CHURCH COVENANT (to be read on first Sunday in lieu of Mission & Vision Statement)

Leader: Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession

of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of

God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body, in Christ.

Congregation: We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement

of this Church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote it’s prosperity and spirituality; to sustain it’s worship, ordinances,

discipline and doctrine; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of

the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

What is the Vision Center that Kingdom Building Minis-

try is so buzzed about? How do I get connected? In-

volved?

that can aide us in following God’s

plan for the VC!

The Vision Center is a community based project to provide

support and mentorship to the children and young adults in

the economically challenged Westend of Sierra Vista, AZ.

Mission—St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church a community

of called, born again, and baptized followers of Jesus Christ,

stands on the word of God and proclaims God's truth through

ministry, education, fellowship and worship in order to build

the Kingdom of God. (Adopted 4/12/08).

Company Overview—The Vision Center is St. Paul's primary

facility to facilitate a master planned program that will rally the

residents of Sierra Vista & Vicinity, with an emphasis on the

West End of the city, to promote Asset Based Community Devel-

opment in partnership with other civic, social, and faith based

organizations in compliance with EEO and Affirmative Action

guidelines. Although the church will take the lead in organizing

the activities in the Vision Center, it will rely heavily on the ac-

tive participation of the community-at-large to suggest the on-

going, life changing, and impacting programs to generate per-

sonal and neighborhood transformation.

Description—The Vision Center which will be located at 333 N.

Carmichael Ave, Sierra Vista, AZ is a community based project

being headed by St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. The Vision

Center will be a multi-purpose building that will provide support

and mentorship to the children and young adults of the commu-

nity particularly in the economically challenge Westend of Sierra

Vista, AZ. This support will be given in a safe and secure envi-

ronment. Contributions are needed and welcomed!

Thinking About My Purpose—Day 21

It’s my responsibility to protect the unity of my church

Each year, when we start talking about Lent and Easter, we hear a familiar

question from some Bible Gateway visitors: What is Lent? Is it an official

Christian holiday? Was it instituted in the Bible? What does it mean to ob-

serve Lent, and are Christians “required” to do so? For the interested, we’ll

try to answer those questions here.

Lent is the span of time in the church calendar that starts with Ash

Wednesday and ends with Easter Sunday. Ash Wednesday commemorates

the beginning of Jesus’ 40-day fasting and temptation in the desert, and

Easter Sunday commemorates Jesus’ resurrection from the grave after his

crucifixion.

Lent, then, is generally observed as a time for Christians to reflect, repent, and pray as a way of preparing their hearts

for Easter. It is commonly observed by many Christian denominations—Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, and others—

although not every Christian church or denomination does so. Because Lent is not officially instituted in Scripture,

observing it isn’t in any way a “requirement” of Christianity. However, Christians from many different theological

persuasions choose to observe it as a way of focusing their thoughts on Jesus Christ during the Easter season.

How does one observe Lent? It differs from person to person and church to church, but some of the things Christians

opt to do to observe Lent include:

On the first day of Lent (Ash Wednesday), some Christians mark their foreheads with ash as a symbol of sorrow

and mourning over their sin. (See Job 42 for an example of ash used as a symbol of repentance.)

Special worship services, or additions to regular worship services, that focus in various ways on man’s need for

repentance. This often takes the form of extra Scripture readings and prayer.

Some Christians choose to give up a habit or behavior during Lent as an exercise in prayerful self-denial. This

might range from something as simple as not drinking soda during Lent to a full-blown program of fasting.

Some Christians commit to a special devotional activity during Lent—for example, daily Scripture reading, regu-

lar prayer for a specific person or topic throughout Lent, or volunteer work in their community.

The choice to observe Lent is a personal one—the whole point is to focus your heart and mind on Jesus during the

journey to Easter. There’s no requirement to observe it, nor should you feel guilted into participating. However, mil-

lions of Christians around the world do observe Lent each year; if you’ve never done so, why not give it a try?

Whether you observe Lent in a small or major way, you’ll be amazed at what happens when you devote a part of

each day to reflecting on Jesus Christ and God’s Word.

Parking of your vehicle—In order to prevent vehicle accidents before, during, or after service, we ask that you do not parallel park behind

another vehicle, and please adhere to the “no parking” zone at all times;

No cell phone calls or text messaging sounds being heard during worship. Please place on silent or turn-off;

No food, drink (including bottled water), gum chewing, or eating in the Sanctuary. A water fountain and, both men and women’s restrooms,

is located in the rear of the church and may be accessed at Your convenience. Water is provided for those speaking; and

Babies. Parents please make sure used diapers are properly disposed of. A changing table is located on the 2nd floor in the computer Lab

(temporary location) for your convenience.

Lastly, our Ushers’ Ministry is here to assist; please let them know if you need anything while in this House of Worship.

ST. PAUL FOOD PANTRY DRIVE—

HELP feed the Hungry via the St. Paul Food Pantry.

“For I was hungry, and you fed me….Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when

did we ever see you hungry and feed you?....... When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?.... And the King will say,

‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you

were doing it to me!’

It is suggested, as a family ministry, to remember those

less fortunate than you, by purchasing an item or two to

contribute to the food pantry when you do your grocery

shopping. Also, gift cards for $10 or less for a local gro-

cery store are great items for families needing milk, eggs,

meat, etc.

We are looking for a few good volunteers to help keep the

food pantry clean, current dates on contributions, etc.

Expected Prices are as follows:

$60.00 per person for motor coach ride which covers bus seat, driver, miles, fuel, hours, bus driver’s room and park admission fee.
