Contract wins

AIR 4.9.4 awards to the Sabre / MIL teamCongratulations and thank you to everyone who contributed to Sabre’s winning proposal to provide NAVAIR’s Software Engineering and Acquisition Management Division (4.9.4) with software systems engineering, development, testing, acquisition, and integration; avionics/software/air vehicle technology insertion; configuration management; and program performance assessment analysis and planning support services for U.S. domestic military programs and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs. It was truly a team effort and would not have been possible without the level of participation experienced during the entire proposal development process. With so many individuals devoting their time and talent, the team’s proposal was sure to be well received. In fact, our winning proposal received an overall technical rating of “Outstanding!”

MIL is now looking forward to transitioning the contract and getting to work as part of the winning Sabre Team!

Thank you for assisting us achieve our goal!

NAVSUP awards to the SAIC / MIL TeamMIL was also a member of the winning SAIC team that was recently awarded a contract with the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) to provide critical data management, solution engineering, and lifecycle management services for DoD’s ERP, enterprise, and legacy systems. The Process Improvement, Reengineering, Management and Data Support Services 2 (PIRMDS2) contract award will help MIL to continue build upon our partnerships with both SAIC and the Department of the Navy. Congratulations and thanks to all MIL staff that participated in this winning effort!

The BOA between MIL and NAVAIR CWD establishs a vehicle for MIL to provide NAVAIR with the cybersecurity services needed to research, develop, mature, procure, integrate, train, support, and sustain cyber resilient and full spectrum cyber warfighting capabilities. These services could be engaged to rapidly sustain and protect Navy platforms, weapons, sensors, communications and networks, computing systems, mission systems, support equipment, logistics and maintenance systems, and ashore and afloat enterprise systems.

Congratulations to the members of MIL’s Cybersecurity team for preparing a compelling and winning proposal!

FED100 Award: Recognizing achievements in federal ITOn April 27, 2016, MIL staff members David St. John, Vin Seibert, and Carter Raines attended the FED100 Gala and awards ceremony to honor one of their Department of Commerce customers, Joe Paiva, Chief Information Officer for the International Trade Administration. The Federal 100 Awards recognize leaders in government, industry, and academia that make significant contributions to improve how the federal government uses information technology in government operations.

Select USAUnder the leadership of John Harlow, MIL’s Saleforce team achieved a huge milestone on May 26th as it launched MIL’s first web solution on Salesforce, selectusa.gov. The MIL solution had already garnered a great deal of attention in its Beta form from SalesForce, which culminated in the invitation to MIL’s customer, the International Trade Administration, to set up a kiosk at the last Salesforce conference. Credit also goes out to the rest of the team that pulled together to deploy pieces of the export.gov 2.0/Bluebox vision.

MIL support integral to Commerce Department success at the 2016 Hannover Messe

By Autumn BanksHannover Messe, the largest industrial trade fair in the world attracting 6,500 exhibitors and over 200,000 visitors from approximately 70 countries, served as a stage for MIL staff at the International Trade Administration to shine. The fair took place on April 25-29th in Hannover, Germany with an opening ceremony featuring President Obama on April 24. For the first time in the show’s history, the United States served as the official “Partner Country.”

From flights to Germany to lead projects, and late hours back at headquarters in Washington, MIL staffers helped the Department of Commerce execute a world class event. The team provided the innovative designs for marketing materials, banners, country

partner branding, and project management leadership, which included effective recruitment of more than 90 state and local economic development organizations. The MIL team also led the development and coordination of high-level discussions that Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker held as part of SelectUSA Stakeholder Roundtable of business leaders and economic development organizations.

The 2016 Hannover Messe showcased the ingenuity and innovation of American products and services, demonstrating on the international stage that the United States is still the world’s most competitive investment destination.

Checking in with the NRC Momentum Working GroupBy Abby OlarteA wise man once said, “Know what your customers want most and what your company does best.” One of MIL’s strengths as an organization is our focus on providing unparalleled customer service to our clients. MIL’s support of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Momentum Financials Reports Working Group (RWG) represents this philosophy to the fullest. MIL is currently tasked with leading the RWG, the group responsible for managing, tracking, and completing all Momentum reporting requests for the NRC’s Business Objects user base. In addition to reports development, MIL provides service desk support for the RWG and addresses a number of inquiries ranging from the proper report to use based on the desired data elements to specific questions about Business Objects’ front-end functionality.

