Website Review: Review of BBC.co.uk

Simple & welcoming is how I would define the home page of BBC. The layout, design and colors are classy and simple much like the personality of the news channel. The black & white layout makes it easy to read and navigate the website. However, the color tone is not consistent on hand held devices where it turns an angry red like the Times.

Some of the categories could have been named better. The simple and safe design works for most part of the website, and even for the individual pages for each article. The disappointing part however is the way the business news and updates from correspondents are presented. There is lot of extra space that could have been used for featuring at least one image here. The Ads placed right in between the main featured news on top is unnecessary as well. The shop page is not impressive either.

Frankly, the ‘More from around the BBC’ part of the home page looks like a better & more stylish fit for the current bland top section. The website can look more dashing if these inconsistencies in design are taken care of.

Blog Sample: How does credit card work?

"Can you lend me some money?” is a phase that we all use when our pockets run dry. If you can't borrow from a friend, you borrow from the bank. A credit card lets you do that.

A credit card is an instant loan that allows you to take credit from the bank to make payments without any security or paper work. You just swipe and make the payment. The credit gets recorded immediately and at the end of the term, the bill is generated for the amount you owe to the bank. Mostly this will include the interest and if you are late, penalties too. The biggest merit of a credit card is the interest free period during which you can use it without paying any interest as long as you remit your dues before the term ends. I think the biggest problem with credit card is the ease with which you can use money that you actually don't have. You may tell yourself, 'I am just borrowing from the future me'. But essentially you are spending over and above your existing cash balance for the month and putting a big fat liability on your future income even before you earn it. But the worst thing about credit cards is the interest computation used by the banks during repayment. While interest free period is fairly simple and easy for any idiot to understand. The payment with interest stage is a different ball game. Unless you have a lot of time, patience and good Math skills, you will never get it.

My only advice for people who regularly use credit cards, is to think of the future version of themselves who will pay the credit card bills. Unless you can't live without it, don't buy it, don't swipe it. 'Future you' will thank you very much for that.
