Skills Centre provides dedicated classrooms, vocational training areas, ICT facilities and an outside recreational area.

We currently have in excess of 400 Key Stage 4 pupils enrolled on our vocational courses, all of whom benefit from our 30 years of experience in providing specially designed programmes for learners aged under 16. In September 2010 we extended our provision with a brand new rural skills centre in Barton upon Humber.

The skills centre enables schools to offer an extended curriculum choice at Key Stage 4 for their learners. The programmes of study within the centre are timetabled alongside that of each participating school.
