Dreamland (Its All In Your Head)

IntroductionFor this project I am going to focus on what it is like to live with an illness like

    ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia.

This is a personal project for me as I have had ME (Myalgia Encephalitis) since

the age of 13 and since then my mother has became ill with Fibromyalgia which

is a very similar illness. Having M.E left me house bound for 2 years most ofthis time I was so unwell I would sleep 15-20 hours in the day (hence the

dreamland part of the title). Because of this I had to leave education 2 weeks

into year 10, this effected my confidence, friendships, socializing and left me

    feeling isolated.

These illness are still widely misunderstood and there is no cure. Because of thismost people that suffer from these illnesses hear the same thing from doctors

ConceptThrough the use of infrared photography, partnered with text below the

images, I want to produce a series of 5-10 images that represent what it is like

    to live with ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia.

I am using Infrared photography as I want the pictures to appear as if they are

from a dream, I believe that infrared photograph has this difference fromtraditional photograph to well represent this.

The only human presence I will be using in my photography will be in the

distance, to show seeing people but not being able to join in. Other than this I

will be focusing on no human presence to show isolation.

I will be taking pictures of the places I mainly went before I got ill, but like its in

a ghost town/dream state with maybe a few signs of life, for example a football

in a field without anyone there.

    What Is ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia

CFS is also known as ME, which stands for Myalgic encephalomyelitis. Myalgia

means muscle pain and encephalomyelitis means inflammation of the brain and

    spinal cord.

Fibromyalgia is more widely understood then ME/CFS and but has very similar

symptoms and is a very similar illness, most of the time all three are paired.

ME is a condition that can cause long-term illness and disability ranging from

being bedbound to having to take more than the average days out of

work/education. Many people improve over time, but almost always never get

    back to there original self.

It is estimated that around 250,000 people in the UK have ME/CFS.

There is no cure, so treatment aims to reduce the symptoms.

Conclusion So FarI only decided to change my idea 15thOctober as I was having trouble

connecting my concept and my images, as I think my first idea would have been

better portrayed in portraiture or documentary.

I think my tests shots are relevant as it got me used to shooting and editing

infrared photography but I now think I need to shoot at the locations thatconnect with my concept.
