• > 125 Gbps peak traffic (30% growth YoY)

• more than 125k routes announced on the exchange by members

Why IXP

• Goal #1: Keep local traffic local with Peering: less Latency for end users, more services on the Net

• Goal #2 create an Interconnection point where ISP can cooperate AND compete (coopetition) where Transit providers compete (lower Transit fees) and where attract Content Giants eager to Peer

IXP Model

• Better Not For Profit (the ‘EU’ way)

• Even in Regions where historically IX is a Service, this is often offered as/from a Separate Entity which acts as a Neutral Advisor/Facilitator/Broker

• A Consortium with a Limited as Operations arm is possibly the best choice

Interconnecting IXP

• IMHO, the Internet is best if made by ISPs interconnected at IXP.

• However, Interconnecting IXPs makes sense to aggregate traffic in regions and sustain small players

• If Carrier Neutral datacenters are missing is a good way to reach Content Giants too as a tactical step
