    Tacoma 4 runs, 10 hits, 0 errors Reno 5 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors RECAP: The Rainiers held an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and a 4-3 lead after 3 innings, but allowed unanswered runs in the bottom of the 4th and 5th inning as Tacoma fell to Reno on Sunday. 3B Carlos Rivero (3x4, R, 2B) led the team with 3 hits, while 1B Erik Kratz (2x4, 2 RBI) and DH Steve Baron (2x4) each collected 2 of the teams 10 hits. Starter Roenis Elias (4.0,4,4,4,2,2,2HR) allowed 4 runs on 4 hits over 4.0 innings, but did not factor into the decision.     HEY NOW YOU ARE AN ALL-STAR: The Pacific Coast League announced that Tacoma Rainiers infielders Jesus Montero (will not participate after recall to Seattle) and Ketel Marte, along with right-handed pitcher Forrest Snow will represent the PCL in the First National Bank Triple-A All-Star Game. The contest will be held at Werner Park in Omaha, Nebraska on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. CST and will be televised on MLB Network. Montero and Ketel were selected as starters, while Snow was selected to the team as a reserve. This marks the second consecutive season that multiple Rainiers players will start for the PCL in the Triple-A All-Star Game. Infielders Chris Taylor, Nick Franklin, and Gabriel Noriega started for the PCL in 2014 and were joined by right-handed pitcher Logan Kensing.

    TRIPLE-A HOME RUN DERBY: Jesus Montero (will not participate after recall to Seattle), Cody Decker and Peter O'Brien of the Pacific Coast League along with Jesus Aguilar, Dariel Alvarez, Matt Davidson of the International League, have been named the six Triple-A All-Star representatives to participate in the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby, powered by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD). The Home Run Derby will take place on Monday, July 13 at Werner Park in Omaha, Nebraska, at 7:35 p.m. CST, leading up to the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 15.

ROY HOWELL TAKES OVER AS MANAGER: The Seattle Mariners announced that hitting coach Roy Howell would assume managerial duties for the Jackson Generals for the remainder of the 2015 season beginning June 30. Jim Horner, who had managed Seattles Double-A affiliate since the beginning of last year, recently accepted an assistant coaching position at Washington State University. It marks the second-consecutive season that Howell has taken over as manager for a Seattle affiliate. Last March, he replaced Rich Donnelly as the manager at Triple-A Tacoma after Donnelly was named the Mariners third-base coach in Spring Training. He led the Rainiers to a 74-70 mark, and his 74 victories were tied for the 9th-most by a manager in his first full season. Howell, in his 4th season with the Mariners organization, spent 2012 and 2013 with the High Desert Mavericks in the California League. His managerial resume includes three seasons at short-season Eugene (2003-05), three seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and one season leading the field staff for the Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged time in the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as three seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-02).

    Seattle Mariners minor league SS Ketel Marte and RHP Edwin Diaz represented the World team in the 17th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game to be played today at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, as part of All-Star weekend. Marte, 21, went 2-for-2 with 1 RBI playing second and batting leadoff for the World Team. He was on the disabled list with fractured his left thumb, June 1-July 9. He injured his thumb on May 31 vs. Round Rock. He appeared in 1 game with the Mariners in the Arizona League on rehab assignment before being reinstated from the DL and transferred to Jackson for 2 games on July 9. Marte hit safely in 42 of 51 games with 19 multi-hit contest, batting .343 (68x198) with 30 runs scored, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 24 RBI, 18 walks and 17 stolen bases with AAA Tacoma. At the time of his injury (through game on May 31), Marte led the PCL in average (.343/68x198), games (51) and hits (68), while ranking 2nd in stolen bases (17) and at-bats (198) and 3rd in lowest TPA/SO ratio (11.05). Marte was signed as a non-drafted free agent on Aug. 13, 2010. Over 5 seasons in the Mariners organization, he is batting .293 (492x1680) with 273 runs scored, 67 doubles, 19 triples, 162 RBI, 105 walks and 97 stolen bases in 430 games. Diaz, 21, allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 1 in 0.2 innings (3rd and 4th innings) for the World squard. He is currently pitching for AA Jackson in the Southern League.     Seattle Mariners minor league INF/OF Patrick Kivlehan (AAA Tacoma Rainiers) was named to the 2015 U.S. Pan American Mens Baseball Team roster, INF/OF Jordy Lara (AA Jackson Generals) was named to the 2015 Dominican Republic Pan Am roster, OF Tyler ONeill (A Bakersfield Blaze) was named to the 2015 Canada Pan AM Team roster. The teams will compete in the Pan American Games in Toronto, Ontario (baseball competition to be held in Ajax), July 10 to 19. The U.S. roster features 24 players not currently on Major League Baseball 40-man rosters. The Pan Am Team gathered in Cary, N.C., at the USA Baseball National Training Complex where it will train from July 4 to 8. The U.S. departed for Toronto for the Pan American Games where it will look to win its first Pan Am gold since 1967. First round action kicks off on July 11, against Puerto Rico at the Presidents Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark. The 2013 World Baseball Classic Team was the latest professional team fielded by USA Baseball. In the most recent Pan American Games, the 2011 club earned the silver medal with a 3-2 record, falling to Canada in the gold-medal game.
