INTRODUCTION

• Vert Rotors has developed the world’s smallest rotary compressor producing higher pressures with minimum noise and vibration

• Design and manufacturing facility in Edinburgh, UK

• Prototyping low-vibration cryo-coolers for Earth-observation satellites for UK Ministry of Defence

• A supplier of Command and Control defence research to UK MoD, recognising a potential “step-change” in the UK technical capability

VERT ROTORS’ INNOVATION

4CONFIDENTIAL

Patents pending: EU 13728799.1, USA 14/896,645, PCT/GB2015/050459, USA 14/837,736

Conical Rotary Compressor is a new compressor type

1. The smallest rotary compressor producing 115 psig (0.2 hp and 3 hp versions available) for local use

2. The human-friendly small compressor: low-vibration / low-noise

3. Pressure ratio up to 20:1 in a single stage

4. Clean air: water injection instead of oil (current market leaders start from 15kW)

A STABLE INDUSTRY

5

• Compressed air accounts for 10 per cent of industrial electricity demand1 and the total global market for industrial compressors is expected to reach over $17.5 billion by 2017

• Incremental improvements rather than step-change innovation

THE GAP

6

Oil-free screw compressors gradually replace reciprocating type in the higher range (50 - 1000 hp), 57% of annual sales

• Gap in the lower range, sub-2 hp, especially sub-1hp, normally achieved by reciprocating type

• Stricter laws for noise pollution

• Growing demand for 100% oil-free air: the introduction of ISO 8573-1 CLASS 0 for air quality

• Need for small localised compressed air: after 5 years leakages can take 20% of the total air consumption (Atlas Copco)

ROCKET SCIENCE Prototyping low-vibration cryo-coolers for Earth-observation

satellites for UK Ministry of Defence

Vibration is critical for optical sensors

High pressure ratio is favourable for efficient removal of heat

Low vibration and noise will be important for future space activities: processing of compressed air and CO2
