FEATURES
The Mining Master Smart (MM Smart) is a state-of-the art automation controller for the mining industry. It has been designed specially for controlling plant and machinery underground. Typical applications are the monitoring of belt conveyor systems, HP pumps, ventilation doors, rails and cooling devices.
The device is in accordance with the protection mode “intrinsic safety ia” and can be operated even in the presence of an explosive atmosphere when connect-ed to an “ia” circuit.
The performance of the MM Smart is sufficient for controlling plants ranging from small to medium-size. It has adequate capacity for tasks such as the control of pump installations, conveyors, cooling plant, and on-site construction materials plant.
Devices with the product reference IP6X are dust-tight in accordance with DIN EN 60529.
They are designed to meet at least the require-ments for protection against water jets from any direction.
DESIGN
The MM Smart has the advantage of full software compatibility with the Mining Master controller and en-ables the use of existing programs. Fast data transfer over long distances takes place on an Ethernet net-work. Connections are made using fibre-optic cables, which permit communication over distances up to 40 km.
The standard MULTIPROG® programming system is based on modern 32-bit Windows technology and in-corporates all the features of the standard IEC 61131-3. With tools such as zoom, drag-and-drop, and dock-able windows, it simplifies operation for the user. The visualisation framework PLCPanel is supplied with every Mining Master Smart. It is in interactive com-munication with the control process and enables the display of application-specific information, such as op-eration or fault messages, and the configuration set-tings of the controller.
When troubleshooting, this helps the user to find the general location of a problem faster so that it is easier to home in on a defective operating point.
MORE PERFORMANCE
MMS can be provided with the optional Speed-CPU FB 213.5A. In comparison with the stand-ard FB 213 module (16 bit), Speed-CPU has a
32-bit architecture and a 1GB working memory. In this way, Speed-CPU enables faster data processing and, as a result, shorter reaction times.
The better performance permits the processing and output of voice files via the field bus intercom (au-tomatic announcements and voice notices) or in the VoIP adapter, more rapid data processing on the net-work interface and a faster graphics function (image formation) through the WLAN module. The current con-sumption of FB 213.5A lies at 1.7A with all permitted interfaces equipped. In the case of the MMS standard basic module FB 213, the second network interface can continue to be used as a local service interface. Only one network interface is available. The FB213.4A MMS-Speed basic module permits the connection of an RJ45 adapter via a USB interface for local servicing purposes. An MMS with a Speed-CPU can be operated at ambient temperatures from –10°C to + 45°C.
MMS-Speed with FB 213.4A is suitable for sophisti-cated applications with complex programs. (Control-lers, machine control systems, and monitoring equip-ment with short reaction times).
The core of the controller is based on industrial PC technology combined with a colour-graphics display.

Up to four modules for connecting sensors and actuators can be inte-grated in the expansion housing.
USER-FRIENDLY CONFIGURATIONCONTROL ELEMENTS
The PC user interface offers all the advantages of a modern human-machine interface. The robust touch-pad and individually adaptable control elements allow for convenient operation of a control system. A further feature of the controller is the local emergency stop switch. If used as a control stand, the control panel of the MM Smart is equipped with an emergency stop switch.
• User-friendly
MULTIPROG® PROGRAMMING SYSTEM
The standard MULTIPROG® programming system sim-plifies operation for the user through tools like zoom, drag and drop, and dockable windows. Via the menu, libraries can be included, data types realised and functions integrated quickly and easily, for example.
• Functionality
PLCPANEL AND PROVISIT® VISUALISATION TOOLS
Mining Master Smart comes with the “PLCPanel” ba-sic configuration framework. It is able to display us-er-specific information such as status and fault mes-sages and control unit configuration settings. ProVisIT is an easy to operate, compact machine visualisation
system with impressive features.
• Information
Machine visualisation via ProVisIT provides clear dis-play of system status and fault messages. ProVisIT also supports parameterisation and configuration in case of changes to the machine. ProVisIT supports Unicode. This allows the display of Cyrillic and Chi-nese characters. The tool also offers full OPC support.
This allows machine visualisation also via the network
interface of the control unit externally.
• Transparency
The MM Smart has a particularly user-friendly con-figuration, a USB WiFi interface and allows for the expansion of I/O via modular sub-assembly.
• Mobility
INTERFACES TO MACHINE OR SYSTEM PERIPHERY
With the MM Smart, up to two RS 485 fieldbus lines in BTS standard and Modbus RTU or two Ast lines to PROMOS Ast standard can be configured.
SAFETY CIRCUITS
The two fieldbus systems (Ast and BTS fieldbus) are provided with a safety circuit in the system line.
DESIGN
The basic unit comprises a housing with a swing door. The door contains the following integral components:
• 4 indicators with multi-coloured LEDs• a graphic display• a touchpad as a mouse substitute
Otherwise, the equipment integrated in the door can vary. The housing contains the controller basic mod-ule, which can be equipped with the following inter-faces:
• 2 fieldbuses (Ast or BTS, or a combination of both) – without safety circuit – with safety circuit
• 1 TP/FX converter• 1 USB/WLAN converter as add-on module
An expansion housing can be added to the basic housing.Up to 20 additional display or control elements can be
integrated in the door of the expan-sion housing.

The interfaces for fieldbuses and LAN are connected by means of plug connectors. A WiFi antenna can be connected to a socket on the housing, either directly or via a connecting cable. The controller basic module and each fieldbus must be supplied by a separate power supply unit in each case, each being connected to terminals via a cable gland.
A complete supply solution for the control unit provided by a compact power supply unit is available as an option. In this case, the connection to the control unit is set up by means of a cable pre-assembled with plug connectors. In the expansion housing, cable glands are used to connect sensors or actuators to terminals that are already hard-wired to the expansion modules.
