Thank you to our sponsors:

It’s our pleasure to welcome you to the 2014 Missouri Park and Recreation Association Annual Conference. We are excited about this year’s Conference at Tan-Tar-A and glad that you are joining your friends and fellow professionals for this great event. The theme for the conference this year is R U IN? This theme was chosen because it has so many important meanings to our profession and the services that we provide. So we ask the question, R U INto your profession? R U INto your community? R U INto the mission and purpose of your department or city you serve?

We think that you will be “into” the Annual Conference this year for many reasons. The program this year includes a wide variety of educational sessions, region and section meetings, socials and time to network with fellow professionals. This year’s general session will feature an announcement about MPRAs new strategic plan along with many other exciting things.

Our Keynote Speaker this year is Aron Hall from the National Inclusion Project. Their mission is “to bridge the gap that exists between young people with disabilities and the world around them.” Similar to the services that we provide as professionals, the National Inclusion Project partners with other organizations so they may provide as many opportunities as possible to those wishing to participate in parks and recreation activities. New this year, we are able to give you six additional “featured speakers.”

On Thursday night, the Awards Banquet will recognize our fellow professionals and volunteers in our local communities as well as honor one inductee into the Missouri Recreation and Parks Hall of Fame. Congratulations in advance to all those who are recognized that evening! So, we encourage you to have a great week and enjoy the fellowship, training and planned festivities. Thank you for your support of the MPRA and your enthusiastic involvement in your profession. We’re glad U R In!

Sincerely,

Terry Robertson, PhD Chris Deal, CPRPMPRA President 2014 MPRA Conference Chair

Beginning this fiscal year, the Board of Directors identified one of its priorities as the review of the Association’s Governing Documents, ensuring clarity, consistency and currency with actual practices. Meetings were held over the course of the past six months with staff and the Executive Committee drafting the proposed amendments.A proposed amendment to MPRA Bylaws requires a vote of the membership for approval or disapproval. Members were initially notified by mail with an article in the Winter Missouri Parks and Recreation magazine. A second notice, sent electronically and by U.S. Mail (to those without unique email addresses, or members who have opted out of electronic messages from MPRA), further described the proposed changes and the upcoming vote process. The proposed changes were also posted on the MPRA website for approximately two weeks prior to the meeting of the members. If you are a current member of MPRA, you should have received a yellow colored ballot in your registration packet. If you believe you ARE a member and did NOT receive a ballot, please visit the registration desk immediately to make sure you are entitled to vote! The meeting of the members will be held on Wednesday, February 26 at 8:30 am in conjunction with the General Session at the Annual Conference at Tan-Tar-A Resort. All members are urged to attend this meeting and cast your vote on this governance matter.
