Mr. Hogan began teaching because he likes working with kids, and he has been teaching for 27 years. All 27 have been at Riverview. He still finds teaching rewarding after all these years. Two students liked Shel Silverstein and would get to say one poem in front of the class by memory. His students have taught him to stay young and have a sense of humor. The biggest chal-lenges facing teachers is the large class size and balancing the teach-er-child ratio. Also, changes in the students’ backgrounds have offered challenges, as have higher expectations with less time.

“Work hard, play hard, dream…believe…do!” These words are hanging in Mr. Hogan’s class-room and are his advice to all stu-dents.

The White Tiger by Sarah Faulk

White Tigers are amazing, coura-

geous mammals that have the grit to per-

severe in life. They can be 4½ to 9 feet

long with their tail around 4 feet long.

White tigers can be about 675 pounds.

Even with this weight they are increadible

swimmers.With

a life span up

to 10 years in

the wild, still

three species

are already

extinct with

five remaning.

White Tigers

live in India, Soviet Union, Malaya, and In-

donesia. People all over the world are try-

ing to help increase the population of

these extraordinary animals, which is now

only about 7,000.

Star Wars

The force awakens

Finn(Started as a storm trooper) and Rey

tries to find Luke Skywalker and to find

him they mst get the other part of the

map. The new bad guy called Kylo Ren.

A surprise you have to figure it out about

Kylo Ren. Also new light sabers and peo-

ple from the new and old star wars.

I thought the movie was totally awesome

and emotional.

It`s Another Christmas

Charlie Brown Part 2 It was time for the play. Charlie Brown and the

gang were nervous. He told them to be there around 5:30

at night, so most of them were there. When they got there

Charlie Brown had a baseball bat in his hand, and was

pointing to people. He said, “Sally do this and Lucy do

that.”

Then the doors were opened and people were

coming in. People were practicing their lines. “Hark, Hark,

Hark, “said Sally.

When it started, it was terrible. The kings walked

while Mary and Joseph were walking. Then the manger got

set up while the sheep were dancing. “Ahhh,” said Charlie

Brown “I forgot we were really bad at acting.”

Then it was Sally`s turn, “Baseball bat!”

“Baseball bat?” said the gang.

Right on stage Sally said…”I said baseball bat. Why

did I say baseball bat? I was supposed to say Hark and not

hockey stick or baseball bat! Now everyone hates me.”

Then the play was over.

.

“That was the worst play ever,” said Charlie Brown.

“Maybe they should not cast Sally next time,” said

Linus

“Ohh my sweet baboon,” said Sally.

“I am not your sweet baboon,” said Linus

Than Linus said, “Happy New Year Charlie Brown.”

“Thanks,” said Charlie Brown.

Then Lucy came up and said… “You blockhead”!

My ultimate snow

gear by Hayley

My coat would be a black fuzzy Northface

with heaters on the inside. Then there would be a

button that pulls out hot cocoa and chicken noo-

dle soup. Inside the hood there would be a button

that pulls out a mirror to fix my hair.

My snow boots would have a toe heater

and a mini Segway so when I’m sledding I don’t

have to walk all the way up the hill again.

a

My ultimate ski gear would include a ski

coat that has a button, and when you press

the pink button, hot chocolate pops out of the

back of your ski coat. Then your ski helmet will

throw marshmallows into the hot chocolate

and top it with whipped cream and sprinkles. J

J Then a robot will feed it to you if you want

when you press a green button. But that’s not

all…. If you can’t get up the mountain be-

cause there is a long wait, with the ultimate skis

they can take you back up the mountain in

three seconds. That is my ultimate ski gear.

It looked like the Cardinals were going to

win it was 20 to 13. Then a few plays

later with just a few seconds left Rodgers ran to

the side and chucked a Hail Mary as he was fall-

ing down. Janis ran from about the 10 yard line

into the end zone just as he caught the Hail Mary

from Rodgers.

Into Overtime During the first coin flip they said that the

coin did not flip at all. Once the Cardinals re-

ceived the ball they through the ball to Fitzgerald

and he ran to

about the 5 yard

line. The next

play they

through it again to

Fitzgerald for the

touchdown. The an-

an amazing play. In the end Arizona beat Green

Interview of Alex Lowry by Abbie Virts

When did you begin playing your sport?

