He talked about a game he played growing up called King of the Raſt. The premise of the game was whoever sat atop the raſt was king. Simple game that would entertain my friends and me for hours. An easy trick for the king was to make their way to the deep end because it was harder to get flipped off. So, we who were in the water would pull the raſt back to the shallow end and flip it. It was a prey simple concept but lead to more fist fights than I would like to say hap- pened. The moral of the story was that the one who controls the raſt, controlled the king. You were at the mercy of the one in the water pulling the raſt around. 2020 has felt like we were on the raſt plenty of mes, geng pulled to and fro with one major need or catastrophe to another. However, there is assurance in the storm and peace from the waters. If you be- lieve in the Lord, you have faith in his plan as he has control of your raſt. So I encourage everyone read- ing this to not let the waves and the pulls of 2020 connue to worry you, to stress you out, or force you to jump ship on yourself or your neighbors but to have peace in the moment. See the blessings of the moments and set a new perspecve of 2020, not a tough year that knocked us down but a tough year that brought us together, gave us a voice, and made us beer neighbors and friends. Recently, my pastor told a story in his sermon that gave me those nostal-gic feelings from when I was younger and playing with friends in the sum-mer. He talked about a game he played growing up called King of the Raft. The premise of the game was whoever sat atop the

raft was king. Simple game that would entertain my friends and me for hours. An easy trick for the king was to make their way to the deep end because it was harder to get flipped off. So, we who were in the water would pull the raft back to the shallow end and flip it. It was a pretty simple concept but lead to more fist fights than I would like to say hap-pened. The moral of the story was that the one who controls the raft, controlled the king. You were at the mercy of the one in the water pulling the raft around.

2020 has felt like we were on the raft plenty of times, getting pulled to and fro with one major need or catastrophe to another. From COVID or mur-derous hornets, sandstorms or hurricanes crossing

paths in the Gulf of Mexico, it always seems to be something. It can be exhausting and can make what we enjoy doing work. However, there is assurance in the storm and peace from the waters. If you be-lieve in the Lord, you have faith in his plan as he has control of your raft. So I encourage everyone read-ing this to not let the waves and the pulls of 2020 continue to worry you, to stress you out, or force you to jump ship on yourself or your neighbors but to have peace in the moment. See the blessings of the moments and set a new perspective of 2020, not a tough year that knocked us down but a tough year that brought us together, gave us a voice, and made us better neighbors and friends. Have piece in who is controlling your rafts and lift your neighbors up.

Ezra 1:4 “And let each survivor, in whatever place he sojourns, be assisted by the men of his place with silver and gold, with goods and with beasts, besides freewill offerings for the house of God that is in Jerusalem.”

Bob Branch was born on De-cember 29, 1962 and grew up in Sale City, Georgia on a farm with his parents, Bobby and Mary Frances Branch, who are now deceased, and his sister, Lucy. Bob loved living on the farm and helping his dad. He especially loved tractors and farming equipment and knew every model that his dad had

as well as all the other farmers living in the area. Bob has a great memory and does not forget a thing! Growing up he was very active in the United Methodist church in Doerun, Georgia and he attended Ravenwood Academy in Meigs, Georgia. At age 10, he moved to New Orle-ans, Louisiana to attend a special learning and boarding school, the Marjorie Waters School. One of his favorite activities at the school was Cub Scouts. One year he was chosen to represent the Cub Scout pack at Mardi Gras,

Bob moved back to Sale City when he turned 18 and he lived with his parents until their health declined in recent years. Bob was such a big help to his parents, and he loved helping his dad on the farm with peanuts and corn. Bob loves farming and even today enjoys visiting farms of friends especially during peanut picking season!

Bob spends Christmas holidays in Atlanta visiting his sister, Lucy, her husband, Bob, his niece, Elizabeth, and nephew, Charlie. When he goes to Atlanta he loves to shop at the malls, eat lots of different food and visit rel-atives. During the last few years when Colquitt County was playing in the football state championship, he was able to attend and was so happy to see lots of his friends from Moultrie in Atlanta! Bob loves attending football games and yelling for the Packers. He also loves attend-ing Moultrie United Methodist Church and swimming at the YMCA. Bob is blessed to have many good friends in Moultrie, and he loves all of them.

Monthly PuzzlesPastor’s Corner

People often ask the question, “How long before Jesus returns?” In reply, statements are made to the effect of, “I wish He would come now; I don’t know how much more I can

endure.” Well, to be honest, I do not know when Jesus is coming back, but I do know that we can endure until his return. “How?” you may ask. I Corinthians 1:25 says, “Be-cause the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”

2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “And he said unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly there-fore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

My thoughts today are that, regardless of how long before Jesus returns, we have been given the Grace of God, favor, and em-powering presence of God to endure. Hold on, steadfast, until His return. When we put our trust in Christ Jesus during our weakness and infirmities, we can make it. Be encour-aged today.

1 John 4:4 says, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

God bless you all!Pastor Ricky McLaughlin
