Exercise Your “Will Power” Help provide for the future of our
parish. Remember Mother Cabrini
Church in your will.
Your support of Mother Cabrini Parish
. . .even in these trying times!
Remember Mother Cabrini Parish needs your
support now more than ever. These are trying times for all of us and our parish income is
slowly recovering. Mother Cabrini Parish continues to have bills regarding salaries, basic
utilities, property insurances, etc. To the best of your ability, please remember
your parish. It would be most helpful if you would either mail your weekly
offertory gift or drop it in the door mail slot, located on the side porch of the
parish office. I thank all those parishioners who have been supporting their
parish with their offerings!
Your pastor, Fr. Martin
SACRAMENT OF
PENANCE
During this Corona Virus time, we cannot
use the church confessional because of it’s
confined space. However, the Sacrament of
Reconciliation is readily available to all.
Please call the parish office or the Friary to
make an appointment with either
Fr. Martin or Fr. Stephen to schedule a time
and location to receive this beautiful
Sacrament of Peace.

Kudos! Thanks! & Applause! to. . . .
Ed Madden who shared his carpentry skills and addressed several issues in the friary.
Beautiful job!; Ed Kotwica who solved some friary dishwasher problems for us. Clean
dishes!; All those wonderful parishioners, friends of Mother Cabrini, local businesses and
vendors who donated beautiful baskets, prizes, gift certificates, scratch tickets etc. for
our “Prizes Galore/Basket Raffles” (August 29th);
All those loyal parishioners who have been cooking up a storm up at the Shed in
preparation for our “Picnic Food Sale” (August 22nd); Rosie Purcell who has been busy as
a bee these last couple of weeks . . . sorting, wrapping and organizing the prizes as they
come into the office; and finally, Our wonderful parish staff members who are going the
extra mile with so many behind the scenes details to make our two
Big Events - August 22 & August 29 - a huge success! It’s an
inspiration to see so many wonderful folks coming together, giving
of their time, talent and treasure for the good of our parish!
Thank you everyone & God bless you for your goodness!

You Are Invited to a Survey!
You Are Invited to a Survey! Click on the word “survey”
Back before Covid turned our world upside down, Mother Cabrini Parish hosted a Shamokin
wide community workshop (February 11-13). Over 100 concerned citizens attended in our church hall.
Concerns were raised, workable solutions were proposed and committees formed.
In spite of the challenges all of us are experiencing, those working committees have been meeting and producing action plans and positive results.
To help us broaden more interest and participation, you are invited to take a brief survey. All
survey participants will be entered into a drawing for two $25 gift certificates; one to OIP and the other to Heritage Restaurant.
The survey closes Monday, August 10th, so don't delay. Feel free to invite others to take the survey!
Let's all help Shamokin! Simply click here.

We Need to Continue
Our Vigilance Against
Corona Virus Gathering for public worship at
Mother Cabrini Church. . .
Cabrini Parishioners. . . We recently
received from the Diocese the
following reminder to all pastors
regarding the return of public
worship at our churches.
Reminders:
- Sanitization of public spaces must occur after every liturgical gathering in our churches.
- Except in the case of children under 2 years of age and persons with health issues, masks
are to be worn as face covering the entire time parishioners attend Mass or any other
liturgical event in a parish, including sacramental Confession. They are not permitted to be
lowered at any time while in the church except to receive Holy Communion. It is not
acceptable for parishioners to lower their face masks while sitting in the pew.
- Social distancing is to be strictly enforced. The measure of 6 feet between individuals
and family groups is to be maintained while seated and moving. Groups are not to gather
outside of our churches for social time. Face masks should be worn until a person has left
the church property and distanced himself or herself from the other congregants. It should
be underscored that this is an act of charity, above all, not an
infringement upon a personal right.
Your diligence in adhering to these guidelines helps to prevent
further safety concerns for your parishioners and those in attendance
at weddings and funerals.
The protocol and directives are not optional.
❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖❖
Here at Mother Cabrini, we are observing all of the above mentioned protocols. The parish community expresses thanks and appreciation to all the various parishioners
who volunteer after each Mass as well as after funerals to help “sanitize” the church.
Thank you for your generosity of service! Fr. Martin
Thank you to Mother Cabrini’s
Parishioners Who are Helping
Us Cover our Parish’s
Weekly Expenses
Please note: Even though the church has partially “re-opened”, the letter carrier still
comes to the Mother Cabrini Parish Office building six days a week. He/She deposits
our mail through the letter slot in the side porch door. In the bundle of mail there
is always a parish bill or two (just like your home expenses). The current situation
has reduced our parish income flow dramatically which makes it increasing difficult
to pay our regular occurring bills.
I am most grateful to those parishioners who are attending Mass and leave their
offerings in the church baskets. I thank those who mail in their offertory envelopes
or drop off their donations through the parish office mail slot to help keep Cabrini
afloat. Some parishioners have been most generous and have made four-figure
donations to help us through this financially arid-period. Praise Jesus!
If you are reading this “E-bulletin” and are supporting your parish in one form or
another, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! If you are reading this “E-Bulletin” and haven’t
yet sent in your offertory gifts, please do so, either at Mass, through the mail or
through the side porch mail slot.
God bless all those Mother Cabrini Parishioners who support the parish. . . in good
times and in bad, in rain or shine, whether on vacation or in town, whether the doors
are locked or unlocked, or in times of health or in times of virus!
Thanks everybody! Fr. Martin

