MORNING WORSHIP February 4, 2018, 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. PRELUDE Praeludium and Fugue in D Major Dietrick Buxtehude John Gearhart, Organist INTROIT Feast of Victory Antiphon Richard Hillert Sanctuary Choir arr. Dr. Terry Morris Cynthia Douglas, Choir Director THE GATHERING Paula Niz Missions Coordinator *GREETING *HYMN O Word of God Incarnate arr. Terry Morris O Word of God incarnate, O Wisdom from on high, O Truth unchanged, unchanging, O Light of our dark sky: We praise You for the radiance that from the hallowed page, A lantern to our footsteps, shines on from age to age. The church from You, our Savior, received the gift divine, And still that light is lifted o'er all the earth to shine. It is the sacred vessel where gems of truth are stored; It is the heav’n-drawn picture of Christ, the living Word. The Scripture is a banner before God's host unfurled; It is a shining beacon above the darkling world. It is the chart and compass that o'er life's surging tide, Mid mists and rocks and quicksands, to you, O Christ, will guide. O make Your church, dear Savior, a lamp of purest gold, To bear before the nations Your true light as of old. O teach Your wandering pilgrims by this their path to trace, Till, clouds and darkness ended, they see You face to face. *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Paula Niz I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *GLORIA PATRI #70 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. *CHRISTS INVITATION Rev. Bill Allen Leader: Christ our Lord invites to His table all who love Him, who earnestly repent of their sins and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our sins before God and one another. People: Merciful God, we confess that we have not always loved You with our whole hearts. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done Your will; we have broken Your law; we have rebelled against Your love; we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Leader: Hear the good news: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! People: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! Glory to God. Amen. *CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE Lamb of God #2113 Your only Son, no sin to hide, but You have sent Him from Your side, To walk upon this guilty sod, and to become the Lamb of God. O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God, I love the holy Lamb of God! O wash me in His precious blood – my Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Rev. Bill Allen *HYMN Wonderful Words of Life #600 Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life; Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life; Words of life and beauty teach me faith and duty. Refrain Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life. Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.
