SOFT STARTERS

SolbrakeThis DC injection brake provides fast, smoothand frictionless stopping of a three-phaseinduction motor by injecting controlled DCcurrent to the motor windings.

SolstartThe Solstart is a miniature soft startercovering the 8-58A range, with a built-inbypass. It is designed for use with light dutymotors, on small conveyors, in machine toolsand other applications requiring effectivestart-stop performance in a compact package.

LV-ASThe LV-AS is a compact analogue soft starterwith current limit, covering voltages from 200-575V AC three-phase. Functions such ascurrent ramp, current limit, motor trip class,motor FLC, soft stop time, excess start time,auxiliary relay function and phase sequenceprotection are all easily set from the frontpanel analogue controls. The LV-AS is easyand economic to install, and is simple toconfigure. It provides soft start/stop plusmotor/system protection, all in a compactdesign that minimises panel space.

LV-DSThe LV-DS provides a complete range of lowvoltage digital soft starters with ‘AdaptiveControl’ technology, offering the smoothestmotor starting characteristics with the abilityto tune itself to the requirements of the load.The LV-DS covers voltages from 380-690V AC,and currents from 23A to 1600A, meeting theneeds of heavy duty applications. Simpleoperation is assured through a user-friendlydisplay, and numerous interface protolsensure easy integration. The fully featured softstarters also offer customisable protection.

LOW VOLTAGE SOFT STARTERSSoftstart UK offers a wide range of soft starters and DCinjection brakes, in both analogue and digital formats, withor without built-in bypass functionality. All of the productsare characterised by ease of operation and a highlycompact design.

Our miniature soft starters cover AC motors from 4-30kW, 230-690V AC. In addition to the simple analoguedesigns, heavy-duty digital soft starters are available withadvanced start-stop functionality. Transformer soft startersare also available for every type of transformer.

For operation in hazardous areas, Softstart UK can alsoproduce low voltage Ex-rated soft starter cabinets up to400A.

MV DS MEDIUM VOLTAGE SOFT STARTERDesigned, developed and custom manufactured bySoftstart UK, MV DS digital soft starters provide controlledstarting and stopping of large, medium voltage motors upto 11kV. Softstart UK builds each cabinet to order, with ahost of options enabling it to be customised to meet acustomer’s precise requirements.

Large, medium voltage motors generate huge torquesand draw enormous currents when started direct-on-line.Auto-transformer starting is expensive, bulky and rarelyprovides a completely satisfactory solution. The MV DS addresses these technology failings.

MV DS Medium voltage soft starterThe MV DS is a heavy-duty, fully rated design,allowing a start capacity of up to 600% FLCfor 30 seconds at a rated temperature of 50°Cwithout derating. Designed for arduousenvironments, a comprehensive motorprotection package is included and a motorinsulation test facility is offered as an option.

Variations in the supply voltage are catered forby a 45-65Hz tracking capability and theconstruction is designed for corrosiveenvironments. Tacho feedback enables

uneven torque loads, such as thoseencountered on crushers and long conveyors,to be smoothly controlled, protecting the plant.Optional PLC control and touch screen, multi-lingual IPC enables programming,diagnostics, system monitoring and data eventrecording. The graphical interface allows theoperator to see statistical data such as the laststart time, current, power and more.

The compartmentalised constructionseparates the medium voltage section fromthe low voltage compartment and motor

connection terminals. 100% isolation betweenthe LV and MV areas is provided using fitreoptic connections.

The MV-DS is designed for simple integration,operation and maintenance. A low voltagetest mode enables testing of all fucntionsusing a 3-phase mains supply and a smallmotor. Different simulation modes assist withsetup, configuration and maintenance. A dualparameter set enables the soft starters tocontrol two different motors with independentstart/stop configurations.

ADAPTIVE CONTROLDigital soft starters now feature next generation ‘AdaptiveControl’ technology, offering the smoothest motor startingcharacteristics with the ability to tune itself to the requirementsof the load, improving control for future starts.

