1. Excluded are a total of 955 and 1030 reported incidents with a recording of unknown person group (i.e Child or Adult) for 2016/17 and 2017/18 respectively.2. Total number of incidents adjusted for 2017/18.3. The incident data from Bedfordshire Police for 2016/17 is drawn from a different system, making the 2016/17 data incomparable with the 2015/16 data.4. Dorset Police were unable to provide data for 2015/16 due to a change in ICT system part way through the year.5. The adult incident data from Lincolnshire Police only included data for Q2-Q4 (July 2016-March 2017) due to a change in recording practices. The data is therefore not directly comparable with the data for 2015/16.6. PSNI refer to missing persons reports and Scotland refers to missing persons investigations.. = Not applicable.x = Not available.

1. The percentage increase in children recorded has been calculated excluding Bedfordshire, Cleveland and Dorset data. 2. The percentage increase in adults recorded has been calculated excluding Bedfordshire, Cleveland, Dorset and Lincolnshire data.3. The individual data from Bedfordshire Police for 2016/17 are drawn from a different system, making the 2016/17 data incomparable with the 2015/16 data.4. Cleveland and Dorset Police were unable to provide this data for 2015/16.5. The adult individual data from Lincolnshire Police only includes data for Q2-Q4 (July 2016-March 2017) due to a change in recording practices. The data was therefore not directly comparable with the data for 2015/16.6. Excludes 224 individuals in E&W, who had been reported with an unknown person group (i.e. Child or Adult).. = Not applicable.x = Not available.

1. Figures were provided on basis of what forces had risk assessed and may not match total number of incidents in C1. Greater Manchester was unable to provide this data.2. Police Service for Northern Ireland and Police Scotland both provided figures for cases that had not been risk graded, often due to the report being closed before an assessment had been completed. It is not possible to determine the level of ungraded reports for England and Wales due to inconsistencies in how the information was provided. 3. Police Service for Northern Ireland refer to their records as missing person reports. These are deemed to be similar but may not be directly comparable to the incidents created on the police recording systems in England and Wales. 4. Police Scotland data relates to the number of missing person investigations recorded on their bespoke system. These are deemed to be similar but may not be directly comparable to the incidents created on the police recording systems in England and Wales. . = Not applicable.x = Not available.

2. These forces were unable to provide outcome data.

3. Figures included for completeness and as reported. High numbers of "harm unspecified" have been excluded from the analysis to prevent over reporting of numbers, where the nature of harm (or no harm) was unverifiable.

Table E3: Nature of harm suffered whilst missing (incidents)1

1. The data is taken from closure reports added to missing incidents. It therefore excludes any incidents not resolved by 31 March 2018, and is dependent on the information disclosed when the person returns. It therefore may underrepresent the

harm suffered whilst individuals are missing as they may not disclose this to officers immediately on their return.

2. These forces were unable to provide this data as they did not record the harm suffered in this manner whilst missing.

3. These force had a high number of unspecified types of harm and need to be viewed with some caution. Data is presented for completeness.

4. The total number of times harm outcomes were endorsed on closure reports for missing incidents. It is possible to endorse more than one harm outcome, and therefore does not equate to the total number of incidents where

the person suffered some form of harm.
