Midea Brings Competition to the Polish Rally

Championships

A sports car is rapidly making its way through the racetrack, leading a billowing cloud of dust. The blue Midea

logo stands out sharply on the head and body of the powerful machine as it suddenly swings through a tight corner, and pow-

ers through the next stretch of road ahead of it. This is one scene

from the Polish Rally Championships in early June.

Felix, one of the sponsors of this championship, has been

specializing in the distribution, installation and servicing of

HVAC goods since 1996, and has now become the leader in the

HVAC industry in

north-east Poland.

As Midea‘s distribu-

tor for air-

conditioning goods,

Felix chose the bril-

liant blue Midea logo for its car, along with providing promotional material about

Midea in the spectator area, so that the thousands of racing fans there would have

an opportunity to better know Midea.

Felix owns their racing team—the Felix2 Group—because of their love for car

racing. It‘s worth mentioning that Paweł Danilczuk, an employee of Felix and the

driver of their car, is only an amateur driver; it is his love for car racing that al-

lowed him to achieve 10th place in the general classification in the Polish Rally

Championships, which is a great accomplishment for a non-professional driver.

After the

champion-

ship, showing his appreciation for his fans and spon-

sors, Paweł said, ―We are thanking and bowing low to

all our fans that you are riding with us all over Poland.

You are giving us great power and we promise that we

will never give up without a fight! We want to say thank

you to our sponsors, Midea and SPS Klima, that you

are with us, supporting us, and believing in us!‖

2012 Midea CAC Conference of East

European Strategic Partners

NEWSLINE

M ay 29th was the day of

Midea‘s 2012 CAC Conference of East

European Strategic Partners in Antalya,

Turkey, where 80 strategic partners

from Midea CAC‘s network of distribu-

tors joined in this grand event. The

theme of this conference was ―growing

together‖, which Midea CAC has been

dedicating itself to, sharing technology

and marketing information with all of

its valued partners.

Midea CAC continues to grow

stronger in global

markets thanks to its

competitive products

and clear market

strategies for differ-

ent regions. It is also

the only Chinese

company that can

provide complete

HVAC solutions,

including big chiller

systems, VRF sys-

tems, among other

heating and ventilation

systems.

During this con-

ference, Midea CAC

launched the V4 PLUS

Super series VRF sys-

tem, and the fourth-

generation IMM

(Intelligent Manager of

Midea) control system.

The V4 PLUS Super

system adopts full-DC inverter tech-

nology for all compressors and fan motors. The IPLV of this product is

rated up to 5.8, which makes it the

most energy efficient product in the

VRF industry. Midea‘s IMM system is

based around a centralized format, and

dedicated to the complete control and

monitoring of all the system‘s func-

tions. It can be used as a flexible multi-

purpose system, applied to a variety of

needs, according to the scale, purpose,

and control method of each building.

Ultimately, this conference suc-

cessfully provided a common platform

for Midea distributors throughout the

eastern European market to understand

Midea CAC better, to strengthen and

deepen the relationship between Midea

and its distributors.

Mother s Day Campaign in Brazil – Results

and Future Prospects

M other s Day is one of the

most important dates of the year for

retailers and home appliance brands in

Brazil. According to industry infor-

mation, this celebration is the second-

most important occasion on the retail

calendar, boosting sales in several

markets, such as microwaves ovens, a

segment which Midea expanded its

portfolio to in late 2010.

To strengthen

Midea‘s position in the

microwave market, the

marketing team of Midea-

Carrier ABC JV (the re-

cently formed joint venture

in Latin America between

Midea and Carrier) devel-

oped a campaign for point

of sale and electronic me-

dia to gain market share while improv-

ing brand awareness.

―This year we have a very con-

sistent plan based on the simple but

strong concept of ‗Branding & Sell-

ing‘. This means that we are promot-

ing sales intensively, while at the same

time working on developing a long-

lasting relationship to win over con-

sumers‘ minds and hearts,‖ said Benja-

min Peña Isla, Marketing Manager.

During the dates of the promo-

tion, which consisted on an exclusive

handbag giveaway, several points of

sales from nine of the most important

retailers participated with the promo-

tional materials in 12 of Brazil‘s states.

The promotion was implemented

through the nationwide trade market-

ing and promotion operation that has

been developing in Brazil as a key ele-

ment of marketing initiatives.

During the dates preceding

Mother s Day, the promoters

negotiated high visibility

spots with assurances of

plentiful product stock at the

stores.

As a result of the promotion,

Midea microwaves achieved

the second-highest rating in

sell-outs in campaign stores,

achieving almost 30% market share –

greatly outperforming last year‘s mar-

ket share in this category.