1. I began playing softball when I

was 6 years old, I played on my

older sister's team. I started play-

ing on a little league team and

also an ASA team.

What are your inspirations and

aspirations?

2. My inspiration always came

from watching older athletes who

played before me. One of those

athletes being my older sister, who I looked up to. I aspire

to be a great softball player on the field, but an even better

person off the field. I want to become a teacher and a

coach, I enjoy helping younger athletes develop their skills

and a love for the game.

What challenges have you faced?

3. A recent challenge I have faced, was my junior year in

college my arm kept getting really sore after games and

practices. I got it looked at and found I had torn the liga-

ment in my elbow, which required me to have a surgery

they call Tommy Johns. It was a big challenge for me to

overcome, because I would have to sit out

1st 2nd 3rd 4th

Green Bay 0 6 7 7

Arizona 7 0 3 10

for 12 months and miss a season of softball. It also meant a lot of

hard work and rehab to get back to my level of play for the next

season. Before my surgery I played short stop which required a

lot of throwing, after surgery I had to move to outfield because it

was better for my arm. This was a hard transition for me but I

wanted to do what was best for my team.

What routines do you follow?

4. A typical day for myself and my softball team includes 6 am

conditioning workouts 3 to 4 days a week. The team lifts 3 days a

week and we have practice 5 to 6 days a week for 2 to 3 hours.

To be the best player I can be I also get a workout in on my own

most weekdays.

Some things I do in my training that contribute to my success is

set goals for myself everyday going into practice. I like to have

specific things to work on each day to better myself, and also I

ask my teammates and coaches for feedback and instruction.

There is always room for improvement!

What have you learned about teamwork?

5. I've learned that teamwork is essential to my team's success. I

consider my softball team family, we might not all be the best of

friends off the field but on the field we always come together

and have each others backs. It's difficult sometimes because

when your on a team you might be competing for a spot against

one of your teammates, but it is so important to play as a team

and support each other. When I have difficulties with teammates

I either address the situation right away because I am a captiain,

or sometimes try to ignore it because I don't like drama.

I have felt pressured by my coaches and my parents. I try so hard

to be the best I can be for my coaches and my parents and I

don't want to let them down. I feel like the pressure I've felt has

been good, because it pushes me to work harder. Occasionally it

is hard for me to not let that pressure get in my head. Softball is

a mental game, and if you don't keep that pressure in perspec-

tive and clear your mind it might get in the way of how you per-

form on game days.

I've learned a lot about my own endurance being a college ath-

lete. I've learned that I can push my self harder than I think

sometimes.

The roll of my parents is a big one. Ever since I started softball

they have spent lots of evenings, weekends, and summers taking

me around the state to compete in the sport I love. They are at

every game cheering me on and are my biggest fans!

What words of advice or encouragement do you have to share

with younger athletes?

6. Some advice I have for younger athletes is, enjoy the time you

have with your teammates and coaches because it goes by fast.

Athletics gives you a chance to develop friendships with athletes

and coaches from around the state and country. It teaches you

hard work, teamwork, dedication, and adversity. Have fun and

work hard at everything you do!

HAWAII

By Zach Dean

On Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 3:00

A.M. I woke up to go to Hawaii. We got ready

then we picked up my grandparents, and off

to the airport we were. At six o’clock we

boarded the aircraft. When we took off we

were on our way to the Seattle-Tacoma Inter-

national Airport. On our way to Kahului Inter-

national Airport we flew in a Boeing 737-900.

The 900 means it has 4 life rafts in the top of

the cabin. There is also a Boeing 737-800.

The 800 means it has 3 life rafts in the top of

the cabin. We got to Hawaii and got our car

then we went to Costco-complete pandemo-

nium-to get our food. Then we drove to our

condo we got to our room, put our stuff away

then off to the beach. In Hawaii the climate

was mild and rainy. On new years we went to

my uncle’s wedding. After that we went on a

dinner cruise. The rest of the days we either

hung out at the beach or went shopping. We

also went fishing and saw whales. We left at

10:30 pm. We got to the Portland Oregon in-

ternational airport than of back to Seattle.

We were at Seattle for five hours. When we

got back home I was glad to be safe.
