More Public Schools Award Diplomas to Large Classes of Graduates Diplomas Won By 166 Girls At Bay Ridge High School Certificates and Medals Presented by Principal Turner —Address by Dr. John L. Tildsley. The twentieth commencement of Bay Ridge High School, Sixty-seventh street and Fourth avenue, was celebrated last night in the auditorium of the school. One hundred and sixty- six girls received diplomas for a four-year general course. An address was delivered by Dr. John L. Tildsley, district super- intendent. The honor pupils of the graduating class were seated on the platform. Miss Isabella P. Coffin, grad,e ad- visor, presented the graduates to Miss Kate E. Turner, principal, who conferred the degrees and honors. The salute to the flag was led by Miss Alice Cadorini, president of the general organization; Miss Dorothy Mossi, secretary of the general or- ganization, and Miss Louise Eicke, president of the senior class. The musical programme was furnished by the Bay Ridge High School Or- chestra, of which Eugene C. Morris Is director. Medals were presented to the fol- lowing girls: Marie Kelley, gold medal for highest average for four years; Harriet Lange, Proper me- morial gold medal for excellence In history; Ethel M. Johnson, St. Gaudens medal for fine draftsman- ship; Louise Elcke, Alfred C. S. 179, Avenue C, between East Second and East Third streets, were held yesterday. One of the features was a one-act playlet, "Spreading the News," in which the following participated: Ernest Kalik, Kate Licata, Nathan. Baral, Samuel Wall, Milton Hornsfein, Martin Nadk\ Evelyn Moses, Lenore Reiser, George Schaefer and Saul Feldman. A, picture was presented to the school on behalf of the graduates by Maxwell Rosa. The exercises were held at the school auditorium in Park place near Sixth avenue, which is the largest of its kind in the Borough. Ex-Senator William *».. Calder an old friend of Rt. Rev. Mgr. Edward W. McCarty. LL.D. pastor of St. Augustine's addressed the graduates. All the members of the crack relay team which gathered in so many trophies at the various inter- scholastic meets Were graduated. Joseph McCabe who in the Poly Prep meet broke all previous school records by covering 220 yards in 22 2-5 seconds, and Thomas Fogarty whose Jump at the inter-scholastic meet held recently at Troy, estab- lished M. record of 10 feet 7 inches were among those who received di- plomas. Brennan The Maxwell Training School for Teachers, Park place and Nostrand avenue, graduated a glass of three hundred students last evening at commencement exercises, held in the assembly hall. - After a processional march and presentation of diplomas and certificates by John Greene, a member of the faculty, a short address was given by Miss Emma L. Johnston, principal of the school, at the close of which she took the opportunity of presenting the Arthur R. Campbell memorial to a member of the graduating class, J. Vincent Keogh. The Glee Club, under ,the direc- tion of C. M. Pickells, proved a pleasant diversion between the ad- dresses. The selection "To Spring," by Grieg, was especially well, re- ceived. Dr. Gustaye Straubenmuller, as- sociate superintendent of schools, M^S the one chosen to give the grad- uating address because of his great popularity with the student body and his ability to entertain as well as instruct. Dr. Straubenmuller's re- marks were concerned with the "Ro- mance of Teaching," and he proved that the successful pedagogue was one who employed humor, love, charm, surprise and imagination in his work, and "taught his subjects as if he were taking his children into a beautiful garden, full of beauty, surprises and gladsome scenes." He closed his address by impressinc on the minds of his lis- teners the importance of combining joy with modern methods and a good sporting spirit. At Bay Ridge High School Certificates and Medals Presented by Principal Turner

The twentieth commencement of Bay Ridge High School, Sixty-seventh street and Fourth avenue, was celebrated last night in the auditorium of the school. One hundred and sixty-six girls received diplomas for a four-year general course. An address was delivered by Dr. John L. Tildsley, district super­intendent.

The honor pupils of the graduating class were seated on the platform. Miss Isabella P. Coffin, grad,e ad­visor, presented the graduates to Miss Kate E. Turner, principal, who conferred the degrees and honors. The salute to the flag was led by Miss Alice Cadorini, president of the general organization; Miss Dorothy Mossi, secretary of the general or­ganization, and Miss Louise Eicke, president of the senior class. The musical programme was furnished by the Bay Ridge High School Or­chestra, of which Eugene C. Morris Is director.

