Background

Founded in 1976, MDF Engineering started by manufacturing commercial vehicle components, trailers, bins and tanks for feed mills. We now occupy an 85000 sq ft factory in Antrim with circa 100 employees, state of the art Laser and Plasma cutting machines, Pressbrakes, Submerged Arc, Mig and Tig welding equipment and a team of highly skilled engineers and fabricators.

We have experience in supplying to the Transport, Mining, Power generation, Construction, Aerospace and Offshore oil industries.

MDF Engineering is part of the Retlan group, which includes SDC Trailers and has a turnover of over £100 million.

Located 500m from the M2 means we are in one of the most accessible areas of N. Ireland.

MDF Engineering Limited is committed to quality with full material and process traceability. Our corrective and preventive action procedures are fully documented and can be supplied to all customers on request. We have an ongoing supply chain development programme with vendors and suppliers.

About the company...

Design

Our design engineers are experienced in both 2D and 3D CAD packages, bringing your product to life before manufacture. Utilising Finite Element Analysis (FEA), we determine static and dynamic structural analysis on all components ensuring conformance to product requirements. We can work closely with you from the very start, taking an idea and developing it through design to full product manufacture.

Finishing

Using our state of the art paint line we can offer a “one stop” solution for all your product requirements. We can take your conceptual idea and turn it into a finished painted product. We will manage this element of the supply chain for you.

Purchasing Power

We purchase in excess of 12000 Tonne of Steel each year putting us in a strong position with our suppliers. At MDF we understand the volatile nature of manufacturing and due to our purchasing power, we can reduce lead times for ‘urgent ‘or last minute orders ensuring your parts can be manufactured and dispatched without delay.

Lean

There is a company wide ethos of incorporating lean values into everything we do. We continually strive to reduce production lead times, increase productivity and ensure zero quality defects.

We understand the importance of eliminating

waste and run a TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) programme on all machines to remove the risk of break downs ensuring continuity of supply to our customer base.

At MDF Engineering Ltd, we have an ongoing OEE programme with focus on our state of the art Laser and Press brakes. With close analysis on availability, performance and quality we are continually striving for world class performance.

Logistics

The company is positioned across a number of sites and a large distribution network in the UK and Ireland. We run our own transport fleet covering the whole of the UK and Ireland. We can offer our customers a fully integrated logistic solution and will manage the supply chain from product design to delivery at your designated site.
