Michelle’s Message Kia ora Mosston families and Naumai to Mackenzie, Izzy, Milly, Morgan and Rory who have all started at Mosston School this week.

Welcome back Aimee Loveridge our part time teacher and sports coordinator this term. Aimee will be teaching in Room 2 and 3. A big thank you to Heidi Barnett and Alison Westcott who filled this role while Aimee was on leave.

Term 4 promises to be a very busy term with many exciting happenings as we head towards the Christmas break. This includes athletics, the Learning Expo, a book fair, Tough Kids Challenge, Jack and the Beanstalk show, swimming and Family Fun Night. We will also be reporting on your child’s progress and achievement closer to the end of the term.

I hope you had a lovely holiday and enjoyed spending time with your children. We were fortunate to have some lovely weather. The staff all attended a teacher seminar in week 2 on Modern Learning Environments and the thinking behind these. You will have noticed that teachers have started to collaborate with each other and teach together. This is a forward thinking initiative in education at the moment and we are excited about the opportunities it will bring to Mosston School.

A huge Mosston thank you to our families and staff who helped us to build the new adventure playground on Saturday….Bob Casey, Nicki and Glen Spink, Jason and Shonelle Channings, Tony Hooper, Matt and Taya Stoneman, Andrew Taylor, Nicole Moana, Craig and Fi Campbell, Michelle Palazzo, Donna Strachan, Diane and Nigel Alexander, Trevor and Brad Watson and our caretaker Bene. We appreciated you giving up your Saturday for us and know the playground will be enjoyed greatly.

Congratulations to our clever students who participated in the ICAS literacy examination. Matthew received a High Distinction and Philp a Distinction. We also had a number of students gain credits and merits. Well done Kaitlin, Caitlin, Philip, Matthew, Glenn, Olivia and Maddison (absent).

Mosston School took part in the national Shakeout yesterday and we practised our earthquake procedures. Our lock down drill in the last week of last term also went well and we received positive feedback from Constable Miller on our practises. Regular practise for such events will ensure we are well prepared and kept as safe as possible if an event should occur.

Art week was a great success and we look forward to sharing the results of this with you at our Learning Expo and Book Fair to be held in week 6.

We are very proud of Miss Addenbrooke who has been selected for the Wanganui Representative netball team and enjoyed a successful national netball tournament in the holidays. Well Done Hayley! Enjoy your weekend and the warm weather. Michelle [email protected]

Parenting Tip - rules for everyone

In a step or blended family, one of the biggest challenges for all involved is bringing two separate sets of family rules and expectations together. Here are a few things to remember to help this process go as smoothly as possible:

Understand the way different families do things isn't 'right' or ‘wrong’. It’s not about finding the perfect rule, more about finding a rule that we can all live with.

Make an effort to have regular chats with your partner about what's working, and what isn't. Try to keep these talks positive and solution-focused.

Remember the children will probably struggle with this process for lots of different reasons. If you and your partner agree to be consistent and let everyone know about your expectations for behaviour, it will be much easier for them to make the changes.

Healthy Lunch boxes Our lucky lunch box awards this assembly went to Zoe H and Keisha C. Each day the duty teacher chooses a healthy lunch box and two winners are drawn each assembly and they receive a free swim and slide pass from the Splash Centre.

Mosston School Parents’ Group Join the Mosston School Parents Group Facebook page to keep up to date with parents Group happenings.

Hats and Shoes In Terms 1 and 4 children must wear hats in the playground as part of Mosston being a sun smart school. Children who do not have a navy brimmed hat will be asked to play in the shade. We have a number of children not wearing the correct black shoes. Please support us to keep our uniform looking clean, smart and tidy. Shoes must be black only with black laces and stitching. Thank you to all those families who have brought the correct summer sandals :)

!!URGENT!! Touch Players and Junior Cricketers Needed We urgently need players for our year 3/4 touch team or we will have to withdraw this team from the competition. The fee is $25 per player and arrangements can be made about paying this off if needed. Also we could do with some more Year 3/4 cricketers. If your child is interested please email Aimee on [email protected] or call at the office on Monday and talk to Sue about it.
