Minnesota CRS Chapter - President’s Message

In my last President’s column, I wrote about the challenges of transitioning to a new CRS organizational model in 2015. Owing to the number of questions that have been asked by CRS designees about what is underway, I think it’s time that we explain what is in store for all of you and how you will benefit from these changes. The Council of Residential Specialists (CRS) has created a new structure for the CRS community, one that is both supportive of members and flexible enough to take CRS into the future. At the heart of this new CRS Chapter model is a Coordinating Body, essentially a streamlined version of a traditional state (or regional) Chapter. The Coordinating Body is a hub of activity within your region. It will be managed by a leadership team, as today’s Chapters are managed. The Coordinating Body will plan projects, allocate funds and apply for financial support from the Council as needed. Connected through the Coordinating Body will be multiple Local Networking Groups. Local Networking Groups are not separate organizations, but part of a Coordinating Body. Their primary goal is to coordinate activities (such as educational offerings or member events) within a close geographic area. These Local Networking Groups are built around the premise that “real estate is local”, that markets are all unique and that real estate professionals in a particular market area have unique perspectives and needs. The new model makes room for communities of interest and “mastermind groups” within the structure of each state or region. A community of interest might be formed around specialties such as historic homes or luxury properties. A mastermind group might be a small group of like-minded professionals who wish to share knowledge and challenge fellow members to grow and succeed. Another beneficial element of the new CRS organizational model is “unified dues”. This will involve making a single annual dues payment (rather than multiple payments for national and state membership). The new model will involve less paperwork for leadership team members and fewer compliance issues.

Minnesota CRS Chapter – President’s Message

The above elements will be implemented by a Transition team. Many state chapters are already in the process of assembling their Transition team for 2015. One of the features I like best about these Transition teams is the fact that they will include not only existing Chapter leadership members, but will also include CRS designees and Chapter members at large. Pulling this all together will be the staff at the Council of Residential Specialists in Chicago. They will be the glue that holds this dynamic new organizational model together. I hope those of you who share a volunteer spirit will consider becoming involved in the new organizational model that is currently being created by national CRS leaders and staff. There is opportunity to both create and lead within the new CRS community and the new Chapter model offers a place to share your ideas and talents and to expand and enhance your professional growth. Eric Kodner, 2015 Minnesota CRS Chapter President

Minnesota CRS Chapter – Dan Boman, CRS WHY CRS EDUCATION?

As we all continue on our business journeys to improve our knowledge and value to our clients there is one item that stands out to me and that is our ongoing education. Smart agents understand that they need to invest time and money to better themselves with good education. With there being so many different companies and assocations offering education it can be difficult to sort through all the options. Did you know CRS offers many high quality education opportunities both online and in a classroom environment? In the busy and fast paced lifestyles we all live many of us are now turning to shorter 1 or 2 hour webinars and online programs. With all the advances in technology you can be part of these at the office, at a coffee shop or restaurant or maybe even in your car if you have connectivity for your mobile device. We bring the class to wherever you are! We at MN CRS make it a point to bring at least 3 or 4 above average classroom education opportunities to our members each year. We just had Chandra Hall here for 2 days’ worth of excellent education this month. She taught us a class on “Win – Win Negotiations” and “Converting Leads into Closings” they are both part of the new Business Essentials classes CRS just rolled out. It just amazes me after we hold these classes how many student tell us this was the best real estate education they have ever taken! I felt the same way when I took my first CRS class in the mid 1990’s. The instructors are top notch and many are still practicing Realtors so they are using what they are teaching us. These classes will help you improve your production and posture. You can always go to CRS.com and go to the education tab and see what is on the calendar for upcoming classes both online and in a classroom. I will share a tip I learned a while back from another high producing CRS member.

Minnesota CRS Chapter – Dan Boman, CRS WHY CRS EDUCATION?

Step out of your normal education comfort zone and take a class in another state perhaps even one in a warmer climate than here in Minnesota. It is a tax deduction and you will open up doors to meet other agents for developing referral opportunities. Wouldn’t it be nice to go to Florida this month for a few days for a CRS class? I can assure you that you will probably be the only Realtor in that class from Minnesota so bring lots of cards and build those connections. This is how you increase your CRS referral business. Being listed in the CRS referral directory is just the start. It’s never been a better time for you to invest in your education and separate yourself from your competitors by learning to increase you’re earnings. Hope to see you at a future CRS class!
