64, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, at home.

Services will be held Wednesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, offi ciated by the Rev. Robert Ellis, and followed by visitation. Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, in the Calypso Cemetery. Family and friends are also being received at the home of Joy Holland, 106 Charlie Southerland Road, Mount Olive.

Judy was retired from the human resources de-partment at Dean Foods and was a member of Bear Marsh Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Ambert Sutton; her mother, Doris Ann Albritton Sutton Quinn; and step-fa-ther, Leroy Quinn.

She is survived by her children, Joy Holland of Mount Olive, and Jim Hol-land and wife, Kelli, of Faison; a granddaughter, Amithy Harris; her grand-daddy, Bernice Williams of Faison; a brother, Clayton Sutton and wife, Sue, of Ca-lypso; four sisters, Donna Q. Dr. H. Morris Cox Jr.Dr. Headley Morris Cox

Jr., 96, of Clemson S.C., died Friday, February 22, 2013 in Clemson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25 at the Clemson United Methodist Church. The family received friends im-mediately following the ser-vice at the church.

Dr. Cox was born in Mount Olive, the son of Headley Morris Cox and Frank English Cox.

He attended public schools in Mount Olive. Dr. Cox graduated magna cum laude from Duke University with a degree in English Literature, and was a mem-ber of the Duke University Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

Dr. Cox was a veteran of World War II, having re-ceived training as a Japa-nese interpreter at the Naval Language School in Boulder, Colorado. He also served with the occupation forces in Japan.

After WWII, Dr. Cox re-ceived a Masters degree in English Literature from Duke University, and a Ph.D. in Englsh Litera-ture from the University of Pennsylvania.

He was associated with Clemson University for over fi fty years, serving as Head of the English Department, and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. In 1958-59, he was Senior Fulbright Lecturer in the University

of Graz, Austria. After re-tiring from Clemson, he graduated in 1984 from the University of South Caroli-na School of Law, where he was on the Dean’s List. He practiced law in Clemson with the law fi rm of Olson, Smith, Jordan and Cox for 26 years.

He was married to the late Irene Todd Cox of Barksdale, S.C., and was the father of John M. Cox of Greenwood, S.C., Deborah Cox Vallance of Greenwood, S.C., and Thomas Headley Cox of Chapel Hill. There are three grandchildren, Patrick Cox and Olivia Jack-son Cox of Chapel Hill and Alison Cox Jones Heisler of Portland, Oregon.

After Irene died, he mar-ried Elizabeth Smith of Clemson. From this union, he had three stepchildren, Shelley Hobson of Wilming-ton, Dale Smith-Henslee of Irmo, S.C., and Jed Smith of San Francisco.

merlin Hines, 104, of North Center Street in Mount Ol-ive, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at her resi-dence.

She was daughter of the late George Edgar Sum-merlin Sr. and Emma Aaron Summerlin, and the widow

of Reginald R. Hines Sr. She was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister; a great-grandson; and a son-in-law.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; three daughters and two sons-in-law; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, offi ciated by the Rev. Craig Hansen and Dr. Dennis Atwood, followed by interment in Maplewood Cemetery. Friends and family were received at the residence, and also at the cemetery at the conclusion of the service.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choosing.

- March 23, 2013James Robert Baker, 85,

of Dale Road, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 23, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Golds-boro.

Mr. Baker, retired from the U.S. Navy, was also a re-tired employee of the Town of Mount Olive, where he was known for operating the “street sweeper” while most of the Town was asleep. He, too, was a member of Calyp-so Baptist Church.

Funeral services, with military honors, will be held Wednesday, March 27, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tyn-dall Funeral Home with Dr. Greg Day and the Rev. Paul

Rose offi ciating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Ceme-tery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, March 26, from 7 until 8:30 p.m., and at other times at 648 Massey Road, Dudley, the home of Patri-cia Jenkins.

Mr. Baker is survived by six children and their spouses, Kathy B. and Jim Suits of San Ignacio, Belize; Mary B. and Carroll Grady of Mount Olive, Steve and Betty Baker of Raleigh, Su-san B. Goodman and Bill Turner of Wilmington, Pa-tricia B. Jenkins of Dudley, and Tommy and Perry Baker of Goldsboro; ten grandchil-dren; 17 great-grandchil-dren; and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Martha Qualls Baker; his parents, Homer F. and Rosa Mathis Baker; a brother, Homer F. Baker, Jr.; and fi ve sisters, Dora B. Miller, Shirley B. Hill, Louise B. Newell, Cora B. Hinson, and Dorothy B. Fowler.

of Luray, Va. died March 19, 2013.

He was born on Novem-ber 28, 1921, in Snow Hill.

Funeral services were held at Page United Meth-odist Church in Luray on Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial followed at Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray.

The family received friends at The Bradley Fu-neral Home, Inc. on Friday from 7 to 8 p.m.

63, of Seven Springs, died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at home.

Funeral services were Saturday at 3 p.m. at Shu-mate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Erick Welborn offi ciating. Burial followed at Pinewood Cemetery.

Born in the Seven Springs community, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Lee Wooten and Edna Stone of Mount Olive.