Adaptive Control technology adjusts the current in order to startthe motor within a specified time and using a selectedacceleration profile. Three different profiles are available,providing either early acceleration, constant acceleration or lateacceleration to best meet the needs of the application.

When Adaptive Control is engaged for the first time, the firststart will be a constant current start. This allows the soft starterto learn the characteristics of the connected motor. This motordata is used during subsequent Adaptive Control starts. Andbecause the motor’s performance is monitored during everystart, control is continuously improved.

A cost-effective, classical field-oriented drive, the C2000 setsthe bar high in features andbenefits including built-in PLCfunctionality, self-diagnostics,long-life design, CANOpen andModbus communications.Standard models cover thepower range from 0.75kW to90kW at 230V AC, and 0.75kWto 355kW at 460V AC.

The CP2000 extends thebenefits of the C2000 with a sensorless vectorcontrol algorithm, making it ideal forapplications such as HVAC, constant pressurepumps, building automation, conveyors andmaterials handling.

For more demanding applications, such asfood packaging, textiles and wood-workingmachines, the C200 closes the loop to ensure

high precision operation consistently overtime. It is available in a wide range of differentmodels to suit the needs of differentindustries, and has a built-in PLC.

The active front end of the AFE2000 replacestraditional brake resistors to provide massiveenergy savings, particularly in applicationsinvolving high speed, high inertia loads.

The VFD-E/EL is a micro type multifunctiondrive that is packed with features andperformance. It is suitable for side-by-side DINrail mounting and covers powers up to 22kW.

Hitachi variable speed drives offer a raft of innovativefeatures, such as patented power switching technology toreduce dVdT, high speed RISC processors for superiordynamic response, high starting torques, and a range offieldbus interfaces for easy integration into a variety ofnetworks.

The drives are also eco-friendly, reducing the powerconsumed by motors driving centrifugal pumps, fans andother rotating equipment. Hitachi AC variable speed drivescontrol the speed of a motor and optimise the amount ofenergy used by the machinery, resulting in reducedcarbon emissions.

Hitachi SJ700Available in powers from 0.75kW to 400kW,the SJ700 represents a dramatic step changein inverter technology, being the first off-the-shelf unit with integral easy sequenceprogrammable functionality. Other featuresinclude precise positioning, and safe stopaccording to EN standards.

Hitachi SJ700BFeaturing an improved sensorless vectoralgorithm, the SJ700B develops 150% torqueat 0.5Hz up to 75kW and 120% torque at

0.5Hz up to 160kW, suiting it to a wide rangeof applications. The new EZSQ (easysequence) built in programming functionprovides the functionality of a PLC built intothe inverter. The drive features an automaticenergy saving function for fans and pumps.

Hitachi NE-S1The Hitachi NE-S1 is an economical andsimple inverter covering powers from 0.2kWto 4kW. Ideal for OEMs and systemsintegrators, it offers an ultra-compact designand is pre-configured for out-of-the-box

integration in most applications. PID, logicand time delay functions are built-in asstandard.

Hitachi WJ200The WJ200 provides enhanced high startingtorque and dramatically improved speed loadthanks to advanced sensorless vector controlwith new simplified autotuning procedure. Italso includes a dynamic braking transistor. Ahigh starting torque of 200% or greater suitsthe WJ200 to a wide variety of applications.Single- and three-phase models are available.

ASDA-A2 SeriesDelta’s ASDA-A2 Series is the ultimate servosystem, with excellent motion controlfunctionality built in and a range of featuressuch as electronic cam. A new position controlmode provides a variety of control modes toenhance system performance. A CANopeninterface simplifies system integration. Fullclosed-loop control, auto notch filter, vibrationsuppression and gantry control functions allhelp to perform complex motions that requirehigh precision and smooth operation. A 20-bitencoder comes as standard.

