MOMENTO LINEAL O CANTIDAD DE
MOVIMIENTO

¿Is it possible for a system of two objects to have zero totalmomentum while having a non-zero total kinetic energy?
1. YES
2. NO
If two blocks attached by a spring at rest push off of each other, the total momentum will be zero because they go in opposite directions. But the kinetic energy will not be zero since they are now moving.

each case they have velocity v downward just before hitting the floor. In
case 1 the ball bounces back up with the same velocity , and in case 2 the
ball sticks to the floor without bouncing. In which case is the magnitude of the impulse given to the ball by the floor the biggest?

grande. El cambio en el momento es el
mismo
(b)Incrementando el tiempo de contacto (Δt
grande) moviendo la mano junto con la
bola, reduce la fuerza de impulso. El

A ball (mass 1.0 kg) is initially moving to the left at 30 m/s.
After hitting the wall, the ball is moving to the right at 20 m/s.
What is the impulse of the net force on the ball during its
collision with the wall?
1. 50 kg • m/s to the right
2. 50 kg • m/s to the left
3. 10 kg • m/s to the right
4. 10 kg • m/s to the left
5. none of the above

You are testing a new car (which has only crash test dummies on
board). Consider two ways to slow the car from a speed of
90 km/h (56 mi/h) to a complete stop:
(i) You let the car slam into a wall, bringing it to a sudden stop.
(ii) You let the car plow into a giant tub of gelatin so that it
comes to a gradual halt.
In which case is there a greater impulse of the net force on the
car? 1. in case (i)
2. in case (ii)
3. the impulse is the same in both cases

Fred (75 kg) and Jane (50 kg) are on skates facing each other. Jane then pushes Fred w/ a constant force F = 45 N for a time t = 3 seconds. Who will be moving fastest at the end of the push?

F=0
Momentum is “Conserved” meaning it can
not be created nor destroyed
– Can be transferred
Total Momentum does not change with time.