Medals were presented to the fol­lowing girls: Marie Kelley, gold medal for highest average for four years; Harriet Lange, Proper me­morial gold medal for excellence In history; Ethel M. Johnson, St. Gaudens medal for fine draftsman­ship; Louise Elcke, Alfred C. Bos-som medal for co-operation in gov­ernment; Marie Kelly, New York Classical Club medal for four years' excellence in Latin; Edna Slatnick, Alliance Francaise medal for excel­lence in French; Lillian O'Neill, American Association of Teachers of Spanish medal for excellence in Spanish, and Anna Novendstern, sil­ver medal for excellence in typewrit­ing and office practice.

between East Second and East Third streets, were held yesterday. One of the features was a one-act playlet, "Spreading the News," in which the following participated: Ernest Kalik, Kate Licata, Nathan. Baral, Samuel Wall, Milton Hornsfein, Martin Nadk\ Evelyn Moses, Lenore Reiser, George Schaefer and Saul Feldman.

St. Augustine's High School last night graduated the largest and probably the most i romlnc-:'. class in its history. The exercises were held at the school auditorium in Park place near Sixth avenue, which is the largest of its kind in the Borough.

Ex-Senator William *».. Calder an old friend of Rt. Rev. Mgr. Edward W. McCarty. LL.D. pastor of St. Augustine's addressed the graduates.

All the members of the crack relay team which gathered in so many trophies at the various inter-scholastic meets Were graduated.

Joseph McCabe who in the Poly Prep meet broke all previous school records by covering 220 yards in 22 2-5 seconds, and Thomas Fogarty whose Jump at the inter-scholastic meet held recently a t Troy, estab­lished M. record of 10 feet 7 inches were among those who received di­plomas.

The graduates Included the fleet-footed champions of the cinderpath William Miles, Joseph Slevin and Ed­ward Stone who added many trophies to the school collection during the year. The star basket-ball team also lost four of its most prominent members by the graduation of Wil­liam Maloney, James Murry. Edward O'Connor and Bernard Cunni"~'.i im. Several collegiate scholarships were won by the graduates.

The Maxwell Training School for Teachers, Park place and Nostrand avenue, graduated a glass of three hundred students last evening at commencement exercises, held in the assembly hall. •

- After a processional march and presentation of diplomas and certificates by John Greene, a member of the faculty, a short address was given by Miss Emma L. Johnston, principal of the school, at the close of which she took the opportunity of presenting the Arthur R. Campbell memorial to a member of the graduating class, J. Vincent Keogh.

The Glee Club, under ,the direc­tion of C. M. Pickells, proved a pleasant diversion between the ad­dresses. The selection "To Spring," by Grieg, was especially well, re­ceived.

Dr. Gustaye Straubenmuller, as­sociate superintendent of schools, M^S the one chosen to give the grad­uating address because of his great popularity with the student body and his ability to entertain as well as instruct. Dr. Straubenmuller's re­marks were concerned with the "Ro­mance of Teaching," and he proved that the successful pedagogue was one who employed humor, love, charm, surprise and imagination in his work, and "taught his subjects as if he were taking his children into a beautiful garden, full of beauty, surprises and gladsome scenes." He closed his address by impressinc on the minds of his lis­teners the importance of combining joy with modern methods and a good sporting spirit.

The "Alma Mater," sung, by the entire student body and graduating class, followed by the salute to the cotok's. ended the exercises. ;

Th# Rt. Rev. Thomas E. Molloy, Bishop of Brooklyn, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws last, night at the sixty-sixth annual com­mencement of St. Francis College and High School. Bishop Mplloy who is an alumnus o.f St. Francis College, presented the diplomas to the graduates.

Three others had the same degree conferred upon them by the Rev. Brother David, .Q.S.F., president of the Third Order of St. Francis. They were the Rt. Rev. Michael G. Flan-nery, rector of St. Paul's R. C. Church; Joseph T. Lilly and Harry T. Woods, president of the college alumni.

Nineteen college men were award­ed the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Raphael J. Di Napoli, Sylvester A. Marsh and William W. Smith, M.D., were among the number. Certifi­cates fpr special college course were given Stephen C. Blanchfield, Rob r ert E. Crowell, Hugh J. Garvey, Austin E. Hughes and Wjlliam F. Toomey.

Following the presentation of diplomas to the graduates, Leo J. Hickey addressed the young men. The Rev. Brothers Jarlath and David were in charge of the ceremonies, while the Rev. Brother Columba as­sisted them. Monsignor George Kaupert was present.

One of the features of the evening was an address bg- Patrick I. Flan-nelly, his topic being "Freedom m Education." Edward M. Farrell also spoke on "A Menace to A.merican Democracy." The ' valedictory was delivered by Sylvester A. Marsh.