ASDA-A+ SeriesThe ASDA-A+ Series is a new type ofintegrated servo system with advancedfunctions for general purpose applications. Itmeets the needs of applications where highresponsiveness and stiffness are needed toreject high torque disturbances.

ASDA-AB SeriesThe ASDA-AB Series servo system meets theneeds of general purpose servo applications inlow and medium power ranges. It offers a widerange of control functions and offers a Modbus

interface for direct communications with PLCsand HMIs, and to establish the architecture ofthe communication control system.

ASDA-B2 SeriesDelta’s ASDA-B2 Series is a general purposeservo system for low and medum powerapplications. It is designed to simplify servosystem integration.

ASDA-B SeriesDelta’s ASDA-B Series is a digital servo systemwith standard functions. It provides built-inposition/speed/torque modes and supportspulse command input and analogue control.

ASDA-A SeriesDelta’s ASDA-A Series is an advanced servosystem with pulse and analogue signal control,as well as internal point-to-point positioncontrol.

DELTA SERVO DRIVESThe ultimate precision in motion control is alwaysgenerated from a servo drive solution. Delta offers severalranges of servos and can therefore meet every need ofindustry, from filling and bottling equipment to feedingmachine tools, wire cutting machines, consumerpackaging, printing and textiles.

Further, built-inautomatic low frequency vibration suppression meets theneeds of applications such as crane control.

Features such as high-speed response, innovative editingsoftware and an oscilloscope-like PC monitoring functionall help to maximise system performance. The range alsoincludes closely matched servo motors for ultimatecontrol.

HITACHI SERVO DRIVESHitachi servo drives meet various requirements indemanding applications, thanks to the fully featuredperformance realised by Hitachi’s Advanced MotorTechnology. With autotuning control, gains can beautomatically tuned to the optimum values according toeach application. In connection with Hitachi motioncontrollers, it is possible to control up to four axes, and allservo motors are available with a holding brake.

The drives deliver high-precision positioning in just0.84ms, while the 32-bit LSI processor with DSP ensuresstable rotation even at low speed.

The complementary programming software simplifies theprogramming task and significantly reducescommissioning times. The servo drive has a standardintegrated programming function for up to 512 programsteps and 100 positions. This means that, for manystandalone applications, a separate motion controller isnot required.

The servo drive range is complemented by Hitachi’spatented servo motor technology, ensuring precisioncontrol, high-speed response and reduced vibrationcharacteristics.

Hitachi AD Series servosDesigned for plug-and-play operation, thesedrives offer a rated output from 100-7,000W,and a rated torque from 0.32-33.4Nm. Theycan be provided with interfaces for variousnetwork protocols including Ethernet,DeviceNet, Modbus and SERCOS.

The AD Series servo drives meet the variousrequirements of demanding applications,thanks to fully featured performance realisedby Hitachi’s Advanced Motor Technology. Thispatented technology reduces motor coggingby over 60% in comparison with previousgenerations, making the AD Series suitablefor applications such as high-precisionprocess machinery or smart conveyorsystems where vibration could represent asignificant problem. In addition, the AD Seriesservo drives incorporate a 32-bit system LSIwith DSP, which assures high-speed response

and high precision. The matching ADMASeries servo motors are equipped with 17-bitserial encoders. The drive is able to identifythe motor automatically, so no additionaladjustment from the amplifier is necessary.

Using autotuning, control gains can beautomatically tuned to the optimum values foreach individual application.

The AHF programming software allows simpleprogramming and reduces commissioning

times, even for novice users. The ADAX4servo amplifier has a standard integratedprogramming function for a maximum of 512program steps and 100 positions.

The AHF configuration software runs underthe Windows operating system, and providesan intuitive environment for settingparameters, as well as a convenientenvironment for monitoring position, speed,torque and other variables on a personalcomputer.

Some PLCs can accommodate both left-side and right-side expansion modules, with left-side modules takingadvantage of a faster communications bus to offer theincreased performance needed for the most demandingapplications. AH500 Series PLCThe next-generation AH500 Series PLCprovides automation solutions for high-levelapplications. The combination of a modularhardware structure, advanced functions andthe highly integrated software provides asystem solution for process controlapplications.

