First, I would say thank you to God I pray toward the presence of God Almighty because with His grace I can finish a book about the English For Business can be done with good despite many flaws in it. And I also thank you for Mrs. Novalina Sembiring who has given instructions to do this task.
This book is written to make easier students who wants to learn English Language for Midwifery, so they can add their knowledge and apply their english which is used in midwifery.
We hope that this book will be useful in order to broaden as well as our knowledge of the English language in midwifery. We are also fully aware that in this book there is a shortage and far from perfect. Therefore, we hope the criticisms and suggestions and proposals for improvement books for the readers to make this book become more perfect.
Hopefully this book can be useful for us and the people who read it. Previously I apologize if there are mistakes of words that are less pleasing, and we invoke criticism and suggestions for improvement this book in the future.

The learning materials incorporated in this book are written to introduce you to theEnglish for Midwifery. English for midwifery is important for this era because nowadays there are many terms in midwifery which always used as international language in midwifery. With this book, we hopefully that we can apply their english language, especially for midwifery who wants to master english language. We prepare this subject with the questions and discussion to add knowledge about english for midwifery.1. What is Midwifery?The simplest definition of midwifery is with woman, but truly, midwifery means different things to different people. For many others, the midwifery model is am attitude about women and how pregnancy and birth occur, and view that pregnancy and birth are normal events until proven otherwise. It is an attitude of giving and sharing information, of empowerment, and of respecting the right of a woman and her family to determine their own care.
Historically, midwives have always been around to help women give birth. Before physicians, midwives were the primary healers in their communities. They were the medicine women of their own cultures and assisted families and women throughout their lives. Today, midwives take care of anyone who wishes to see them, but practice within the constraints of their medical and legal systems.
The World Health Organization (WHO) presents us with the following definition of the midwife.
A midwife is a person who having been regularly admitted to a midwifery educational programs, duly recognized in the country in which it is located, has successfully completed the prescribed course of studies in midwifery and has acquired the requisite qualifications to be registered and/or legally licensed to practice midwifery.
2. What Do Midwives Do?
The midwives must able to give the necessary supervision, care, and advice to women during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period to conduct deliveries on her own responsibility and to care for the newborn and the infant. This care includes preventative measures, the detection of abnormal conditions in mother and child, the procurement of medical assistance and the execution of emergency measures in the absence of medical help.

The Midwife
What is a midwife? A midwife is a person who has accomplished a regular midwifery program. She has certain qualifications required in midwifery, and legally has a license to practice midwifery. She may practice in hospitals, clinics, health units, domiciliary conditions or in any other service. She is able to work as an independent practitioner, or to function in a multi-professional team. The midwife gives the supervision, care and advice to women. Her duty is not only to help women give birth to babies, but it also extends to the period of pregnancy. They are to diagnose pregnancy, to undertake examinations of the woman and her baby, to assess their condition to detect if there is an abnormality in mother or child, to plan care, to implement the care plan. She has to care both the mother and the newborn and the infant. The responsibility of a midwife continues as she evaluates the effectiveness of the plan and its implementation.
The midwife may act as an independent practitioner in her own right as long as the events remain within the range of normality. But when there is an abnormality, and there is an absence of medical help, or while calling upon medical assistance, she has responsibility to undertake an emergency measures, to treat mother or baby. She has to continue to give the care while the help is on the way.
Some of her tasks may overlap with those of nurse, while others are similar to those of the obstetrician and pediatrician. Her task includes health counseling, education. She has responsibility to educate not only the woman, but also within the family and the community. The area of education involves antenatal education, preparation of parenthood, extends to certain area of gynecology, family planning and child care.
A midwife must be competent to carry out a wide range of skills, such as promotion of health, assessment of physical and mental condition of a woman, managing care, undertaking care prescribed by a doctor, and effective communication with clients.

Midwife Jane on the Wards
Do you remember Jane Johnson? She and her friend, Joan Bell are both midwifes. They work at Saint Peters Hospital, a large teaching hospital in London. Joan did her training at St. Peters and last year she passed her State Finals and qualified. She is working as a staff midwife in a womens medical ward.
Jane is a student midwife and is still training. Last month, she worked in one of the hospitals surgical wards. She learned to set trolleys for sterile procedures such as surgical dressing, intravenous infusion and catheterization. She carried out certain procedures herself and assisted doctors with others. She often had to go to the central sterile supply department to fetch sterile dressing packs. Sometimes, she took patients to the X-Ray department or to the occupational therapy unit.This month, Jane is working in the same ward as Joan. She is learning to Midwife patients suffering from diseases such as cardiac infarction, cerebral haemorrhage, cerebral thrombosis and pneumonia. At the moment, she is helping a staff midwife to give injections. The staff midwife is explaining to her doses, action and side effects of the drugs they are administering.
The other midwifes in the ward are carrying out various nursing duties. Some are doing bed-baths and another is helping a patient to get out of bed.

Midwife Jane and Her Accident
Jane was going to school this morning, a car knocked her down. Her right leg was broken just below the knee. Some people who saw the accident laid her in comfortable position on the pavement and phoned for an ambulance. The driver of the car that knocked Jane covered her with a coat and tried to comfort her. When the ambulance arrived, Jane was lifted onto a stretcher. When she arrived in hospital, the midwife was admitted her gave an injection of morphine to combat her shock and pain.
