The Moorestown Board of Education re-organization meeting on Jan. 7 welcomedsome new faces to the board. The night alsosaw the board make a decision on whowould be the new president and vice presi-dent.
Former vice president Kathy Golden-berg was appointed president and DavidWeinstein was appointed vice president. The board welcomed new members PeterPalko, Ann Marie Reyher and Caryn Shaw,
who were elected in November.Taking over for Don Mishler, who was
board president and had been on the boardfor around 25 years, is Goldenberg, whohas been on the board since 2007 andserved as vice president since 2011.
Goldenberg, a resident of Moorestownsince 1992, has had her two children attendMoorestown Township Public Schoolsfrom kindergarten through graduation. She has been a part of the Home andSchool Association, Transportation andSafety Committee, Technology Committee,Curriculum Committee, Budget and Fi-nance Committee and others.
Now as president, Goldenberg feels hon-ored to take the role and, being passionateabout education, expects to continue thelegacy of Moorestown in a positive way.
Im very honored. Im passionate about
our public education within the state. Imvery active in Trenton with our GardenState Coalition of schools, to make suresuburban districts like ours are able to pro-vide students with the very best education, and Im very excited to be a part of this and
to continue to be. Ive been volunteeringwith the Moorestown township publicschools for 20 years. Its a passion of mine,Goldenberg said.
For the future, Goldenberg wants herfocus to be on getting better and providingmore opportunities for every child.
Weinstein was first elected to the boardin 2009. Honored for being named vice pres-ident, he too hopes to continueMoorestowns legacy and only improve onit.
I am honored to be the vice president ofthe Moorestown Board of Education and I
want to continue to provide the high levelof education that Moorestown has beenrecognized for many years, and want tofind ways to make education in
The nearby town of Burlington
Township was shaken to its
core last week when news was
released of two high school students
who hung themselves days apart.
Two friends, a 15-year-old freshman
and an 18-year-old senior who both at-
tended Burlington Township HighSchool, were found hanged inside their
homes only four days apart. Two days
before the senior was found, he spoke
at his friends celebration of life.
News such as this is bone chilling.
We feel deeply for the families, friends,
fellow students, teachers, administra-
tors and members of the community
who have more questions than an-
swers right now. Even though this did
not happen in our town, it is news that
hits hard at our homes.
Life is fragile, that we all know, but
thats never more clear than at times
like these, when the lives of kids are
lost, taken way too early for reasons we
wont understand.
At times like these, we are reminded
of the saying, it takes a village to
raise a child. A childs life is molded
not just by his or her parents, siblings
and extended families, but also their
friends, school community, police offi-
cers, mayors, crossing guards and
other members of the community. And
it is the job of these other members of
the community of us to remind our
kids just how great life is.
Life cannot be taken for granted.
Life is precious. Life is worth living.
According to the National Associa-
tion of School Psychologists, suicide isthe third leading cause of death among
youth between 10 and 19. But it is pre-
ventable. If you or someone you know
is in need of help, there are resources
available. Check out NASP on the web
at www.nasponline.com. The National
Suicide Prevention Lifeline is (800) 273-

Give your kids, your siblings, your
nieces and nephews and your other
loved youths a hug tonight. We know
we will.

Moorestown better now and forour future, said Weinstein.
New members of the boardwere honored to be elected by res-idents in November and are excit-ed to help where they can.
I feel honored. My wife and Ihave been involved very muchwith the school system, so it is anhonor to represent everyone. AndI feel confident in my abilities,Palko said.
Im very excited to serve thecommunity, Shaw said.Palkos main focus is to help
maintain the levels of theschools. Being an engineer andcontractor, Palko can bring a lotof practical experience to thetable, especially with the con-struction that will be going on inthe near future.
I think it is mostly fiscal re-sponsibility and at the same timeproviding the highest degree ofservice possible, Palko said.
Shaw, a mother of three chil-dren in three different schools inthe district, is part of the Rev-enue and Generation Committeeand serves as the first vice presi-dent of the Home and School As-sociation.
Im very involved in revenuegeneration, so I think that is oneof the benefits I can bring. Alsobringing parents views to theboard is really important. I have a
pulse on parents who are very in-volved and can see how thingsstrategically can link and howthey can be implemented in
schools, so I think bringing thatperspective is really important.
Reyner could not be reachedfor comment.

versity, she was a scholarshipmember of the college choir anda member of Naturally Sharp, aselect group of 16 singers chosenby audition.
After graduating from Drexelwith a combined bachelors andmasters program in education,Napolitano moved to Moorestownwith her husband Vinny. Gettingto know South Jersey throughfriends at her college as well asthrough her husbands job, as di-rector of constituencies for Gov.
Christie, the Napolitanos decidedto settle in Burlington County, ul-timately Moorestown.
Moorestown was the obviouschoice. They have a great commu-nity. Its a place we could see our-selves settling down and one dayraising a family, Napolitanosaid.
The Napolitanos first lived inthe Lenola District atMoorestown Woods before mov-ing to a west Moorestown homewhere they reside today.
Napolitano got involved withthe Republican County Commit-tee, but it wasnt until she startedto speak up about artificial turfthat she considered running for
office. She didnt believe in usingopen space money to build athlet-ic fields with artificial turf. It was
a split decision within both par-ties, but ultimately the townshipopted to use other funding meth-ods. Her involvement and opin-ions made people notice her andask her to run for a council seat.
Many people appreciated mypoint of view and my opinions, sothey encouraged me to considerrunning, Napolitano said.
Thus led her to running in 2012when she was elected to her posi-tion as council member. Duringher time on the council, Napoli-tano has made the Lenola districta major focus. As mayor, she hascommitted to working on Lenolaand building it up this year.
It was my first home. I noticedit wasnt getting the kind of atten-tion Main Street was getting. Itneeded and deserved a little morehelp, Napolitano said.
When Napolitano isnt spend-ing her time with various com-
mittees in town, she is either atwork or home. During the week-days, Napolitano is a designer of
e-learning modules for an inter-national data and informationfirm in Philadelphia. Not being afan of coffee or in need of caf-feine, she likes to have tea whileat work.
Im not a wake up and havecaffeine kind of person, Napoli-tano said.
After work and committee orcouncil meetings, Napolitanolikes to come home and cook din-ner for herself and her husband. And, after that, she likes to relaxand watch television with herhusband and adopted dog Delilah. Some of her favorite shows in-clude House of Cards, Down-ton Abbey, Game of Thronesand Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Napolitano also likes to readwhen she can. Liking a combina-tion of non-fiction and fiction, she recently finished Jim Gaffi-gans book about his life and is
reading the Jason Bourne series.Although she doesnt have a lot
of free time, some of her hobbies
include getting back into the per-forming arts, cooking and diningout, and recently taking up pho-tography. Napolitano got backinto theater, performing in thelast two MoorArts summer pro-ductions, because she really lovesit. She said her favorite part isgetting to know the cast and herinteractions with them. She alsothinks it is fun to enter into thatworld for a little while and help tocreate that world.
Napolitano said she likeseverything about food and doesnthave a particular favorite. In re-gard to the camera, it is some-thing she just recently picked upand is testing out on the week-ends when it is a nice day or whenshe isnt seeing friends or goingout to eat.
Im kind of messing aroundwith it. I dont know where it isgoing to go, but for now it is fun,she said.
Im busy, but I like it that way,
she said.
