my love/hate relationship with twitter: how i got over 1,000 followers in 10 days
TRANSCRIPT
Why did I decide to try to get 1,000 Twitter followers in 10 days?
• I hated Twitter
• I didn’t understand Twitter.
• It bothered me that people who tweeted didn’t spell correctly.
• I wanted to force myself to use Twitter.
• This campaign would force me use Twitter a LOT everyday.
• I hoped I’d learn to use it…and even like it.
In the beginning…
• @WomenInBizRock
• Only 140 characters
• Hashtags huh???
Sadly, this was my first tweet:Do you know The Women In Biz? #WomenInBiz http://thewomeninbiz.com
Psst…What’s wrong (or right) with this tweet?
Sample tweets
• @womeninbizrock is on pace for 1,000 Twitter followers in its first 10 days! Will you be one of them?
• Help @womeninbizrock reach their goal of 1,000 followers in their first 10 days!
• Please follow! TheWomenInBiz on Twitter
• Only 99 more followers until @WomenInBizRock has over 1,000 Twitter followers in its first 10 days! #TheWomenInBiz
• Dear 24 people who haven’t yet followed The Women In Biz on Twitter. Go ahead & follow this awesome organization so they can reach 1,000. TY.
Pssst…What’s wrong with these tweets?
Once the goal was reached…
• Thank you to all of our incredible followers! @womeninbizrock achieved (and passed) our goal of 1,000 in our first 10 day! #Thank You.
Pssst…How could this tweet have been written more effectively?

9:00 am- 9:00 pm Tweeted every hour for days 1-5
Days 6 and 7
• Added Facebook, Google + and LinkedIn
• Posted 1-2 times a day on FB, G+ and LinkedIn
• Tweeted every ½ hour
• Still only asking people to follow @womeninbizrock
• Not posting or tweeting anything of value, no interesting or valuable info.
Day 8
• Panic
• Regretted the entire campaign
• Feared public humiliation
• More panic
• Still only continued with every ½ hour posting schedule.
Days 9 and 10
• Frenzy mode
• Round-the-clock every 15 minutes tweeting and posting schedule
• As of Jan. 29, 2015 my Twitter feed showed about 41 tweets per minute…
