    MOTOROLA v3i DISASSEMBLY GUIDE

    This guide will help you replace housing parts and get to the inner

    parts of your phone. I am in no way responsible for any damageoccurred to your phone. If you follow what I say to do in this guideyou should be ok. But you need a lot of time and patience when

    disassembling your phone.YOU MUST READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY!

    1. Turn off your v3i; remove the battery cover, battery, sim card, andTF card.

    2. Flick the rubber screw covers off with a small pin; make sure youdont loose these!

    3. Now unscrew all four T5 Screws.

    4. Use your nail to lift up the top corner of the front facia (by thecamera) This should lift up easily.

    5. Now use the mobile phone opening tool to slide down the edgesof the facia. Then lift up the bottom part if it doesnt come awayfreely.

    6. Next remove the chrome buttons.

    7. Flick up the left ribbon with your nail, or use tweezers.

    8. Next flick up the right hand (camera) ribbon.

    9. Lift the bottom silver locking washers gently with tweezers. Theseare at the bottom of the screen.

    10.Lift up the speaker at attached to the ribbon at the bottom of theinner screen housing, gently ease them up.

    11.Lift off the rubber camera surround with tweezers; just slide thetweezers between the rubber and the housing. Then lift thecamera unit out.

    12.Now to remove the side buttons. Lift each button off with tweezers.DO NOT CUT THE RIBBONS!You can use a pin to get behindthe stuck down ribbon if necessary.

    13.Once all the buttons are unstuck and free from being stuck down.Place the tweezers in the bottom of the right of the screen andslowly start hinging it out. Keep lifting until it comes free.

    14.Lift the screen unit out of the inner screen housing.

    15.Remove the grey rubber camera housing and the metal protectorto the right of it. Place this into the new housing.

    16.Flip the phone over and remove the T3 screw that holds in the leftflip.

    17.Flip the phone open and the right small chrome flipper should popout. If this doesnt place the tweezers in between the

    thin bar on the chrome flipper and ease it out. Nowremove the small metal part and place this into yournew flipper part with tweezers. This is quite tricky.

    18.Open the flip up on the phone and turn it over. Push the left largerflipper out with a screwdriver. MIND THE RIBBON.

    19.Turn the phone over so the other flipper is facing you and place ascrewdriver on the small brass part, and push hard, push it in asfar as you can so that the small brass part pops out of the keypadhinge.

    You can then lift it out. WATCH THE RIBBON ON THE OPPOSITE

    SIDE, DONT SEVERE IT!Unhook the ribbon as soon as you canfrom the left hinge.

    20.From the outside push out the flicker using a screwdriver. Thenpull it out from the other side. Make sure you remove the flipperand its black housing. Put this into the new housing.

    21.Dig out the small magnet to the right of the screen (YOU NEEDTHIS PART ITS WHAT CHANGES THE SCREEN DISPLAYWHEN YOU FLIP THE PHONE OPEN).

    22.Remove the blue earpiece mesh and place it into the new housing(make sure the stickiness is removed with the mesh).

    23.Turn the screen housing over and remove the small silver Memblem and stick it into place on the new housing.

    24. Get the main body of the phone and turn it over, now unscrew thetwo T6 screws.

    25.The aerial cover should separate slightly when lifted. Open it untilyou can see the ribbon.

    26.Pull the ribbon away from the board gently with tweezers.

    27.Push the bottom aerial housing away from the top this shouldunclip the aerial cover from the lower mic housing. If not use themobile phone opening tool around the edge and it will lift up.

    Your phone should now look like this.

    28.You now need to unscrew all four T5 screws that hold the lowermic housing on.

    29.Layout the screws and the metal antenna part as they were,remove the lower housing and mic cover.

    30.Remove the rubber clip coverings on the aerial connector.

    31.Place tweezers under the right hand side of the plastic aerialcover, CAREFULLY SO YOU DONT SCRATCH THE PCB!Lift itup until it clicks and unclips itself. The rest should follow easily.

    32.Unhook the catch and push on the PCB from the opposite sideuntil the PCB comes free.

    Your lower housing assembly should now look like this.

    33.Remove the speaker from the housing with tweezers.34.Lift up the large rubber surround with tweezers.

    35.Lift up the mesh below and place it into the new housing, thenplace the rubber on top of it, and then put the speaker back inplace.

    36.Remove the gold screw contacts (at the top of the lower housing)with tweezers, and place them into the new housing.

    37.Now push the sim card holder so that the very bottom part unclipsto the opposite side.

