2012 ANNUAL REPORT
The Mississippi Business Education Association is affiliated with the National Business Education Association, the Southern Business Education Association, the Association of Career and Technical Education, and the Mississippi Association of Career and Technical Education.
The purposes of the Association are as follows: Establish and maintain active state leadership in the promotion of all types of
business/technology education. Provide open forums and conferences for the study and discussion of all
questions involved in business/technology education. Render assistance and advice to the State Department of Education of
Mississippi on problems pertaining to business/technology education. Unify all the business/technology education interests of the State of Mississippi
through representative membership. Cooperate with other states and other organizations of individuals interested in
business/technology education in the further development of business/technology education.
Encourage further development of programs of education related to business/technology education.
Encourage a favorable attitude toward business/technology education and to promote the expansion and improvement of programs of business/technology education within the State.
Executive Board
The governing board of the association is the Executive Board. The Executive Board is composed of the elected officers of president, president-elect, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and historian. The past president serves on the board as chair of the Nominating Committee. SBEA membership director serves a three-year term. Three high school representatives serve three-year staggered terms. One student member serves a one-year term. Four members leave office each year, thereby maintaining a two-thirds representation of experienced members serving on the board at all times. Officers are elected during the annual fall conference. Membership in SBEA and NBEA is required to be eligible to serve on the MBEA Executive Board.
The Mississippi Business Education Association Executive Board meets three times a year. These meetings are held in the spring, summer, and fall. Continuous communication between the president and board members is maintained throughout the year to ensure that the membership remains abreast of current business. The election of officers takes place at the annual fall meeting. The members of the 2012-2013 MBEA Executive Board are as follows:

The Mississippi Business Education Association’s membership is from September to September. Membership currently stands at 81 with new membership dues arriving weekly.

Professional Conferences
SBEA 2010 in Charleston, South Carolina. The SBEA convention was held in Charleston, South Carolina on October 19-23, 2011. Margaret Blue, Carole Deere, Madelon Gruich, Donna Parker, Diane Fisher, Sharon Rouse, Connie Forde and other MBEA members attended the convention. Several Mississippi MBEA members served as session coordinators.
NBEA 2011 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Several Mississippi business educators attended this year’s NBEA Convention in New Orleans. The convention was held April 19-23, 2011. Diane Fisher, Madelon Gruich, Sharon Rouse, Margaret Blue, Joyce Hill, Carole Deere, Hope Kergosien, Donna Parker, Connie Forde, and Steve Mark attended the convention. Diane Fisher was the chairperson of the Decorations Committee and Margaret Blue was the chairperson of the Audiovisual Services Committee. Several MBEA members also served on those committees and several presented session topics and served as session coordinators and facilitators.
MBEA Fall 2011 Conference in Raymond, Mississippi. The Fall 2012 Mississippi Business Education Conference was held at the Eagle Ridge Conference Center in Raymond, Mississippi on September 12-13, 2012. The theme of the conference was Open Your Eyes to New Technology. Participants enjoyed cutting edge workshops learning about the latest technological and academic advances in the field of business education. Approximately 70 members were in attendance. Mississippi Business Education Association Professional Awards. The Mississippi Business Education Association presents professional awards annually to outstanding business educators. Recipients for this year are listed below:

Student Organizations--
The FBLA-PBL mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. FBLA-PBL is headquartered in Reston, Virginia, and organized on local, state, and national levels. Many MBEA members/business teachers are advisers to guide local chapters. State advisers and committee members coordinate chapter activities for the national organization.
FBLA-PBL is a nonprofit association of students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields. The Association has four divisions:
FBLA for high school students FBLA Middle Level for junior high, middle, and intermediate school students PBL for postsecondary students Professional Division for business people, educators, and parents who support the
goals of the Association.
FBLA/PBL Foundation
MBEA has contributed $1,000 to become a lifetime member of the Mississippi FBLA-PBL Foundation. This foundation was established in 1987 and was the first of its kind in the national association. MBEA sponsors the Future Business Teacher competitive event by presenting the first -place state winner with a cash prize. The primary goals of the Foundation are to promote the education of members participating in the Mississippi Chapter of FBLA-PBL and to assist members with their expenses to national leadership conferences.