Over the last three years, MIL has successfully completed and deployed over 100 report change requests to NRC’s Business Objects Production environment. Through the quality of our work and the time we have devoted to our customers, we have built a reputation as knowledgeable subject matter experts when it comes to extracting information from Momentum. The NRC’s reporting suite has improved dramatically as a result of our ability to create intuitive and informative tools ranging from high-level dashboards to detailed-level transaction reports. NRC staff is spending less time hunting for information in Momentum since they are equipped with a robust collection of reports to help them do their jobs. It goes to show that taking pride in the work you do goes a long way not only in the success of MIL, but also in the success of your client.

MIL Hosts ITEA Cyber Brown BagMIL hosted its first ever International Test and Evaluation Association (ITEA) Cyber Brown Bag luncheon on June 22nd in our Lexington Park offices. ITEA is a not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to advancing the exchange of technical, programmatic, and acquisition information among the test and evaluation (T&E) community. MIL’s speaker for this inaugural event was Mr. Brian Hastings, current head of the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Cyber Test & Evaluation (T&E) Branch, which was formed in August 2015. Mr. Hastings offered his unique perspectives on T&E of cybersecurity as it applies to NAVAIR’s many weapons and control systems. Mr. Hastings discussion was very thoughtful and insightful, provoking numerous discussions among the 25+ attendees.

Before heading up NAVAIR’s cyber efforts, Mr. Hastings previously served as the Electronic Warfare Branch Chief for NAVAIR and as a member of the EA-18G (U.S. Navy Growler aircraft) and EA-6B (U.S. Navy Prowler aircraft) test teams. His military experience includes two tours flying the EA-6B aircraft and tours that included the Naval Space Command, Naval Network Warfare Command, and the Navy Information Operations Commands in Maryland and Norfolk. Mr. Hastings is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School.

MIL demos IT solutions at Salesforce World TourMIL recently demonstrated the fruits of our partnership with Salesforce, a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) services organization. With the advancement of its CRM capabilities, MIL’s Salesforce team successfully demonstrated their CMS and Knowledge Management apps at Salesforce World Tour in Washington, D.C. on April 28, 2016.

Amongst a crowd of innovative information technology professionals, MIL showcased our CMS and Knowledge Management Force.com applications. The team’s approach helps users digitally serve their clients with a single CRM platform, which eliminates silos between service, sales, billing, and webmasters. Additionally, MIL utilizes Salesforce to drive enterprise web presence management; knowledge management; aggregated search; enterprise customer registration and profile

management; strategic consulting; CRM web integration; and system audit and training.

“My favorite part of demoing was seeing Salesforce employees and competitor’s eyes light up when they experienced how we leveraged the platform,” said MIL Salesforce Practice Lead John Harlow. “Individual components have been done before, but this group had never seen a company package everything together in a single enterprise application. It made for a very fun day.”

Since our alliance with Salesforce in Sept. 2015, MIL has seen a boost in our IT projects via a triple-effect in our Salesforce customer base and through doubling the amount of consultants on Salesforce based projects.

“Our partnership with Salesforce has been an invaluable tool for our business practices as well as the professional development of our employees,” said MIL Chief Operating Officer Marisa Daley. “Since our alliance, we have cultivated excellent outcomes with our customers at International Trade Administration, Securing America’s Future Energy, and BOMI International.“

employee stories

American Society of Military Comptrollers 2016 PDIMIL VPs Lloyd Farmer and John Hinkson recently represented the company at the American Society of Military Comptrollers’ (ASMC) National 2016 Professional Development Institute (PDI) on June 1-3 in Orlando, FL. The ASMC PDI is the premier training event for DOD, Coast Guard, and public and private sector financial and resource directors. Once a year, financial professionals from around the nation gather for the 3-day training event that features workshops, speeches, and mini-courses in 50+ financial management, audit, acquisition, and workforce management and other special activities.