―It is really exciting to see how

positive the reaction of consumers and

retailers were, and even though this

was a small step towards the challeng-

es we have, it is encouraging to see

that we have a great opportunity to

continue improving our position in the

market,‖ said Benjamin.

The Most Respected Enterprises in China

E stablished in 2011, the China’s Most Respected En-

terprises selection is one of the most respected authorities for

recognizing outstanding enter-

prises in China. This year‘s selec-

tion was graded based on three

dimensions: accomplishment in

innovation, display of social re-

sponsibility, and steady enter-

prise growth.

In the afternoon of May

30th, the selection was hosted in

the Peking University Hall. 63

enterprises successfully pro-

gressed onto the final candidate

list after preliminary evaluation of 557 nominees. After go-

ing through the process of final assessment and evaluation,

30 enterprises including Midea, Alibaba, Baidu, Tecent,

Lenovo, IMB China, P&G China, Shanghai General Motor,

Sina, and others won the 2011-2012 China’s Most Respected

Enterprise award.

2012 will still be a challenging year for many Chinese

firms, to continue building and improving their corporate

social responsibility efforts, while striving to completely

eliminate mistakes that are commonly reported in China,

such as the numerous food

safety problems, the credit cri-

sis, blatant intellectual property

infringement, etc. The intention

for this award is to set the

benchmarks for companies and

to promote ideal corporate val-

ues, to ultimately reach a con-

sensus between the public and

corporations regarding proper

commercial culture and sustain-

ability.

Huang Xiaoming, Vice president of Midea Group,

attended the award-giving ceremony and commented that

―to measure the value of an enterprise is not just simply by

looking at the scale of a company and its good-looking eco-

nomic indicators, but also the sustainable and healthy

growth of that enterprise, and its responsibility for society.

Only when an enterprise takes an initial role in changing,

being innovative, growing healthily and steadily can that

enterprise earn recognition and respect from society.

The 3rd Annual Midea Industrial Design

Contest Is Heating Up

T he annual Midea Industrial Design Contest, held by Midea Group, is opened specifically to college students for in-

spired and innovative ideas for future appliances. So far, contest officials have steadily been collecting design submissions

from more than 300 design colleges across the greater China area, Japan,

South Korea and other Asian countries. The main entries can be categorized

into: 1. air conditioners, refrigeration and washing machines, 2. small house-

hold appliances, and 3. future household products. The deadline for submis-

sions is September 1st, 2012, followed soon after with the final competition

and awards ceremony in mid-November.

On June 11th, the Midea Design Committee conducted an information

session for the contest at the Guangdong University of Technology, which is

one of the top design colleges in Guangdong. By holding an information

session at the university, it enhances students‘ understanding of the competi-

tion, strengthens the communication between Midea and students, and lays

the foundation for future cooperation between Midea and universities.

Refrigeration Experts (cont.)

Approximately 400 professionals from Porto Alegre, Recife, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and São Paulo had first-hand

access to the joint venture’s offerings

L ast month, refrigeration architects and designers

from six Brazilian cities followed the Midea Carrier road-

show, a circuit of workshops promoted by Midea Carrier

JV in Brazil (referred to as Midea Carrier hereinafter) to

present the releases of its various product lines in 2012.

The event covered the cities of Porto Alegre, Recife, Bra-

sília, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and São Paulo, and

was attended by over 400 professionals from the entire

heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, acclimatization and

refrigeration (AVACR) industry (São Paulo, April 24,

2012).

A benchmark in the national refrigeration market, the

roadshow was praised by CEO of Termoplan, Carlos

Kayan, on the initiative of the event, stating that the meet-

ing promoted continuous evolution of practices in the

refrigeration market.

―Midea Carrier is following trends to position itself at

the level of excellence required for experts in the field.

What we see here is an updating of what is demanded in

the sector in relation to filtration and energy efficiency,

meeting standards that establish the criteria for suitable

installations. Therefore, the company‘s initiative in uniting

these solutions is noteworthy."

Product Engineering Coordinator at Midea Carrier,

and the head of Carrier‘s AquaForce project, Vanderli

Roberto Sega, showed in detail the advantages of what is

the first high-efficiency screw chiller produced in Brazil.

―The AquaForce project promotes energy reduction

with low operational cost. The condenser has a modular

design, high-efficiency exchangers and the Flying Bird fan,

which promotes noise reduction. The chiller has simpler

maintenance and features an efficiency of 11% higher than

average,‖ explains Vanderli, highlighting the increased

savings of the 30XA line in terms of energy. ―The Carrier

chiller with water condensation has an annual cost of

286,000 reais, while other condensers in the market con-

sume 361,000 per annum."

