Cold Weather Care @ North Metro Church Helping Home Project CWC has become very important to me because I attend one of the churches that support it. After being able to sit down with many of the guests, I began to realize what it truly must be like to be in this situation. As they shared with me their struggles I began to understand and realize how important it is for these people to have a place to stay and to call home, even if it is only a temporary home. I also love that CWC tries to make a lasting impact on these people's lives by helping them back to self-sufficiency. CWC is truly an organization that cares, and it wants to make a lasting impact, and it is here not to just provide a hand out, but to give people a hand up. This is why I want to make this great impact, but throughout the whole year because bad situations don't just happen in winter time. So I decided to make some adjustments on North Metro Church to adapt a housing facility for those in need throughout the whole year. But in order to be able to achive it, funds are needed, so I designed a kiosk to recieve donations and provide information for people to contribute for this cause. The church has a student lounge in which I adapted two rooms, a kitchenette, and a full bathroom in which CWC will be able to host at least three familes per stay. This facility is called "Helping Home" and will be able to give them privacy and a peaceful atmosphere for them to feel at home. Client Profile Cold Weather Care (CWC) is a non-profit organization that serves in Colorado. Its primary function is to give people that are facing home- lessness a warm place to stay during the winter months. CWC's mission is "Providing life-saving shelter and support to individuals and families in Adams County. However, CWC is not just a homeless shelter. [They] help [their] guests cope with their immediate housing crisis, work to con- nect them with housing, employment and education opportunities, as- sist them with identifying resources for medical and childcare needs, and teach them life skills that enable them to return to independent living and self-sufficiency." It works through a network of churches. The guests spend one week at each of four churches during the winter months. The volunteers from the churches prepare meals for the guests and spend time with them and show them the love that Jesus has for the world.