C4IS Employee Volunteering to Help Others in NeedBy Jim McFadden

Recently, one of MIL’s C4IS members, Mark Bush, participated in Salute to Life, the C.W. Bill Young Department of Defense (DoD) Marrow Donor Program. Data shows that each year, more than 12,000 people are diagnosed with a disease that requires a bone marrow infusion and more than 70 percent are unable to find a match from family members so they require the services of an unrelated donor.

Having formerly served in the U.S. Navy, Mark volunteered for Salute to Life in the hopes of helping another military family member or anyone in need of a bone marrow transplant. As a participant in the DoD program, donors are added to the national marrow donor registry, which is a national database of potential donors. The registration process began by submitting a cheek swab that was analyzed to determine Mark’s specific human leukocyte antigen (HLA) type. His HLA type was then entered into the national registry to identify potential matching candidates. Once registration was completed, Mark began the waiting game hoping that a matching candidate was found. Unfortunately, only 1 out of every 540 members that join the registry ever gets selected to donate marrow.

However, Mark was one of the fortunate volunteers that quickly found a matching candidate. Once selected as a potential donor, he went through a rigorous physical examination to receive medical clearance. Mark provided a peripheral blood stem cell donation. For five days before donation, he was given injections of a drug called Filgrastim, which causes the body to release marrow or stem cells from the bones into the blood. On the fifth day, Mark underwent an apheresis blood filtering process, which took approximately five hours to collect the blood stem cells that had been generated. Mark’s cells were hand-couriered immediately to the recipient patient so that they could be infused within 24 hours.

On behalf of MIL, we would like to thank Mark for his community service and volunteering for the Salute to Life program and congratulate him on his recent donation to help someone in need.

MIL executives going the distanceRetired long-distance champion Haile Gebrselassie once said “When you run the marathon, you run against the distance, not against the other runners and not against the time.”

MIL CFO Bill Loomis recently ran the Boston Marathon and triumphed for the eighth year in a row—well on his way to meeting his personal 10-years-in-a-row goal! Bill ran the Boston Marathon this year on April 18, 2016, on the 120th anniversary of the legendary endurance race. Holding the distinction of being the oldest annual marathon in the world, the Boston Marathon is held every year on Patriots’ Day, which falls on the third Monday in April. Bill recently was elected “Grandmaster Runner of the Year” by Montgomery County Road Runners. In the past 12 months, he earned first place in his age division in 5K, 10K, 10M, half marathon, and marathon races. Bill is one of the RRCA-certified coaches for XMP (Experienced Marathon Program).

Also lacing on running shoes (and a swim suit and cycling helmet!), MIL’s Executive VP and COO Marisa Daley competed for glory and bragging rights at the 10th Annual Reston Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, June 5, 2016. Marisa successfully defended her first place ranking in her age group with a personal record of 1:14:02 at the 3-event competition that covers 15 grueling miles. Participants begin the race with a 400 meter swim in a 50-meter pool, then bike 11.28 miles on a hilly course through Reston, and end with a 3.2 mile foot race along residential pathways. The competition is held annually the Sunday after Memorial Day weekend and benefits Cornerstones, a local non-profit organization that provides support and advocacy for those in the community who are in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other vital human services.

Congrats to both Bill and Marisa for finishing strong!

Showing DC youth the “Suite Life”As noted in our last Newsletter, MIL has access to a corporate suite at the Verizon Center arena in Washington, DC. As part of this program, MIL staffers and their families have a chance to win tickets to world class sporting events, concerts, family shows, and other special events through a corporate lottery.

This summer, MIL is sponsoring four DC youth outreach programs by donating the suite so deserving members of the DC community can attend a Washington Mystics game. Boys and girls will be selected from Mentors, Inc. (http://www.mentorsinc.org/), Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington DC (http://www.bgcgw.org/), Metro Ball Youth Outreach (http://www.metroball.org/), and the Year Up Program (http://www.yearup.org/) to see the Mystics play ball. The Washington Mystics are a professional Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) team that plays under head coach Mike Thibault.