Notes on the “Christus Consolator” or “The Divine
Healer” Statue
The awe-inspiring "Christus Consolator" or "The Divine Healer" statue is located in the lobby
of the domed Billings Administration Building at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Lithographs that ran in the local newspapers the morning the Hospital opened show an open
rotunda, with octagonal design work in the center of the floor. Soon after, that center most spot
was covered over by a 10 1/2-foot Carrara marble Christ statue that has stood there ever
since.
Donated in 1896 by William Wallace Spence, a Scottish immigrant and one of the wealthiest
businessmen in Baltimore, the statue is an exact copy of the Christus Consolator that Danish
sculptor Bertel Thorwaldsen executed for Copenhagen's Frue Kirke
(Church of Our Lady - Copenhagen Cathedral) in 1821.
Through the years, Hopkins employees have rubbed the statue's toes in passing, and patients
often pray before it. It has become a symbol of compassion and hope.

20TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
16 August 2020
Entrance Antiphon
Turn your eyes, O God, our shield;
and look on the face of your anointed one;
one day within your courts
is better than a thousand elsewhere. Ps 84 (83):10-11
Gloria
(When it is prescribed, this hymn is either said or sung:)
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you,
we bless you,
we adore you,
we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King,
O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world,
receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father,
have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
Collect
O God, who have prepared for those who love you
good things which no eye can see,
fill our hearts, we pray, with the warmth of your love,
so that, loving you in all things and above all things,
we may attain your promises,
which surpass every human desire.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Isaiah 56:1, 6-7
Thus says the Lord:
Observe what is right, do what is just;
for my salvation is about to come,
my justice, about to be revealed.
The foreigners who join themselves to the Lord,
ministering to him,
loving the name of the Lord,
and becoming his servants—
all who keep the sabbath free from profanation
and hold to my covenant,
them I will bring to my holy mountain
and make joyful in my house of prayer;
their burnt offerings and sacrifices
will be acceptable on my altar,
for my house shall be called
a house of prayer for all peoples.
Psalm 67
R. O God, let all the nations praise you!
May God have pity on us and bless us;
may he let his face shine upon us.
So may your way be known upon earth;
among all nations, your salvation. R.
May the nations be glad and exult
because you rule the peoples in equity;
the nations on the earth you guide. R.
May the peoples praise you, O God;
may all the peoples praise you!
May God bless us,
and may all the ends of the earth fear him! R.
Romans 11:13-15, 29-32
Brothers and sisters: I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I glory in my
ministry in order to make my race jealous and thus save some of them. For if their rejection is the
reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable. Just as you once disobeyed God but have now received mercy
because of their disobedience, so they have now disobeyed in order that, by virtue of the mercy shown to you,
they too may now receive mercy. For God delivered all to disobedience, that he might have mercy upon all.
Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia.
Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the kingdom
and cured every disease among the people. Cf. Mt 4:23
Alleluia, alleluia.
Matthew 15:21-28
At that time, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district
came and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.” But Jesus
did not say a word in answer to her. Jesus’ disciples came and asked him, “Send her away, for she keeps calling
out after us.” He said in reply, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But the woman came
and did Jesus homage, saying, “Lord, help me.” He said in reply, “It is not right to take the food of the children
and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of
their masters.” Then Jesus said to her in reply, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you
wish.” And the woman’s daughter was healed from that hour.
Profession of Faith
I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
(At the words that follow, up to and including and became man, all bow.)
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
(The Apostles’ Creed may be used instead of the Nicene Creed.)
The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
Prayer over the Offerings
Receive our oblation, O Lord,
by which is brought about a glorious exchange,
that, by offering what you have given,
we may merit to receive your very self.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Communion Antiphon
With the Lord there is mercy;
in him is plentiful redemption. Ps 130 (129):7
OR
I am the living bread that came down from heaven, says the Lord.
Whoever eats of this bread will live for ever. Jn 6:51-52
Prayer after Communion
Made partakers of Christ through these Sacraments,
we humbly implore your mercy, Lord,
that, conformed to his image on earth,
we may merit also to be his coheirs in heaven.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel
St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and
snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
