MICROBIAL REVERSE ELECTRODIALYSIS
CELL
PRESENTED BY:
WHAT IS IT…???
Produces electricity from waste water.
CONCEPT PROPOSED BY: BRUSE LOGAN (an environmental engineer)
HOW IT WORKS ????
Microbial fuel cells. Uses bacteria. Converts plants and human waste
into electrons.
MICROBIAL ELECTROLYSIS CELL:
It is a bio-electrochemical system that drives a current by mimicking bacterial interactions found in nature.
CONCEPT:
Utilization of potential difference between waste water and fresh water.
PRINCIPLE:
Added ammonium bicarbonate and carbon di-oxide to waste water.
Passed through membranes of MFC.
Separated anions and cations.
REMOVAL OF CHEMICALS FROM WASTE WATER:
By boiling.
Filtration.
ADVANTAGES:
Water purification needs energy.
This method produces electricity on purification of water.
At the rate of 0.98 kwh from 1 kg wastage.
DISADVANTAGES:
Costlier membranes.