We are proud to present this opportunity to the community in which we live and work through encouraging the development of DC youth and young professionals.

employees of the month

April 2016: Leslie RichardsonLeslie joined MIL in Feb. 2010 as a junior help desk analyst on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) financial system support project. With 12 years of accounts payable and accounts receivable experience under her belt, she has performed account reconciliations, data entry, and an array of administrative duties. Leslie has a dual role on the FAA Project; she is both a member of the PRISM help desk team and a backup for the PRISM recertification team.

In her role, Leslie provides off-site consulting support services for FAA’s PRISM Help Desk. She answers incident calls, researches customers’ issues, and provides the appropriate resolution. To keep things running smoothly, Leslie runs and distributes pending financial approvals and approved daily reports in PRISM to help desk team members at headquarters. Additionally, she assists with the de-obligation of inactive PRISM purchase orders.

Leslie’s additional role at FAA involves backup support for the ongoing PRISM recertification process. In this role, she analyzes PRISM user account data files, validates account information, and follows through on the recertification process with managers. Day-in and day-out, she works hard to keep the PRISM Recertification Standing Operating Procedures (SOP) up-to-date and performs quality assurance, maintaining high standards. Leslie diligently keeps all aspects of her job uniform, carefully preparing PRISM-related deliverables in the FAA specified format and executing user-account procedures and reports.

The MIL FAA Project Management team appreciates the flexibility, tireless level of commitment, and contribution made by Leslie in her various roles on the FAA project.

May 2016: Michael Vincent Mike Vincent has been a part of the MIL C4IS team since 2010, serving as a systems analyst. Most notably, he has been integral in successfully supporting the build-up of the new integration lab onsite at our Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Webster Field location. Mike is always looking for process improvements along with meeting new challenges, which will allow MIL to identify new work for our customer and team.

Currently, Mike is working closely with our customer to identify requirements to support the Unmanned Carrier Aviation (UCA) project as the lead In Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) for the program. Mike has been instrumental in finding new work for the C4IS Sector and is always looking for ways to grow our workforce. Our customer has been very impressed with his “can-do” attitude,

which is also recognized by his peers and C4IS leadership. Mike is an extremely dedicated employee and many also recognize him for his unselfish commitment to our community. Almost every weekend, locals can find him working with the Seventh District Vol. Rescue Squad, where he along with others, provide free emergency medical service to the community.

“We can always depend on Mike to alert us to any upcoming issues-- with the added bonus of a well thought out and viable solution,” said MIL Operations Manager Ricky Chesser.

Mike is a great ambassador for MIL and the C4IS Sector and we are proud to have him as part of the team!

June 2016: Abby OlarteAbby joined MIL in May 2013 and immediately became an invaluable asset at the NRC client site. An expert at managing a demanding client, Abby provides a high level of support on a consistent basis and wears a multitude of hats on site. Currently, she serves as a SQL developer, analyst, consultant, and project lead for her task. Not to mention, Abby has been acting as the lead on the Reports Task for almost two years now. She is seen as the “go-to” person by the

client and has been instrumental in obtaining our current sole source contract at NRC.

Recently, Abby was given glowing praise and recognition from Angel Wilson, a senior systems accountant, a client with the Strategic Sourcing & Policy Branch, Acquisition Systems Team.

“I would like to take a moment to recognize someone who has been very instrumental in several high impact processes/events here in AMD,” said Wilson. “Abegail Olarte, MIL/OCFO, has provided outstanding support to the Acquisition Management Division (AMD) of ADM. As the FAIMIS IV&V representative, Abby verified that the STAQS requisitions and award transactions were processed in FAIMIS (e.g., from the back-end of FAIMIS through to the posting in the general ledger). Working with AMD’s IV&V contractor (Sue Daly), Abby also developed the business analytic reports that generate the nightly FAIMIS obligation and commitment extracts. The data from these extracts are crucial for the STAQS System Assurance Process and the FAIMIS interface security audits. Another example of her exemplary efforts to support AMD was during the time that there was a pending government shutdown. Abby quickly pulled a report together of STAQS Vendor POCs from FAIMIS, which was then loaded into STAQS to support the vendor notification process.”

We are very proud of the work Abby does and the way she represents MIL. Congrats, Abby!
