WELCOME - ANNOUNCEMENTS Stephen Price

INTROIT O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee Gladden/Smith Jan Hinchman, mezzo-soprano

* CALL TO WORSHIP

One: Creator God, who lifted up the mountains and formed the dry land; All: whose hands shaped us out of the dust of the earth; One: who formed the soils and made this earth a place of beauty and abundance: All: we give you thanks for the gift of creation. One: Create in us such a sense of wonder and delight, in this and all your gifts, that we might receive them with gratitude, care for them with love, and generously share them with all your creatures. All: Let us worship the God of all good things.

* HYMN 36 For the Fruit of All Creation AR HYD Y NOS

* CALL TO CONFESSION

One: The proof of God’s amazing love is this: While we were sinners, Christ died for us. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Trusting in God’s faithfulness and compassion, let us confess our sin before God and one another. Let us pray.

* PRAYER OF CONFESSION

All: Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways Through Christ, our Lord, we pray...

* SILENT CONFESSION

*Those who are able, please stand

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP When someone you love dies, it can be hard to understand your often complex – and painful – thoughts and feelings. The Central Grief Group meets every other Monday night to provide support with and for those who have experienced loss. We meet from 6.30-8:00pm at the church. We are currently working through a book study: Understanding Your Grief: Ten Essential Touchstones for Finding Hope and Healing your Heart by Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D. If you would like more information please contact our Parish Associate, Debbie Foster [email protected]

Upcoming Special Event for Grief Group On Tuesday September 20 we will be attending the annual Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes Seminar at the TD Convention Center. This year’s presentation is: “What Have You Done for YOU Lately? Stress Management for Grievers. The speaker is Michelle Post. We will leave Central at 4:00pm and stop for a quick dinner on the way to Greenville. Allyson Helvie has agreed to lead the trip. Please call the church office or contact our Parish Associate to sign-up.

MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON A luncheon for people who have been visiting Central Presbyterian Church and would like to learn more will be held after worship on Sunday, September 11. SUNDAY SCHOOL!

9:30 - 10:15am : Parents please make sure to pick up your child on time from Sunday School! This week’s lesson is about Joseph and his

amazing coat of many colors. At home: Talk about how we should treat our family, make friendship bracelets using lots of

colors to exchange with other family members as a sign of the love that unites the family.

WORSHIP CLASS FOR 1ST GRADERS: Our Children’s Church Program is for children

ages 3-1st Grade. Once they begin 1st grade they begin transitioning back into the pews with their parents! To help with this transition we will be

providing 3 classes for your 1st graders to help teach them about Worshipping in “Big Church” September 11 - 1st graders will go to Children’s Church like normal and stay with Henri & Amy to start the conversation about Worship! They

will join the rest of the group back for snacks and come back to you during the last hymn like

normal. September 18 & 25th – 1st graders will be

meeting during Sunday School in the Sanctuary. Henri & Amy will walk through parts of Worship and have children engage in the

building! During Worship, they will have them sitting with them and helpers in the balcony!

In addition to this, we are also offering a class for parents of 1st graders!

September 25 – Parents of 1st graders will meet in the Sanctuary during SS as well. We will be

giving you great tips on how to make it their first year in the pew! We hope you will join us as we

prepare you and your family for Worship! Please let Amy know if you and your family are

planning on attending!

Adult Classes at The Bridge 6:15-7:00pm September 21 – October 26 “Get Off My Toes, Jesus!” The old expression, “You stepped on my toes today,” indicates being uncomfortable at some aspect of your behavior or attitude being exposed that may need to be examined. Jesus was a master at doing this through parables – stories with a hook. Mandy Davis and David Bailey will lead this class in a study of six of these parables with a 21st century flavor. Busy Hands Each week we will engage in hands on crafts and devotional time together. This fall, the Busy Hands Workshop will join the Flock in supporting the Black Sheep Knitters' "Hats and scarves on Statues" project by learning a simple way to make these items on knitting looms. The hats and scarves we make will be given to people in the community who need them. Kathleen will be happy to demonstrate using a knitting loom if you want to see one before you sign up. High School and Adults are welcome. Elementary age children may attend with a parent. Leader: Kathleen-Egger Price.
