Cathedral & Adoration Chapel Hours

As a reminder to parishioners and visitors alike, the Cathedral doors will be locked Monday through Friday, following the 12:10 p.m. Mass (closing at approximately 2:00 p.m.). For those who wish to pray later in the day, the Adoration Chapel is open until 7:00 p.m. Access to the Chapel is through the north door on Clinton Avenue. On weekends the entire Cathedral is open until the completion of that day’s final Mass.

“Mass Transit” Bus Service

St. Agnes Cathedral offers bus service to parishioners who are unable to drive to Sunday Mass. Our “Mass Transit” mini-bus provides service to our 9:30 a.m. Mass. Please leave your name, address and phone number with the rectory office if you need a ride.

Baptism Once a month on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of

the month at 1:45 p.m. Contact the Rectory Office to arrange for interview,

ceremony and registration for required Baptism Preparation Class (for first time parents). Spanish Baptisms take place before the 7:30 p.m. Spanish Mass on Saturday evening. Please call the Rectory Office for more information.

———— Marriage Arrangements should be made at least 12 months in

advance and prior to making reception plans. Call the Rectory for an appointment with the priest or deacon you wish to witness your wedding. All couples are required to attend Pre-Cana.

Pastoral Care of the Sick Priests and Extraordinary Ministers of

Communion are available to bring Holy Communion to parishioners confined to home. Please call the Rectory Office to make arrangements. Those who are seriously ill should request a priest for Anointing of the Sick. The Anointing of the Sick is also celebrated each Monday morning during the 9:00 a.m. Mass. If you would like to be anointed, please sit in the first row of the baptismal font transept.

Jesus is waiting for you! You are invited to join us every Friday for Adoration and some

quiet reflection and prayer. Exposition takes place following the 9:00 a.m. Mass

in the Holy Cross Chapel on the 1st floor of the Ministry Building and concludes with

Benediction at 3:00 p.m.

On the first Friday night of each month we also invite you for Nocturnal Adoration.

St. Monica Parents Intercession Prayer Group meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Holy Cross Chapel, located in the Parish Ministries building. Our next meeting will be on December 20th. For more information call Mary at 375-0738.

Rectory Holiday Schedule

Please note that the Rectory Office will be open on Monday, December 24th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and closed on Christmas Day. It will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26th. The Office will be open New Year’s Eve, Monday, December 31st, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will be closed on New Year’s Day, reopening at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2nd.

~Third Week of Advent~

O God, see how

your people faithfully await the feast of the Lord’s Nativity,

enable us, we pray, to attain the joys of so great a salvation,

and to celebrate them always

with solemn worship and glad rejoicing.

As we enter the third week of Advent, the students will be praying for their parents. They will focus their attention on the virtue of JOY as they wait in JOYFUL anticipation for the birth of our Lord. On Monday, December 17th the students in class 2-1 and 2-2 will perform their Nativity Play at 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Center. On Tuesday, December 18th class 2-3 and 2-4 will perform their play at 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Center. The Experienced Band Christmas Concert is on Thursday, December 20th at 1:30 p.m. in the Lower Hall. Please join me on Friday, December 21st for our annual Christmas Para-liturgy at 1:30 p.m. in the Cathedral. Students in Grades K-8 will be participating through song and prayer. School will dismiss at 2:40 p.m., and the students will officially begin Christmas Recess. Aftercare will NOT be in effect.

Weekly Bible Study

Parishioners and guests are invited to gather once a week to study the Bible with our moderator, Fr. Seth. Meetings will be on Wednesdays from 9:45 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. in the

Youth Room on the 2nd floor of the Ministry Building. Coffee and refreshments will be provided. There is no need to register; join us as your schedule allows. There will be NO meeting on December 26th. Meetings will resume on January 2, 2019.

Outreach

We are once again collecting new

Christmas toys for the needy children of

our parish. All donations may be dropped off at

the Outreach Office by December 18th. In addition,

what might be most useful and practical for teenagers

would be gift cards to Old Navy, Best Buy, Modell’s,

Target, Kohls and Payless Shoes. Also, in families

where there is sickness or unemployment or single

moms, gift cards to King Kullen are most appreciated.

Your kindness will make this a much brighter Christmas

for those in need.

2018 Giving Tree

This is the last weekend for the Giving Tree. Please make sure your gifts are brought to church today. Thank you for your generosity and for making the Giving Tree such a success.

Flowers for

the Cathedral

and the Homebound

You will notice that in your packet of contribution envelopes, there is an envelope for flowers for Christmas. In addition to using this collection to decorate the Cathedral for Christmas, we would like to send a poinsettia plant to all our ill and homebound parishioners. Many of these people have worshipped in the Cathedral for years and are now confined to their homes. Your generous response to this collection will help to defray the cost of flowers and plants. If you know of anyone who is ill or homebound, please call the rectory at 766-0205 with the name, address, and phone number of the person.

Special Needs Mass

We will celebrate a Mass for special needs children and their families on Saturday, December 22nd at 5:00 p.m. in the Lower Hall of Monsignor Melton Auditorium. This area is handicapped accessible, allowing families with children who have developmental disabilities access to the Lower Hall to celebrate God’s presence in their lives.

Under Both Species

In the coming weeks, we will have two chalices available at the 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m.. and 11:00 a.m. Sunday Masses. The stations for these chalices will be in the front of the Cathedral. As you may know, we have been

offering four chalices at these Masses. This change has been necessitated by not having enough Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to cover all the assignments in the three week cycle of scheduling. Please know that anyone who feels they are being called to this ministry should speak to Father Bill. We are most grateful for those who do serve as Extraordinary Ministers as well as everyone who serves at our Masses.

March for Life January 18, 2019

Please join the Respect Life Committee at St. Agnes for this year’s March for Life in Washington DC. This peaceful demonstration witnesses for the 55 million babies that have been murdered by abortion since 1973 and has been described the greatest human rights violation of our time. We also protest the more recent development of the drive to legalize euthanasia in our states. St. Agnes Cathedral will, again, provide a bus on Friday, January 18, 2019 for pilgrims from the Rockville Centre area. This demonstration for life continues to make a difference in protecting innocent unborn children from the evil of abortion. Roe vs. Wade originally allowed abortions in the 1st trimester of pregnancy and has now been interpreted to include any time during pregnancy, up to immediately before delivery. This is not a Women’s Health issue as abortion advocates proclaim, it is an issue that defines the dignity of the human person. Please consider joining the hundreds of thousands of people going to Washington D.C. on Friday, January 18, 2019. Our bus leaves from the Cathedral at 6:00 a.m. after a 5:30 a.m. mass and blessing. We will return to the Cathedral prior to 11:00 p.m. that evening. Talbot House If you or someone you love is having problems due to drinking alcohol and/or using drugs, Catholic Charities/Talbot House is a facility for males and females over the age of 18 and is a voluntary Chemical Dependence Crisis Center for withdrawal from alcohol and/or drugs. We assist individuals in entering into long-term treatment after their initial withdrawal phase. The medical and clinical staff is present 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and help to determine the kind of care the person needs, to begin their journey of recovery. An outpatient facility in Commack can be reached at (631) 543-6200. Family members can also receive counseling services, regardless of their loved one being in treatment or not.
