Saying Farewell to Our “Friar Rich Rome”: Friar Rich was

assigned to Mother Cabrini Friary last May as part of his Franciscan training

on his journey to priesthood ordination. Called an “Apostolic Year,” he has

spent this past year both serving and learning in a variety of capacities at

Mother Cabrini, Our Lady of Hope, and St. Patrick Parishes. He has been

most generous in sharing his time and talents in the many aspects of parish

life. He takes with himself a wealth of experiences when he leaves us on

Monday, June 21. Beginning this August, Friar Rich will resume his

priesthood studies in Washington D.C.

As part of his Franciscan Formation, Fr. Rich will make his Solemn

Profession of vows in the Franciscan community on Friday, July 30 in

Maryland. Because his Temporary Vows would have expired before his

Solemn Profession, he needed to renew his Temporary Vows for a period of seven weeks.

I was delegated by our Minister Provincial, Fr. James McCurry to accept the extension of those

Temporary Vows on behalf of the Minister Provincial at a simple ceremony at Mother Cabrini Church

within the 8AM Mass on Friday, June 11, the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We had a wonderful

representation of Mass attendees from Mother Cabrini, Our Lady of Hope, St. Patrick Parishes as well

as The Shepherd’s Table Ministry in Coal Township. An informal coffee and doughnut reception

followed in Cabrini’s church hall. Friar Rich will be leaving us Monday, June 21st.

It has been both a blessing and a pleasure to have Friar Rich among us. It has been a quick year! I will

miss him and I know many in our parish and civic communities will feel the same. Fair thee well good

friar!

Fr. Martin

Deacon Robert Wislock

Humility

The famous author C.S. Lewis, wrote, “Humility is not thinking less of

yourself, it's thinking of yourself less.” Although one may be able to

describe humility, this virtue, a gift of the Holy Spirit, sometimes

presents challenges to put into practice. Through the help of the Holy

Spirit, this virtue allows each of us to accept and trust in God’s guidance

and His ways. To love, we need to be humble. Practicing humility in our lives fully opens us to

God’s love and sharing this love with those in need in our families and communities. This love

of God and one’s neighbors are Jesus’ two greatest commandments that He gives to us as His

disciples.

There is a true story that puts into perspective the need for humility in our lives. An American

musician once visited the house of the great composer Beethoven. He sat down at the piano and

proudly began to play Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. When he had finished, he asked the

famous composer, “I suppose many celebrities come here?” “Yes,” replied the man,

“Pererewski was here last week.” The American continued, “And did he play the piano too?”

“No,” said Beethoven, “He said he wasn’t worthy.” Ignacy Jan Pererewski was a brilliant Polish

pianist, composer, orator, writer, social worker and philosopher who eventually became Prime

Minister of Poland in 1919.” He was deeply humble and is a model of

what Jesus’ teachings exhort us to be in our lives. - Francis Gonsalves

in “Sunday Seeds for Daily Deeds”

May we pray, “O Jesus, gentle and humble of heart, make my heart like

Yours.”

Deacon Bob Wislock was ordained a Permanent Deacon for the Harrisburg Diocese on September 12, 2020. He exercises his ministry of service in the local parishes of Our Lady of Hope, St. Patrick and here at Mother Cabrini.

11th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

13 JUNE 2021

Entrance Antiphon

O Lord, hear my voice, for I have called to you; be my help.

Do not abandon or forsake me, O God, my Savior! Cf. Ps 27 (26):7, 9

Gloria

(When it is prescribed, this hymn is either said or sung:)

Glory to God in the highest,

and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you,

we bless you,

we adore you,

we glorify you,

we give you thanks for your great glory,

Lord God, heavenly King,

O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,

Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

you take away the sins of the world,

have mercy on us;

you take away the sins of the world,

receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father,

have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,

you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High,

Jesus Christ,

with the Holy Spirit,

in the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

Collect

O God, strength of those who hope in you,

graciously hear our pleas,

and, since without you mortal frailty can do nothing,

grant us always the help of your grace,

that in following your commands

we may please you by our resolve and our deeds.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Ezekiel 17:22-24

Thus says the Lord God:

I, too, will take from the crest of the cedar, from its topmost branches tear off a tender shoot,

and plant it on a high and lofty mountain;

on the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it.

It shall put forth branches and bear fruit,

and become a majestic cedar.

Birds of every kind shall dwell beneath it,

every winged thing in the shade of its boughs.

And all the trees of the field shall know

that I, the Lord,

bring low the high tree,

lift high the lowly tree,

wither up the green tree,

and make the withered tree bloom.

As I, the Lord, have spoken, so will I do.

Psalm 92

R. Lord, it is good to give thanks to you.

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,

to sing praise to your name, Most High,

to proclaim your kindness at dawn

and your faithfulness throughout the night. R.

The just one shall flourish like the palm tree,

like a cedar of Lebanon shall he grow.

They that are planted in the house of the Lord

shall flourish in the courts of our God. R.

They shall bear fruit even in old age;

vigorous and sturdy shall they be,

declaring how just is the Lord,

my rock, in whom there is no wrong. R.

2 Corinthians 5:6-10

Brothers and sisters: We are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the body we are away

from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yet we are courageous, and we would rather leave the body and go

home to the Lord. Therefore, we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away. For we must all appear before the

judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil.

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia. The seed is the word of God, Christ is the sower.

All who come to him will live forever.

Alleluia, alleluia.

Page 11: Mother Cabrini Church...2021/06/13  · Mother Cabrini Church The seed is the word of God, Christ is the sower. All who come to him will live for ever. Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary

Mark 4:26-34

Jesus said to the crowds: “This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and

would sleep and rise night and day and through it all the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. Of its own

accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the grain is ripe, he wields

the sickle at once, for the harvest has come.”

He said, “To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that,

when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes

the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” With many such

parables he spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it. Without parables he did not speak to them, but to

his own disciples he explained everything in private.

Profession of Faith

I believe in one God,

the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

(At the words that follow, up to and including and became man, all bow.)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Page 12: Mother Cabrini Church...2021/06/13  · Mother Cabrini Church The seed is the word of God, Christ is the sower. All who come to him will live for ever. Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary

(The Apostles’ Creed may be used instead of the Nicene Creed.)

The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth,

and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried;

he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead;

he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;

from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer over the Offerings

O God, who in the offerings presented here

provide for the twofold needs of human nature,

nourishing us with food

and renewing us with your Sacrament,

grant, we pray,

that the sustenance they provide

may not fail us in body or in spirit.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Communion Antiphon

There is one thing I ask of the Lord, only this do I seek:

to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. Ps 27 (26):4

OR Holy Father, keep in your name those you have given me,

that they may be one as we are one, says the Lord. Jn 17:11

Prayer after Communion

As this reception of your Holy Communion, O Lord,

foreshadows the union of the faithful in you,

so may it bring about unity in your Church.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer to St. Michael

the Archangel St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
