Multi-modal

aviation hubs

The aerotropolis era

Infrastructure lies at the heart of our cities.

Transport has always dictated the speed and

location of development. From ports in the

1700s, rail in the 1800s, road in the 1900s,

through to the rise of aviation in the 2000s.

Infrastructure shapes cities

Cities need to remain competitive and

functional. Attracting the right talent,

investment, businesses, tourists, events

and students, allows a city to remain

vibrant. Great cities connect to regional

and global markets seamlessly.

A city’s future depends on its ability to

remain agile, resilient and future ready.

Cities are our future

Aviation is driving

connectivity in modern

cities

It is estimated that over

eight million people fly each

day. These figures will

continue to rise as

urbanisation grows and air

travel becomes affordable

and accessible to all.

Creating integrated

networks that allow air

travel to remain efficient

and functional is a clear

challenge for the future.

Aviation has changed our lives. How

we receive goods, connect globally,

do business and have fun. As our

cities evolve around these aviation

hubs, they are changing the physical,

economic and social core of our

cities and communities.

What is an

aerotropolis?

An aerotropolis is a city

with an airport at its centre.

It delivers economic

opportunities and connects

with its surrounds via

integrated transport links,

social/retail hubs, business

precincts and residential

areas. When properly

planned and designed, it

gives a city wings.

It connects people

It’s a destination

Through people-driven contextual design, an

aerotropolis seeks to deliver an enjoyable user

experience by being innately connected and

relevant to its surrounds. This includes integrated

transport links to help alleviate ‘pain points’ like

grid-locked traffic or ambling public transport.

It’s a destination

An aerotropolis is more than a place to

board a plane. They are destinations.

Dynamic places where people can

shop, socialise, attend an expo, plug

into a collaborative workspace, stay at

a favourite hotel or even raise a family.

How do you create

an aerotropolis?

It takes thought

When planned properly, an aerotropolis

serves to connect businesses to their

regional and global markets, providing

opportunities for growth and job creation.

These centres drive urban form, economic

activity and city competitiveness.

Fundamental to success is

comprehensive and

thoughtful master-planning;

detailed planning which

considers the broader

social, economic and

geographic factors of the

region in the early stages of

conception.

It makes sense

When careful thought is

given during the early

stages of planning, an

aerotropolis will deliver

economic prosperity and

support a thriving city.

Simply put, an aerotropolis

makes sense for our cities

and most importantly, for

the people who live, work

and play in our cities.

Just imagine what can be

achieved when we design to

innovate. When we bring

ideas to life by putting people

at the heart of our planning

and development.

The sky’s the limit…