DVP Series PLCsHighly cost-effective yet with the highestlevels of performance and functionality, DVPSeries PLCs offer high-speed, stable andreliable control across a whole spread ofindustrial applications.

The range includes the DVP-E series, whichsets new benchmark standards for nanocontrollers. For more demanding applications,the DVP-S series micro controllers offerincreased program capacity and data registersize, along with high execution speeds,impressive in-built functionality and flexibleexpandability.

DVP Series motion controllersThe DVP range also includes a number ofhigh-performance motion controllers, meetingthe needs of everything from general purposemotion to the most sophisticated applications.These include models for standalone motioncontrol and also for networked motion control.Both can take advantage of left-side and right-side DVP series expansion modules

For ease of programming, Softstart UKprovides the PM Soft programming softwarefor G-Code editing, motion trajectorysimulation, positioning route instruction andelectronic cam setup.

HITACHI PLCsAt the lowest end of the range, the Hitachi webcontroller is a miniature PLC with built-in web serverand SMTP capabilities. Up to 16 web pages can bestored within the unit, enabling remote users to monitor,report and interact with their connected equipment fromanywhere in the world.

Being a PLC at heart, it is programmable usingstandard Windows ladder editor software, and providesenough I/O for simple control applications. The built-inRS232 port means the web controller can also act as asimple interface between existing PLC installations andthe worldwide web.

PROGRAMMABLE CONTROLLERS

Hitachi EH-150 seriesThe five CPUs in the EH-150 series offer up to192Kb program memory (16k steps), up to0.1µs cycle time, and offer up to 3520 I/O. Thebase CPU includes a single- or two-channelhigh-speed counter, and either a single axis orfour axis positioning module. The CPU can beexpanded with a range of input and outputmodules (analogue and digital). Serial,Profibus-DP and DeviceNet slavecommunications are provided as standard,with additional modules providing DeviceNetand Profibus-DP master, as well as Ethernet.

Hitachi Micro-EH seriesThe seven CPUs in the Micro-EH series PLCsrange from 10 I/O up to 64 I/O, with the abilityto add expansion modules for further I/O (upto 176 maximum I/O count). An integratedRS485 interface provides connection to serialnetworks, while an integrated high-speedcounter and the in-built I/O means a singlecompact controller can be used to realisesmall- to medium-scale automationapplications. All models in the range providepulse interrupt inputs, and both pulse andPWM outputs.

Hitachi web controllerThis compact unit is small enough to sit onthe palm of the hand, making it a simple add-on to new and existing installations. The webserver can store up to 16 HTML pages. Inaddition, the built-in SMTP protocol allows itto send emails in response to up to 16different triggers. As a PLC, the web controllerincorporates a 32-bit RISC processor andoffers up to 32Kbyte of program memory, upto 26 I/O as standard, and the ability to addup to four expansion units. The controller canbe DIN rail or wall mounted.

Where more fully featured PLC capabilites are required,the Hitachi Micro-EH series controllers provide maximumpower at minimum size. Various expansion modulesdeliver increased flexibility to fine-tune the PLC to therequired level of automation.

At the top of the range, the EH-150 series of modular PLCs are used the world over in applications whereperformance, expandability, reliability andcommunications flexibility are key. With 32-bit RISCprocessors and a comprehensive range of I/O modules,the EH-150 can be readily tailored to match the needs ofeven the most demanding application.

TOUCH SCREENS AND HMI

Visual representation has long been proven to be the best way to understand a processor system. Softstart UK offers a wide range of HMIs allowing this to be achieved on theshop floor or other industrial environment. Whether touchscreen or pushbutton,programming and resetting of the host machinery can be achieved locally using an HMI,which if networked to the overall control system can provide a window into the completeproduction environment.