    38.Now pull the left hand side of the sim card holder down at anangle so it unclips.

    39.Now unfree the sim card holder from the left hand side, it shouldsimply slide out once unclipped.

    40.Place the sim card holder into the new housing, the bottom goesin first, you might have to bend it slightly to get it in, just bend itback to flat once finished. Place the small rubber bung in the newhousing.

    Your lower housing should now look like this.

    41.Get the PCB board and place it into the housing, push downgently so that it slips in place.

    42.Now get the plastic aerial covering and the aerial. Put one side inand under the edge of the housing. Then bend out the oppositeside of the housing and let it clip in. Push down to make sure itsall slipped into place. Then replace the rubber parts.

    43.Lift up the metal tabs at the bottom of the rear keypad withtweezers.

    44.Lift the white IMEI data sheet up from the bottom right hand cornerwith tweezers(CAREFULLY AS NOT TO RIP IT). Then pull therest with your fingers.

    45.Now lift up the rest of the metal tabs that were hidden below thedata sheet. Make sure they are all vertical. Then push them oneby one until the keypad becomes free. Then pull from the otherside.

    46.Lift up the top of the keypad with your nail. Then use the mobilephone opening tool to hinge it up all over. Make sure all the tabsare unstuck. And pull them through the keypad housing.

    47.Push the tabs through into the new keypad housing and stickdown the keypad.

    48. Get the new mic cover and remove the blue plastic covering.Place it on the new mic cover.

    49.Assemble the mic cover and the lower front housing. The miccover slides into it.

    50. Go back to the keypad housing and get the metal antenna partwith its screws. Screw the two opposite screws first. Make sure

    the housing is all alignedcorrectly. Then screw inthe middle screws.

    51.Now put the new keypad into the keypad housing, align the metaltabs and push them through the slots on the keypad housing. Turnthe phone over and while pushing down as hard as you can benddown the metal tabs.

    52.Replace the IMEI datasheet, if it is no longer sticky, use somedouble sided tape and stick it to the keypad housing.

    53.Get the screen housing. Place the ribbon through the top fliphousing.

    54.Push the flipper in as far as you canMIND NOT TO SCRATCHTHE NEW KEYPAD HOUSING. Slide it back into the new keypadhousing.

    55.Now to remove the front LCD glass, get the screen you removedand place your nail or the mobile phone opening tool under oneedge and lift up slowly. There will be quite a lot of resistance butkeep lifting slowly until it comes free. DONT PUT ANYPRESSURE ON THE MAIN LARGE LCD, HOLD BY THE SIDES!

    56.Put the LCD unit into the new housing, then the camera unit in andclip the connector back in. Stick the earpiece back down, pressdown firmly with your finger (if the speaker is not sticky anymoreuse some double sided tape).

    57.Now get the new large flipper cover, and slide it into the left handside. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CATCH THE RIBBON, YOUMUST GET NOT CATCH ANY OF THE LAYERS OF RIBBON.THE CUT OUT IN THE HINGE MUST GO BETWEEN THEMETAL CROSS PIECE AND BEHIND THE RIBBON YOU CANSEE AT THE BOTTOM.

    58.Put the hinge back in the opposite side and replace the T3 screwthat holds it in place.

    59.Now get the bottom aerial housing and clip the keypad flexconnector back into the main board PCB. Make sure this isproperly connected.

    60.Now push the aerial housing down onto the keypad housing. Untilit clicks into place. Then press down firmly all over.

    61.Now screw back into place the two T6 screws at the back.

    62.You can now put the battery in and turn on your phone to makesure it works.

    63.Now get the new facia and take the mesh from your old facia andtransfer it into the new one. Usetweezers to lift the mesh up thenuse your fingers.

    64.Close the phone and replace the silver locking washers at thebottom.

    65.Put the side buttons into the housing.

    66.Get the new facia and push the bottom in first and then forward.Then press around the edges until the clips have all clicked intoplace.

    67.Open the phone and clean all the dust/smears off of the screen.Do this to the outer screen as well.

    68.Make sure you do this when your phone is turned off or the screenis black. The dust shows up better. Spend as long as you canwhile doing this until its perfect.

    69.Stick both screens down. (If you are using your old screen coversclean them as well to get rid of dirt and dust). The outer screencover is easy to install as the metal facia lines it up perfectly.Press down gently on the outer screen with the glass cloth tomake sure it has stuck properly. (CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THEGLASS).

    70.Put your sim card, then your TF card, then your battery back intoyour phone.

    71.Power on your phone and voila!
