Stirling North Volunteers

As well as the Community Response Groups in the area, the Stirling North Local Co-ordination team is working with a small team of individual local volunteers who came forward following the national call for people to volunteer to help their communities during the Covid19 emergency.

One such volunteer is Valeria, a student from Stirling University who felt she wanted to help the community and support the response in the area. Valeria is now helping out with tasks such as shopping for local residents many of whom are elderly and can’t get to the shops themselves as they are self-isolating.

As a foreign student, living abroad she has felt volunteering has helped her connect to the local community. But don’t take our word for it - have a look at the video Valeria made for Volunteers’ Week.

What’s Happening With You

Volunteering and Covid 19

Volunteer Scotland has a series of advice and support resources available to community organisations on volunteering during this crisis. They are also sharing volunteering stories through their weekly 20 minute programme Radio V, which deals with current issues and stories. This weeks includes

Breathing Easy: Transforming the lives of people with lung conditions in Clackmannanshire

Making Carers Visible: A shout out to the carers from poet Angie Strachan

Volunteering and Furlough

Furlough, part of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, is a reality for many people at the moment. If placed on furlough a person can't work for their employer but can volunteer in the community.

More information on furlough is available on the Government website or the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations have published information on the Scheme and how it works.

Balfron waste and recycling centre reopens Balfron waste and recycling centre will re-open to the public on Wednesday, 24 June with the introduction of a new booking system.

Residents from Balfron and the surrounding areas will now be able to reserve a 10 minute slot through the Stirling Council website, or by calling 01786 404040, when the system goes live at 10am on Monday, 22 June.

Polmaise and Callander tips re-opened on June 1st with new queuing systems to comply with social distancing rules.

The smaller size and layout of Balfron recycling centre made this a more challenging task and the booking system has been created to ensure the site can now be accessed safely by drivers and staff.

Information on booking is available here under the tab ‘Balfron’.

Bookings are on a first come, first served basis and are limited to one per person, per week.