DELTA HMIs AND TEXT PANELSDelta DOP series HMIs provide various touchscreens withnumerous screen sizes and colours, providing fast andconvenient control functions for industrial automationmachines.

Moreover, programming the whole DOP series is doneusing Delta’s Windows-based and user-friendly ScreenEditor software. By using this software, the user canquickly edit images and graphs and set suitablecommunication protocols through macro commands.

Delta’s text panels provide a range of monochrome textand graphical panels in different sizes and with differentcombinations of numerical and user-defined function keyswhere people and machines work together. The textpanels meet the needs of applications that require flexiblemachine interaction, but without the cost or additionalfunctionality of a full HMI.

Delta’s text panels are renowned for their simple operationand control functionality. The whole series supportsvarious communication protocols. It has the advantages oflight weight, cost-effective price and good flexibility in use,which can help the user to quickly control the system andimprove working efficiency.

DOP-B series HMIsDelta DOP-B series HMIs combine excellentcontrol and visualisation capability with aninnovative widescreen design. The HMIs areavailable in screen sizes from 4.7in to 10in,with features including built-in Ethernetcommunications, the ability to display over65,000 colours, three sets of COM ports, aUSB port, support for audio output andsupport for SD card program loading andbackup.

Sealed to IP65 for use in challenging plantfloor environments, the DOP-B series HMIsoffer fast and convenient control of

manufacturing automation, replacingtraditional control panels that need extensivewiring. They are available in both blue scaleand colour display versions, with standardand windscreen versions, and with resolutionsup to 1024x600 pixels.

Different configurations provide touchscreenonly or a combination of pushbutton andtouchscreen control.

TP series text panelsFor applications that need basic operatorinput and feedback functionality without theadded cost and complexity of a full HMI, the

TP series provides a range of text panels withnumerical keypads and function keys. Thetext panels are available in formats from twolines of text up to eight lines of text, up to 12system keys and up to 24 user-definedfunction keys.

All models feature an STN LCD backlitmonochrome display, in sizes from 2.8in up to4.1in, and with resolutions from 160x32 pixelsup to 192x64 pixels. POWER SUPPLIES

DELTA POWER SUPPLIESPower supplies are available with nominal output voltages of24V and 12V DC, and they operate over wide temperatureranges from –20°C to +75°C.

Delta ensures the power supplies are ruggedly built towithstand shock and vibration to IEC 60068-2, yet are ultracompact. The power supplies provide overvoltage, overloadand thermal protection. The wide input voltages range from85-264V AC (single phase) and 320-575V AC (three phase).The multiple output terminals allow fast wiring.

DIN rail power suppliesDVO and CliQ series power supplies offer anominal output voltage of 12V or 24V, a widetemperature range from –20°C to +75°C anda minimum holdup time of 20ms. A total ofeleven models are available in powers from24W to 480W in 24V versions, and a furtherfour models in powers from 15W to 100W in12V versions.

The state-of-the-art design is made towithstand harsh industrial environments. Therugged, ultra-compact case material is shock-and vibration-resistant according to IEC 60068-2. Both black plastic andaluminium case versions are availableaccording to applications requirements.

The power supplyprovides overvoltage,

overload and thermal protection.The wide input voltage ranges from85 to 264VAC (1 phase) and 320 to575VAC (3 phase), and the multiple terminalsenable fast wiring and easy installation.

Features include advanced overloadprotection, overvoltage protection, short-circuit protection and thermal protection. Twopower supplies can be connected in parallelto provide redundancy. On 24V supplies, theoutput can be adjusted between 22V and 28V.

Panel mounting power suppliesThe tablet power supply is currently the mostwidely adopted device in the powerdistribution panel market. Delta's PMC seriesindustrial power supply offers users DC24V(35W, 50W and 100W) and DC12V (35W, 50W

and 100W) models with enhanced safety,efficiency and the best power quality.

