After landing, we were swept away on a 1 ½ hour bus drive to the Swiss city of Interlaken. Our hotel gave us a wine and cheese social, complete with a briefing of the mountain. We explored Interlaken, (and it looks like someone managed to go shoe shopping, some also bought Swiss Army Knives and/or watches). Monday we headed up the hill for a bluebird day…a perfect day to relax on the slopes. Hey, aren’t you supposed to be skiing?? It snowed 8” that night giving us POWDER. Wednesday was another bluebird day, and a few took the train through Eiger Mountain to the highest train station in Europe. We had good weather for next three days of skiing at the Schilthorn Piz Gloria, and Kleine Scheidegg. You could see ITALY! One dark/lightless night we had an exhilarating sled run down the mountain with a hearty meal at the end. Travel to France on Sunday was by express train. Our guide, Steven, met us at the train station in Paris, and we headed to Deauville, Normandy. We toured Omaha Beach with guide Jean-Pierre Benamou, an acclaimed author on the Allied landing. The tour included riding in WWII vehicles and a very moving and somber visit to the American cemetery. Then, the Abbey at Mont Saint-Michel was a very special day as we relived life in the middle ages. We rounded our trip-off with a bus tour of Paris, including a walking tour of neighborhoods. We roamed the streets, museums and restaurants of Paris for the next two days, before regrettably heading home. Thanks to HOLIDAZE SKI TOURS for setting up this trip. http://holidaze.com/. We took to the skies on March 5th for Zurich, Switzerland.

Wednesday was another bluebird day, and a few took the train through Eiger Mountain to the

Annual Meeting 2016 The club’s annual meeting began with drinks on the outdoors patio of the Powderhaus Brewing Company, and members perusing ski trip wish-lists for 2017 trips. Big Mike’s Food truck served up lasagna or spaghetti and salad. President Kuhrt

kicked-off the annual meeting on the outside patio. The Sally Rutledge Award went to Carol Peterson, for outstanding service to the club despite great personal difficulties. Despite a protracted healing process, Carol continued to maintain our Mogul. The Spirit Award went to Ron Graff, for his continual “stepping up

to the plate” as a new member to help out with events—not to mention his enduring smile always raising our spirits.

The Old Boot Award went to Paul Markowitz, for his never-ending cheer while setting up, helping out, and taking down tables, chairs, posters, raffle items, etc., at ALL events. Yes, he was there at every single event, besides leading a fantastic ski trip to Interlaken Switzerland and France.

The 1st Black Diamond Award of 2015-2016 (a map with magnifying glass) went to Bob Running for leading the biking group on an extended, uphill, “wild goose chase” by missing a turn during the Wine & Bike trek. The 2nd Black

Diamond Award for the season (a pair of handcuffs) went to Sue and Doug Baker, who could not keep track of each other while in Interlaken. Doug got off the ski train with his skis as well as Sue’s. Sue stayed on the train. The train left the station. And that was just the first of many Baker mishaps! New Board members were voted in for the upcoming two-year stint: Anna Anderson, Tricia Hoffman, Margie Ridgeway, Mark Barnard, and Paul Markowitz. Welcome.

Ski Club President Darryl Kuhrt and Marketing Director Kim Hovren recognized Bob Greenwood for his

upcoming 90th birthday and the many years of service and support to the ski club and Bogus Mountain. He spoke of his support and

love of skiing and challenged everyone there to keep supporting “Our Mountain, Bogus Basin.” Brad Wilson, the new general manager of Bogus Basin Recreation Area, spoke about the enthusiastic skiers this season and how much he appreciated our support. He has great plans for the future. Darryl expressed his appreciation to the board by presenting mugs engraved with the BBSC logo.

After four years as president of the club, club bylaws require Darryl to step down as we begin the new fiscal year. We are ALL grateful for the dedication and time Darryl has given. Mother Nature accommodated with perfect late spring weather, and the brewery lawn and fire pit afforded campfire-like atmosphere after the meeting and into the evening. Guitarists Ted Hogander, Pat Rice, and Ross McIntire entertained us with music as we closed down the brewery. Thanks to Michael Bouton and Natalie Angell for pulling this event together. 91 members attended!

BBSC Race Team The race team enjoyed another fun year competing on the mountain. Team members included Karl Vogt, Tom Halvorson, Chris Halvorson, David Henry, Laura Eley, Tonya Robbins, Lisa Steele, and Rosie Rosco.

Utah, Utah, Utah You too would love to ski Utah. And we did with 63 trip participants and two buses. The ski club’s first ski day was at Powder Mountain but mother nature, in its fickled way, gave us 70 mph wind—just too much to brave. This provided a day to look around Ogden. Then came fresh

snow and a bluebird day allowing skiers to conquer Powder Mountain. On the last day we explored Snow Basin. Whatever the ski level, both mountains had something for

everyone. Luckily we had no casualties, except for a

broken thumb, the result of bad skiing form. For us, Ogden and the Ben Lomond Hotel again gave their all—providing sites to see and warm suites to enjoy. Ogden’s excellent restaurants also provided a night out for several in the group. A favorite for many was the Old Train Station with its restaurant, and train, car, skiing, state

history and weapon museums. The bus rides down and back were FUN. When can we go back?

End of Season Blues? Not for the ski club! 2016 gave us the best spring skiing in memory and provided the end of season ski club tailgate party, at Pioneer Lodge parking lot, a

most memorable event. Tucanos Brazilian Grill added their famous meats and drinks to the

club grilling, deserts and coolers. About 90 revelers braved the sunny day and just had fun. If you were observant you could catch the bikini skiers take off down the slopes. So was it perfect? Absolutely! To see all the pics from the day, go to http://www.bogusbasinskiclub.org/photos.

In Memoriam The Bogus Basin Ski Club is so blessed to have dedicated and supportive members. Today we recognize three members who have passed. We may not be able to ski with them again, but we continue to have fond memories. George Medek Janet Stone Ray Wilmot George was a do-it-all member. He cut brush, volunteered for the road cleanup and helped build the Club Yurt at the top of Deer Point. He also modified "Big Bertha" so Carol Peterson could open the lid. Janet loved to downhill ski and was a member of Bogus Basin Ski Club and Vertigals. With Debi, Alice, Penny, and Connie, they formed Thirty-Two Degree Below Ski Sisters. Ray oversaw the school race program for over 15 years. Dottie Clark would be proud of the work Ray did. Thank you to all of you for your contributions to our sport.

Far West Ski Association Convention 2017 June 7-11, 2017 will be the party of the summer. We are expecting 1,500 to come to Boise for this event. Thankfully, "Boise IS" Community and Volunteering. BBSC and the ISC need 50 volunteers to meet/greet, decorate tables, registration, and collect tickets for the different events. Pencil us in. Details to follow.

Road Cleanup The Bogus Basin Ski Club work release crew was placed into service on Sat., May 14 to pick-up the litter and detritus on Bogus Basin Road. Eighteen detainees (aka club members and friends) with orange bags, convict colored vests and a sense of community service scoured the road. Working with untold number of government agencies, Jane Gabbert organized the crew to help beautify the road. With 10 full bags of material collected, everyone felt good with the time they spent. Since this was an all-volunteer effort, the detainees were provided pizza and a beverage for recompense and released on their own recognizance. Thanks Jane, and thanks to all the volunteers for helping support our Mountain.
