Hayden resident Jose Vasquez approaches the council following the 3-2 vote not to appoint him to the vacant Hayden Town Council seat. Vasquez stated, “I know I am not well liked, but I stand up for my rights and the rights of others.” He thanked the council for not “giving him his constitutional rights.” Mayor Bobby Smith made a motion not accept Vasquez application due to the fact that he had run several times and not won a seat. “We are here to serve the wishes of the public,” he said. His motion was seconded by Councilmember Lopez. The motion passed 3-2 with Councilmembers Ruiz and Garcia voting against. Vice Mayor Munoz voted not to accept his application for the vacancy.

To apply for free or reduced-price meals, households can fill out the application and return it to the school unless the household has already received notification that their children are approved for free meals this year. Applications also are available at the LEONOR HAMBLY K-8 OFFICE, HAYDEN HIGH SCHOOL AND THE DISTRICT OFFICE. Only one application is required for all children in the household and the information provided on the application will be used for the purpose of determining eligibility and verification of data. An application for free or reduced price benefits cannot be approved unless it contains complete eligibility information as indicated on the application and instructions, including the last four digits of the primary wage earner’s social security number and a signature of an adult household member.

Families can apply for benefits at any time. If a household member becomes unemployed or if the household size increases, the household should contact the school. West Flagstaff pulled out the heavy lumber Monday night to defeat the Kearny Majors All-Stars in an elimination game at the 2015 Arizona State Baseball Tournament in Claypool. West Flagstaff, the District 1 champion, defeated District 14 champ Kearny, 15 – 1. West Flagstaff cranked a number of home runs in the lopsided victory, taking a 6 – 1 lead at the end of the third. They scored nine runs in the fourth to account for the final score. Kearny lost 6 – 4 against Arrowhead in its first-round game, which set up the elimination matchup with West Flagstaff on Monday night. Despite the loss, Kearny made it an enjoyable summer for the coaches, fans, and community, finishing the season as District 14 champions in addition to their appearance in the state tournament. Thank you Kearny Majors Baseball All-Stars for a great season!
