FROM MESSAGE OFHIS HOLINESS,
POPE BENEDICT XVIFOR LENT 2011
Dear Brothers and Sisters, through thepersonal encounter with our Redeemerand through fasting, almsgiving andprayer, the journey of conversion to-wards Easter leads us to rediscover ourBaptism. This Lent, let us renew our
acceptance of the Grace that God be-stowed upon us at that moment, sothat it may illuminate and guide all of our actions. What theSacrament signifies and realizes, we are called to experienceevery day by following Christ in an ever more generous andauthentic manner. In this our itinerary, let us entrust our-selves to the Virgin Mary, who generated the Word of God infaith and in the flesh, so that we may immerse ourselves - justas she did - in the death and resurrection of her Son Jesus, andpossess eternal life. ANNUAL DIOCESAN APPEAL 2011
Jesus didn’t do it alone. He called disciples to as-sist him in his mission. Jesus challenged andsupported his disciples - at times gently chidingthem, or reaching out a hand to help, and at timesdemanding a lot from them. Our Lord walks with
us but he also challenges us to be good disciples by supportingthe universal Church. The Annual Diocesan Appeal pro-vides us that opportunity.

Our Lady of Lourdes Church in FifthWard will host a Lenten Mission fromTuesday, April 12 through Thurs-
day, April 14 at 6:30 pm . Fr. ChadPartain, chancellor and pastor of St.Paul Church in Mansura, will talkabout Experiencing the Transforming
and Healing Power of the Sacraments.
We must meditate before, duringand after everything we do. Theprophet says, “I will pray, and thenI will understand.” This is the waywe can easily overcome the count-less difficulties we have to face dayafter day, which, after all, are partof our work. In meditation we findthe strength to bring Christ tobirth in ourselves and in others.
