SMART Monitoring
Successful operation of pulp and paper mill depends on sensors measuring key process variables such as
consistency, brightness or kappa. The cornerstone of an efficient process is the reliability and repeatability
of each measurement. This means that regular manual sensor checks need to take place, which can be
complicated, time-consuming, and expensive.
BTG makes it easy
With SMART Monitoring, users get early and real-time performance information on all assets. BTG
sensors and related process measurements are continuously monitored in order to detect abnormal
operation. BTG application experts can remotely access and diagnose problems, meaning near-immediate
identification of measurement or calibration problems.
Increased collaboration
The cloud deployment removes
traditional time and distance barriers,
facilitating real-time collaboration
between your site, BTG service
personnel and BTG’s global process and
instrument experts. This collaboration
permits to address operational issues
and unexpected events much more
quickly.
Increased productivity
The better data insights produced through
SMART Monitoring transform the overall
effectiveness of the mill operations.
Downtime is reduced and opportunities
are visible, permitting to maximize the
utilization of the assets in the mill.
SMART Monitoring is based on bConnect™.
bConnect™ is BTG’s gateway to the benefits of industry 4.0 – a complete, globally
available, unified edge-to-cloud solution for connecting mill assets.
Built around the Microsoft Azure platform, bConnect connects BTG process instrumen-
tation into a cloud infrastructure via specially developed BTG edge hardware. In the
cloud, Digital Twin sensor intelligence is realized, whereby all connected BTG devices
are duplicated virtually.
Comprising BTG innovations in both on-site and cloud services, and supported through
our global engineering and applications team, bConnect™ meets the precise needs
and solves the challenges facing today’s pulp and paper mill companies.
Get SMART Monitoring now!
Transitioning a mill to a SMART Monitoring service is easy, fast and efficient. SMART Monitoring comes as an add-on to
an existing BTG Instrument service contract, as a monthly subscription fee by instrument. The value of your service contract
will be highly maximized, thanks to the transformation of a discrete approach to a continuous support.
Upgrading the BTG instruments with SMART Monitoring takes a few minutes and is done by our BTG experts on-site. Once
this is done, your mill will enter a new era that you will never want to leave!
Customer successes
Customers are sharing the benefits they
experience:
● 70’000€ / year in fiber savings thanks
to higher measurement accuracy
● 210’000€ / year in chemical savings,
as well as reduced variability of the
brightness.
