• Microsoft Research (MSR) was founded in 1991 to conduct both basic and applied research in the areas of computer science and software engineering

• Six labs all over the world; European MSR center is in Cambridge, UK

• MSR collaborates with universities worldwide through its External Research Program

Global programs and initiatives

Microsoft Fuels Higher Education with $50 Million Investment

At the Education Leaders Forum, organized by UNESCO and Microsoft, the software giant explainedthat the $50 million would serve to support the Higher Education ICT Task Force, with the investment focusing on resources, training and certifications via the Microsoft Education Alliance Program agreement.

Microsoft To Expand Partners in Learning

Microsoft is making another five-year re-commitment of US$235.5 million to touch the lives of innovative students, teachers and education policymakers. It will bring Microsoft’s total ten-year investment in PiL Program to nearly US$500 million, and is estimated to enable the program to reach three times as many students and teachers around the world by 2013.

• MSDN AA is an annual membership program for departments that use technology in support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) or VIDA (Visual, Illustration, Design and Art) courses

• MSDN AA is designed to provide the easiest and most inexpensive way for universities to make the latest Microsoft software available in labs, classrooms, and on student PCs

• All latest Microsoft developer tools, platforms and servers are included into MSDN AA
