Al-Masjid Al-Haram is located in the cityof Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is the

largest mosque in the world andsurrounds one of Islam's holiest places,the Kaaba. According to Islamictradition the very first construction of

the Kaaba, the heart of Al-Masjid Al-Haram, was undertaken by Abraham in2130BCE.

Hajar-Al-Aswad, the Black Stone situated onthe lower side of the eastern corner of theKaaba , is believed to be the only remnant ofthe original structure made by Abraham.

Muslim belief also places the story of Ishmael's

mother searching for water in the generalvicinity of the mosque. In the story, Hjar runsbetween the hills of Safa and Marwah lookingfor water for her infant son until God eventuallyreveals her the Zamzam. The "Zamzam well"and "Safa and Marwah" are structures in Al-Masjid al-Haram

This mosque was built by theProphet Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihiwa sallam) situated in the cityof Medina. It is the second holiestsite in in Islam.It is now one of the largestmosques in the world. The originalmosque was built by Muhammad andhis companions next to the house wherehe settled after his journey to Medina in622 CE.

final resting place of Muhammad andearly Muslim leaders Abu Bakr and Umar.

The Shrine of Hussein ibn Ali (one of theoldest mosques in the world and a holysite of muslims in the city of Karbala, Iraq.