PMC 24V single phase power supplies areavailable in six models including dual outputmodels, while PMC 12V models are availablein three versions. All feature full aluminiumcasing for lightweight and corrosion-resistanthandling, universal AC input and highefficiency. Features include overloadprotection, overvoltage protection and thermalprotection.

The power supplies have an MTBF of greaterthan 700,000 hours and an expected lifetimein excess of ten years. The power supplies areRoHS-compliant.

In automatic production processes, thepower supply is an essential component,delivering not simply power but also highstability and safety protection functions.

AC line/load reactors from Softstart UK will help keep your equipment running longer byabsorbing many of the power line disturbances, which otherwise damage or shut downan inverter, variable speed controller, or other sensitive equipment. They are the moderntechnology solution to inverter and drive application problems.

AC reactors are harmonic compensated and IGBT protected to assure optimumperformance in the presence of harmonics. They are very effective at reducing harmonicsproduced by inverters and drives, and in most cases will help you to meet IEEE 519. Useour harmonic compensated reactors on either the input or output of an adjustable speeddrive/inverter. There is no need to derate ‘harmonic compensated’ reactors for harmonics.

Softstart UK offers a comprehensive range of AC reactorsmanufactured by MTE. These reactors offer numeroususer benefits. They protect motors from long lead effects,reduce output voltage dVdT, virtually eliminate nuisancetripping and extend semiconductor life for increasedsystem reliability.

MTE AC line and load reactors are designed to reduceharmonic distortion, reduce surge currents, reduce motortemperatures, reduce audible noise and improve truepower factor.

These AC reactors are available with impedance ratings of3% and 5%. A 3% impedance reactor is typically sufficientto absorb power line spikes and motor current surges.They will prevent nuisance tripping of drives or circuitbreakers in most applications. A 5% impedance reactor isbest for reducing harmonic currents and frequencies. Theyshould be used when you need to comply with IEEE 519,to reduce motor operating temperature, or to reduce motornoise.

MTE line/load reactors are available in a variety ofenclosures with different IP ratings to meet the needs ofdifferent applications.

LINE/LOAD REACTORS

MTE RL/RLW AC reactorsStandard MTE reactors may be applied up to690V AC with compatible impedance ratings.Harmonic compensation makes them suitablefor use on either the drive input or driveoutput. They are designed to carry full ratedfundamental current and will also handlecurrent and frequencies associated withharmonics up to 50% over the fundamental.

This robust design allows MTE reactors to beused on the output of variable frequencydrives including IGBT types with switching

frequencies up to 20kHz. A premium dielectricsystem is designed to protect the reactor’scoils from the potentially high peak voltagesand fast dVdT that may be experienced whenused for motor protection with long leadsbetween inverter and motor.

MTE three-phase reactors may be applied tosingle phase drives to provide transientprotection as well. Epoxy impregnationminimises audible noise in the reactor andenhances structural and moisture integrity forimproved performance.

The high saturation current of MTE reactorsmaximises their surge current protectioncapability. MTE reactors absorb many of thepowerline disturbances which cause nuisancetrips on voltage source units.

Terminals are standard and save installationcost by minimising panel space. Finger-proof(IP20) terminals are provided up to 45A. Solidcopper box lugs are provided from 45A up to160A. Copper tab type B14 or B1 flagterminals are used for applications above160A.

Cast resin transformersEMG cast resin EMG transformers aredesigned and manufactured according toCEI 14-32 and IEC 60076-11, CENELECHD 464 and CENELEC HD528th. Onrequest, additional standards can beapplied. The core of the transformer ismade of cold rolled grain-oriented steelsheet with low loss. The surface isinsulated to reduce eddy current losses. Aspecial technology makes it possible tominimise the losses and GräuscheVibration.