At the opening of the event, GM of Midea-Carrier

distribution , Toshio Murakami, stressed the positive review

of the brand from data obtained by the multinational over

the last 12 years. ―The Midea Carrier joint venture today has

the biggest air-conditioning sales manufacturing complex in

Brazil. By 2012, we reached the mark of 0.86 billion dollars

sales.‖

During the closing of the roadshow, Henrique Marcar-

enhas, Marketing Director at Midea Carrier, thanked the

public for its participation in all sales venues, and reinforced

the roadshow's contribution. ―The partnership between

Midea CAC Receives Honor for

Achievements in Energy Efficiency

L ate last May, the 2012 Energy Conservation Pro-

motion conference was held at the Beijing International Con-

vention Center. Many enterprises were honored for their

prominent work in energy conservation and environmental

friendliness. Midea‘s Central Air Conditioner Division was

the only company in the HVAC industry selected as one of

the ten enterprises to be given the Ten Energy Conservative En-

terprises in China award for its great

contribution to energy saving pro-

grams.

―Midea central air condition-

ing has been focused, working on

energy saving technology from the

beginning. Through importing ad-

vanced technologies, and innovat-

ing based on those, Midea betters

its technologies and products to

meet market demand and con-

sumption,‖ said general manager of

central AC division, Tian Mingli,

who also told the reporters that,

―In the future, Midea central air

conditioners will continue working

on technology innovation to pro-

vide a better life for human beings,

and playing the leading role in cre-

ating an energy-saving and low car-

bon era‖.

In China‘s Twelfth Five-Year

plan, the goal for energy conserva-

tion is that the unit GDP energy

consumption can be reduced by 16% and main pollution

reduced by 8-10%. According to statistics, building energy

consumption accounts for as much as 25% of total national

energy consumption, and within this amount, air condition-

ing energy consumption accounts for up to 65%. Due to

this high percentage, the need for improved central air

conditioning energy savings is quite real.

As the leader in the domestic air conditioning in-

dustry, Midea Central Air Conditioner has invested more

than 100 million RMB in R&D, founding the most ad-

vanced research team in the industry, provided with the

most advanced equipment, to

produce the most advanced

products in energy efficiency.

So far, Midea owns more than

300 patents in technology, mak-

ing it a clear leader in this tech-

nology.

Many products from Midea

Central Air Conditioning fill the

government energy saving prod-

uct procurement list thanks to

their energy efficient features.

From 2009 to 2011, Midea has

sold more than 2 million sets of

energy saving central air condi-

tioners and heat pump water

heaters, which have saved up to

26 billion kWh every year. Put

in another way, this should sav-

ing up to 100,000 tons of coal,

reducing 260,000 tons of car-

bon dioxide emissions, and 850

tons of sulfur dioxide emissions,

all of which definitely help pro-

mote a low-carbon economy and help to protect the

ecological environment.

Midea’s Debut at Argentina’s Retail 100

E arly this past May, the new Midea-Carrier joint venture presented the Midea name and brand to attendees at the

largest annual meeting of Argentinian retailers and suppliers, the aptly named Retail 100, in the beautiful Iguazu City in the

north of Argentina.

This year‘s meeting was the 8th anniversary of Retail 100‘s inception, and was attended by more than 280 participants in

total, with 135 buyers and 145 suppliers. The event is an opportunity for buyers and suppliers alike from all over the country

to network, showcase product lines, discuss company news, and explain business proposals. Suppliers organized kiosks to

meet with retailers individually during the three day event.

Apart from the individual supplier exhibitions, Midea-Carrier arranged for an entire auditorium in which to present the

biggest news of the show, although it was hardly a secret by now: that Carrier and Midea had formed the Midea-Carrier joint

venture in South America, which came into effect last November, in 2011, and the response from attendees to this news was

overwhelmingly positive. Suppliers and buyers alike were impressed by Midea‘s immense size and long-sustained high growth

rate, and above all, the potential offered by the joint venture, in terms of the widened product portfolio and scale of produc-

tion in the Southern Cone.

MIDEA IN THE COMMUNITY

Corporate Care for Children

A s members of their community, corporations carry

a responsibility to provide support to their community, par-

ticularly for those less fortunate. Midea takes this obligation

seriously, and has contributed for years now, organizing dif-

ferent charity events and participating in a variety of volun-

teer activities, and those efforts which promote the healthy

development of children have always held a special priority

for Midea. During the last couple of years, Midea has orga-

nized programs to support children in Hebei, with the most

recent of these programs taking place early last month, on

May 11th. One of Midea‘s representatives at the event, Wang

Liangen, regional sales manager for Midea Air-conditioning

and Refrigeration in Hengshui, donated money to the chil-

dren there and books to the local Midea Library, which was

established to promote childhood learning. Midea‘s belief is

that a company should be valued not only for its contribu-
