Greetings from the 2015

MSERA Program Chair!

I hope each of you is enjoy-

ing a wonderful summer! What bet-

ter time to get your 2015 MSERA

proposal submitted! The July 15,

2015 deadline for submitting your

proposals for the 2015 MSERA

meeting in Lafayette, Louisiana is

quickly approaching, but there is

still time to get those proposals

submitted. This year’s program is

already shaping up into a one-of-a-

kind event with a wide variety of

topics and themes that are all une-

quivocally important and timely in

the field of education. You won’t

want to miss being a part of it!

Please pass along this annual meet-

ing information to your colleagues

and graduate students. The annual

MSERA meeting will be November

4-6, 2015 at the Doubletree by Hil-

ton Hotel Lafayette. All members of

MSERA and others are invited to

submit proposals for (a) Discussion

sessions, (b) Display sessions, (c)

Symposia, (d) Training sessions,

and/or (e) Research in Progress

(RIP) sessions. Proposals will be

considered if they are submitted

electronically by Wednesday, July

15, 2015 at http://www.msera.org/

annual-meeting-cfp.html. Pro-

posals should be submitted in the

form of an abstract. All submissions

for the James E. McLean Outstand-

ing Distinguished Paper Award and

the Hebert M. Handley Outstand-

ing Dissertation/Thesis Award

must follow special instructions at

http://www.msera.org/awards-

papers.html.

Primary authors will be

notified, via email, both an

acknowledgement of receipt of the

proposal and a final disposition of

the proposal by September 15,

2015. Therefore, it is important that

primary authors are able to access

email from July 15, 2015 through

September 15, 2015. Submit one

completed Proposal Information

web page form for each paper/

display/other session being pro-

posed. The web page form requires

authors to submit cover sheet infor-

mation and the abstract of the pa-

per/display/other session. Authors

submitting a training proposal

must send an abbreviated vita for

each trainer to the Program Chair

as an email attachment.

If you have questions about

submitting your proposals, please

contact me, Dr. Rebecca Robichaux

-Davis, at [email protected].

Many of you have already contacted

me, and I thank you for your inter-

est and excitement with regards to

attending and presenting at the

2015 MSERA Meeting. Thanks, al-

so, to all of you who have already

submitted your proposals. I’m

thrilled to be given the opportunity

to be able to put together such a

fine program based on the submis-

sions that I’ve already seen! Look-

ing forward to seeing you in Lafa-

yette in November! Laissez les bon

temps rouler!

2015 INCOMING PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hello! I hope you are having a wonderful summer and planning

to submit proposals for our upcoming conference. Lafayette is a won-

derful place to visit and, at our spring Board Meeting, we considered it

part of our sworn duty to sample the local food and culture. The hotel

has great meeting space, hospitality, and delicious food. Our hosts

(formally known as the local arrangements committee) Dustin Herbert

and Michelle Haj-Broussard are making wonderful plans for your en-

joyment. Meanwhile, Rebecca Robichaux is planning for your profes-

sional development as she arranges our 2015 Meeting Program. Be-

cause one of the great aspects of MSERA is forming professional friend-

ships, we are planning two new sessions to allow time for connections.

The first session will be networking round tables. When you arrive at

the conference, you will be asked if you wish to attend the networking

session and, if so, to indicate three areas of research that interest you.

We will then match responses and form groups for that session. Lead-

ing into the Business Meeting, we will also hold committee meetings. If

you are interested in serving on a committee or simply finding out more

about a committee, please plan to attend the committee meeting during

this time. If you wish to serve on multiple committees, simply rotate

among the meeting rooms at your discretion.

Our Past President, Kathy Campbell, has arranged a very timely

panel for our keynote lunch. In light of the monumental cuts in higher

education, and the overall privatization movement in K-12 education,

the panel will discuss challenges, dilemmas, and solutions. The panel

includes Faculty Senate Presidents from six Louisiana Universities: Dr.

J Kirylo, Southeastern Louisiana University; Dr. K Cope, Louisiana

State University; Dr. V. Menon, McNeese State University; Dr. S. Hes-

ter, Southern University at Shreveport; Dr. L. Deaton, University of

Louisiana at Lafayette; and Dr. B. Salvador, Louisiana State University

– Shreveport. When you make your hotel reservations, even if you are

using hotel points instead of

the great MSERA rate, be sure

to tell them that you are with

our organization to ensure

that we get the low rates on

meeting rooms. I look forward

to seeing you in November.