The Ns windings are made of aluminium orcopper tape (the default UNI 4507). Theyare insulated by coating with a specialresin film. The impregnation of thewindings is carried out under vacuum inorder to prevent moisture absorption. As aresult, these transformers can be used in

the most challenging environmentalconditions. The winding is made of brass,aluminium or copper strip, surrounded byan insulation material of thermal class F,and aligned in a special form. After heattreatment it is potted with epoxy resinunder vacuum. Protection under time- andtemperature-controlled polymerisation andrelaxation gives a compact unit, with anappropriate thickness of the resin. Thistechnology creates Ns windings which areprotected against fire, moisture andcondensation.

Oil transformersEMG oil transformers are designed andmanufactured according to CEI 14-32 andIEC 60076-11, CENELEC HD 464 andCENELEC HD528th. On request, additionalstandards can be applied. The core ofthese transformers is created from grain-

oriented magnetic steel for low losses. Thejoints between the columns and yokes areconstructed at an angle of 45°. Thewindings are made of electrolytic copper.Upon request, they can also be made withaluminium windings.

The tanks are made of welded steel plate,with reinforcement to prevent oil leakage.The tanks are tested for leaks with liquid(UV light inspection). After sandblasting,the tanks are internally coated with aspecial protective oil paint, and externallywith a specific anti-rust paint and RAL 7031enamel.

Special terminal blocks on the Ns sideallow change in the ratio when thetransformer is disconnected. EMGtransformers are usually filled withdielectric oil or with dielectric silicone oil.

PANEL BUILDING

DRIVE CABINET HIRE SERVICESoftstart UK has built a fleet of variable speed drivecontrol cabinets which it is making available for hire toaddress a growing need across many sectors ofindustry. In particular, this new service meets increasingdemand for prompt solutions to immediate situations.

The drive cabinet hire service is ideal for companies thatneed to add capacity very quickly to meet seasonalincreases in customer demand or to cope withunexpected events. The service also helps in breakdownscenarios, where critical plant must be brought backonline as soon as possible.

Then there is scheduled maintenance of a hardworkingplant, where hiring in a variable speed drive unit willenable production to be maintained while control panelsare out of service. They can also be used for evaluationpurposes, perhaps to assess the energy savings orproductivity improvements achieved by introducingvariable speed capabilities to a system.

Further, there are many possibilities with conveying andmaterials handling, air-conditioning, ventilation and airhandling, and non-emergency aspects of the waterindustry.

Softstart has built cabinets ranging from 22kW to 220kW,covering the vast majority of potential applications.Requirements for larger units can also beaccommodated. All the cabinets are built to IP56environmental standard, with techniques in place toupgrade this if required. They are configured to be readyto run – users just wheel them to the location, plug themin and switch them on.

Training covers: installation and programming of variable speed drives; programming andcommissioning of PLCs; installation and use of soft starters; the programming and use of HMIproducts including panel PCs. Softstart UK also offers a dedicated training course thatexplores the fundamentals of variable speed drive technology.

TRAINING

ON-SITE TRAININGSoftstart UK supports its customers on-site attimes convenient to the user. Assistance duringcommissioning is extended to operator trainingand even assistance for design or controlsengineers needing to understand how best toemploy products in their machine or systemdesigns.

On-site training is always practical and isformulated to get customers up and runningfast and effectively – leaving staff with all theknowledge they need to program and run theirproducts. The training is usually performedusing the actual drives, PLCs, machines andprograms the trainees will encounter in theirdaily routines, and as such is always relevantand useful.

OFF-SITE TRAININGOff-site training is usually carried out atSoftstart UK’s own facilities, but can be at thecustomer’s site if training rooms are available.The courses are more wide-reaching thantraditional on-site training and may include acertain amount of theoretical training as well asthe practical aspects of the technology.

Most courses are semi-bespoke, so thatexactly the training required by the customeror individual is catered for. Courses aresupported by professional notes that havebeen designed to be easy to read, simple tounderstand and act both as a reinforcement forthe course attended and as a quick referencesource for the future.

Training is carried out by experienced andpractising engineers from Softstart UK’stechnical support team, so trainees areassured of up-to-date information from a true‘hands-on’ perspective.
