City Center Residents & Friends, Summer is here, and the CCRA’s summer programming is now in full swing! This month, we kicked things off with two highly successful events with three of our most important community partners. You can read all about them in this newsletter’s Bmore Yearbook section. The CCRA has more fun planned for this summer and fall, but we need your help to keep the ball rolling! Specifically, we’re looking for volunteers to help us plan events, promote them around town, and work the CCRA event sign-in table. Next month, we’ll be kicking off our second annual “Christmas in July” collection drive, benefitting the Franciscan Center. That event requires volunteers to wrap collection boxes, distribute them to apartment buildings, and pick them up at the end of the month. Shoot us an email at [email protected] if you’d like to get involved! Finally, as the weather warms up, don’t forget to visit City Center’s many public parks! Hopkins Plaza, Preston Gardens, McKeldin Square, Center Plaza, and the Inner Harbor waterfront parks are all great places to take in the sights and sounds of summer. There’s even more incentive to get outside this year—the Downtown Partnership and CCRA are forming a focus group on Downtown’s public spaces. Shoot us an email if you’d like to get involved with that effort! We hope to begin meeting later this year. City Center Residents & Friends,

Summer is here, and the CCRA’s summer programming is now in full

swing! This month, we kicked things off with two highly successful events

with three of our most important community partners. You can read all

about them in this newsletter’s Bmore Yearbook section.

The CCRA has more fun planned for this summer and fall, but we need your

help to keep the ball rolling! Specifically, we’re looking for volunteers to

help us plan events, promote them around town, and work the CCRA event

sign-in table.

Next month, we’ll be kicking off our second annual “Christmas in July”

collection drive, benefitting the Franciscan Center. That event requires

volunteers to wrap collection boxes, distribute them to apartment

buildings, and pick them up at the end of the month. Shoot us an email

at [email protected] if you’d like to get involved!

Finally, as the weather warms up, don’t forget to visit City Center’s many

public parks! Hopkins Plaza, Preston Gardens, McKeldin Square, Center

Plaza, and the Inner Harbor waterfront parks are all great places to take in

the sights and sounds of summer. There’s even more incentive to get

outside this year—the Downtown Partnership and CCRA are forming a focus

group on Downtown’s public spaces. Shoot us an email if you’d like to get

involved with that effort! We hope to begin meeting later this year.

Thanks, -Bill King, CCRA President [email protected]

March 13: City Center Residents

Association brought residents

together for a night at the theater

by organizing a pay-what-you-can

play. Residents met at The Atrium

Apartments & Lofts for a pre-

show soiree featuring

refreshments and raffle prizes,

then walked to the nearby Everyman Theatre to enjoy a

performance of Aubergine.

April 11: Approximately 60 residents gathered for CCRA’s Second

Annual Light the Night Happy Hour in honor of Light City. City

Center neighbors donned glow sticks and mingled while enjoying

drink specials and complimentary appetizers. Thanks to the

Tavern Bar in Lord Baltimore Hotel for hosting!

May 7: CCRA works to realize our vision of a City Center that is clean, safe, and welcoming.

Staybridge Suites Inner Harbor hosted the CCRA’s Clean and Safe Forum, where local

business representatives shared concerns and generated ideas with the Safety Committee.

June 5: The Downtown Partnership of Baltimore hosted us for a “Meet & Greet” with candidates for elected office in Maryland’s 40th and 46th legislative districts. The event was a first for City Center’s residential community and will hopefully pave the way for increased engagement with our state elected officials. June 14: Social hour at “A Taste of Lexington Market,” co-sponsored by Lexington Market and the Market Center Merchants Association, provided a spread of fabulous food and

drink from market vendors, and we drew nearly 100 City Center residents and their guests to Baltimore’s largest public market. Thanks to the MCMA and

participating vendors for your hospitality!

Bmore in the Know

Baltimore Kicks Off Outdoor Events Season Baltimore kicked off the outdoor events season with Light City and the

Preakness Stakes.

The contrast between the two is great. The tradition-steeped Preakness

Stakes had its first run in 1873, while this year was the third year for the

modern-art and technology filled Light City.

With its new extended schedule this year, Light City drew a larger crowd

than 2017: nearly 450,000 people visited Downtown during the event. The

one-day extravaganza Preakness Stakes was attended by 140,327 this year,

its third highest on record.

Baltimore will see many additional awesome outdoor events in the coming

weeks, including Jazzy Summer Nights right here in City Center at Hopkins

Plaza (July 5, Aug 9 & 30) and the nation’s largest free art festival, Artscape

(July 20-22).

Bmore Safe

Developing

The extensive growth City Center has experienced over the past several years has been exciting to watch. Former office buildings continue to be converted to efficient and modern apartment buildings rich in amenities. As more people choose City Center as their neighborhood, new restaurants and retailers are beginning to open, making City Center a true live—work—play neighborhood. There are many high profile buildings that have already delivered or are scheduled to deliver in the upcoming months:

PMC Property Group recently opened The Residences at 300 St. Paul.

Located directly across from the newly renovated Preston Gardens, the former OneMain Financial building has been converted into a 279-unit apartment complex.

Monument Realty recently has begun leasing at 225 N. Calvert, the former Bank of America operations center, now home to 366 residential units and 10,000 square feet of new retail at the corner of Calvert and Saratoga.

Questar Properties is now leasing 414 Light Street, a brand new 535-unit luxury apartment building, featuring 12,300 square feet of street level retail. 414 Light Street is now the tallest residential tower in downtown Baltimore at 500 feet and 44 stories.

Stay tuned for future updates regarding the growth of City Center!
