& Everyday we are

bombarded with media,

and instantaneous

information. In such a

digital age, even things

such as books are being

transformed electronically.

The first e-reader was

made in 1998. It wasn’t

until 2007 when e-readers

became popular and

affordable. In less than 5

years, 5 generations of

kindles were created, and

4 generations of the nook

were created.

Moms and

daughters, take these

facts into consideration

when you want an outing.

Book shopping can be

great for many reasons.

You can learn more, you

can talk about what you

read, or you can browse

and not buy. But most of

all: if you can’t figure out

your life, maybe some of

the books at barnes and

noble will!

For other book outings:

Library: Take little sister to

the library so she can pick

out books with her big sis

and mom. This way when

she gets tired of the book

after reading it once you

can just return it!

When life gives you lemons... No, I totally began that wrong. When life gives you SHELBY LEMON, go out for lattes. Coffee, a drink made from the roasted and ground beanlike seeds of a tropical shrub, can be the key ingredient to many situations. Let’s evaluate.

Celebratory: Want to celebrate a new office position, or an ‘A’ on a paper? This calls for a caramel machiatto. (A favorite of ours). This drink is sophisticated, but also good for those with a sweet tooth. Feeling extra fancy? Make it with soy.

Stressed: Make a

starbucks run and talk through whatever problems the world is throwing at you. Be each other’s best listeners. Mom, ignore the fact that your daughter looks like she hasn’t brushed her hair in days. Daughter, remember that you are the favorite child, therefore let your mom vent about the other siblings. (Hint: even though you never get on her nerves, feel sympathetic that the other siblings aren’t as awesome).

Seasonal: When you first hear ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside’

Healthy: Yeah, we like to eat. But who says you have to snack on high calorie icecream or brownies? No way. Mom, teach your daughter good eating habits by not giving her unhealthy food options. Daughter, get a job at Starbucks so your coffee outings won’t be so expensive.

So you are a cool Mom/daughter combo. You have to look the part! How can you casually look awesome and make all other mom/daughters jealous? By following these simple steps.

Clearance:Get the most bang for your buck. Shop the clearnance section, wait for things to go on sale, and shop at less expensive stores so you are not tempted to spend more than you should. Getting less expensive items allow you to have more variety in your wardrobe, and if you ever get tired of something you donate it to salvation army.

Non-matching:Don’t match on purpose. This is just a way to

get ridiculed by the rest of your family. It is way cooler to get dressed and accidentally match.

Comfort:If you are comfortable in what you are wearing, then you will be more confident when you present your-selves. This way, when you’re looking all fancy and you walk in a store people will as the daughter, “Is that your sister with you?” The mom is just as stylish as the daughter.

Tools:Utilize the other person. Mom, we are in the age of chunky jewelry and mix matched colors. Daughter, classy is always in style. Utilize each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

Going the DistanceThe Road to Success

When your daughter is college aged, it not only affects her- it affects you! But you prob-ably already know that. Looking for more ways to see her while she is at school? There are more possi-bilites than you think. And chances are she needs your help more than you know. You’ve been through the craziness of college, so don’t feel unappreciated when you don’t hear from her right away. If she lives close by, she’ll be calling you to take her out for dinner sometime soon. Texts:Send her a text every once in a while just to say hi or to check in. She may be running on 3hrs of sleep, so that encouraging text can certainly help.Plan dates: Not only does this guarantee that you will see your daughter on a specific date, but it also means you guys can go do something fun! Refer to the style page on page 14 to dress accordingly for the outing.Meals: Some daughters go to school and eat their lives away. Some go to school and get too busy to have

full meals. Indicators include, weight loss, increased coffee in-take, and eating through a month’s worth of granola bars in one week. Take this opportunity to take her grocery shopping or take her out for a meal.

School Visits:School visits can be just the break your daughter needs. She may not like to admit she needs help, but that is where you use your moth-er’s intuition and call her up. Load litle sis in the car and grab the daughter for Pita Pit or some soup at Panera. Shopping trips can be a fun study break as well.

Daughter, when you go off to college remember that you are leaving something important be-hind- your mom! She is the one that helped you get to college, so don’t forget she still exists when you start living on your new campus. Even though she is plenty busy, never feel like she isn’t too busy to come see you. Chances are that your mom wants a break from the crazi-ness and coming to see you for the evening could then be beneficial for both parties. Texts: Send her updates about your classes and projects. She can’t know what all you are doing unless you inform her. Let her know you miss her too.Plan dates: Let your mom know about events taking place on campus. It is so much more fun to share experienc-es on your own campus with others.

Plan fun things together so you have something to look forward to.Meals:Don’t skip eating, this worries your mother. If you can’t make time to go visit your family, then multitask by do-ing laundry, eating a real meal, and grocery shop in the pantry at home. School Visits: If you live within an hour of home invite your mom up to enjoy brunch on the weekend, a football game, or a shopping spree. Include your little sis for extra fun.
