MGMT is also another indie track I decided to have a look at however its more based on a concept video. The reason why I’ve decided to research this video this is because it some of these ideas may be relevant to my music video. On the other hand only the concept based of this video is important.

Visuals and Lyrics In the first verse of this track “I’m feeling rough I’m feeling raw I’m in the prime of my life” this quote highlights us that these artists have made unacceptable decisions in their past lives when they were young. This track talks about how not listening to parents put them in a better position in life where they can go and have fun and do what they want to and finding the easier way to life. “This is our decision to live fast and die young” this quote amplifies to audiences that they can either choose to live how they want to and die early or start listening to the people who care about them and start living the real life.

Visuals and Images They’re located in the beach which signifies to the audience that’s where they could communicate to each other about their emotions and regrets in the past. The beach also signifies to audiences peace where they could start again without muddling up with their lives.When he throws away the flame to the seaside this signifies to audiences that he’s letting all the anger and emotions go.

The instrumental of this track begins to get louder which amplifies to audiences their shame and regrets from their mistakes in their past.

Selling the artist The use of costume in this video shows audiences that they’re state of freedom by releasing and leaving the past and moving on with their lives. The use fire to burn their past and regrets for e.g. drugs etc.Birds-eye-view camera shot was also included in this music video which signifies to the audience the artist authority and power which puts him in a god like place which makes audiences look weak.Close-up shot was included in this music video to show his facial expression which highlights his sadness and depression.

IntertextualityThe Intertextuality of this music video is that it relates to The XX –Crystallized this is because both of these tracks talk about mistakes they did in their previous lives. On the other The XX crystallized is more of a performance video which means they’re illustrating their emotions and reactions to their regrets. Whereas MGMT- time to pretend is a concept video which amplifies their emotions by amplifying examples of their imaginations for e.g. kittens banging drums etc. They both have the same situations.

Voyeurism The main character of this music video looks at the camera to audiences and holding the baby which signifies to the audience he has matured and grown out of the immature mistakes he did his past life.
