    Mohave County Wind Farm ProjectBureau of Land Management, Kingman Field Of ce / Arizona

    This is the second in a series o newsletters to keep youin ormed about the proposed Mohave County WindFarm Project. The proposed project would involve theconstruction o a wind energy generation acility locatedin the White Hills area approximately 40 miles northwesto Kingman, Arizona. The project is proposed by BP WindEnergy and would be primarily located on public landadministered by the Bureau Land Management (BLM).

    As stated in the rst newsletter, the Kingman FieldO ce o the BLM is preparing an Environmental ImpactStatement (EIS) to assess the impact that the construction,operation, maintenance, and decommissioning o theproposed acilities could have on natural and culturalresources and local communities.

    Project Description is Revised Most Private Land Eliminated fromStudy Area The proposed projectwould consist o nomore than 333 windturbines and generateup to 500 megawattso power. Based onadditional studies andcomments receivedduring scoping, theproject area hasbeen revised. Landpreviously identi edas subsequent phasesor Phase 2 o theproject, including13,522 acres o BLM-administered land and4,360 acres privateland, are no longerunder consideration.

    The project area now includes about 40,300 acresacres o BLM-administered land and 9,000 acreso Reclamation land to the west (see map on pag

    Data Collection and AlternativesIdentifcation Currently Underway The rst step in the EIS process, project scoping,identi y questions, issues, and concerns rom thother agencies, and tribes. The comments receivescoping provide direction or developing a reasorange o project alternatives, help to ocus the athe EIS studies, and provide valuable community

    Data Collection The project team is collectindata on land uses and other resources in the projearea to better understand the local environment. Tproject team also will be conducting some eld sin the project area. The team has identi ed severaobservation points that will be used to assess potevisual impacts rom the project and to create simo what the acilities may look like.     BLM Continues Evaluation of ProjectBLM is currently identi ying project alternatives and pre-

    paring or more public meetings to share alternatives withthe public. Details on the public meetings will be provid-ed in the next project mailing and on the project website.

    The next step o the process is to identi y impactsthat could result rom the project under each o thealternatives. The results o the project studies will bedocumented in the Dra t EIS. It is anticipated that theDra t EIS will be available or public and agency reviewin Fall 2010. During the 45-day public review period,the Dra t EIS will be posted on the BLM project websiteand additional public meetings will be held to receivecomments on the dra t document.     announced in a uture newsletter, on the project website, andin local media. The BLM will compile and review all commentsreceived on the Dra t EIS and prepare responses to thosecomments or inclusion in a Final EIS.
