THE STUDENTI am Graciella Marell P.

Corpuz, a 3rd year student taking up Bachelor in Secondary Education (Major in English) at Cavite State University – Main Campus.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

IN A NUTSHELL

my portfolio ineducational technology

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN A NUTSHELL The word “technology” comes from a greek word “techne” which means craft or art.

Educational technology refers to the art or craft of responding to our educational needs.

Technology does not necessary mean that these are just machines but is a “planned, systematic method of working to achieve planned outcomes – a process, not a product.”

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN A NUTSHELL

Based from The World Book Encyclopedia, Vol. 19

Educational technology refers to how people use their inventions and discoveries to satisfy their educational needs and desired, i.e learning“

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN A NUTSHELL

Based from the Definition of Educational Technology

Educational technology is “a complex integrated process involving people, procedures, ideas, devices and organization for analyzing problems and devising, implementing, evaluating and managing solution to those problems, involved in all aspects of human learning.”

“ “

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN A NUTSHELL

Based from David H. Jonassen

Educational technology is “consists of designs and environments that engage learners … and reliable technique and method for engaging learning such as cognitive learning strategies and critical thinking skills.”

It is also a theory about how problems in human learning are identified and solved.

“ “

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN A NUTSHELL

Based from Lucid and Borabo

Educational technology is a field study which is conderned with the practice of using educational methods and resources for the ultimate goal of facilitating the learning process.“

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN A NUTSHELL Dale’s Cone of

Experience is a visual model that is composed of eleven (11) stages starting from concrete experiences at the bottom of the cone then it becomes more and more abstract as it reach the peak of the cone. Also according to Dale, the arrangement in the cone is not based on abstraction and number of senses involved. The experiences in each stages can be mixed and are interrelated that fosters more meaningful learning.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN A NUTSHELLThe Computer as the

Teacher’s Tool In this lesson, we shall again look at the computer, but this time from another perspective the computer as the teacher’s handy-tool. It can in fact support the constructivist and social constructivist paradigms of learning.

Based on the two learning theories, the teacher can employ the computer as/an:

Information Tool Communication Tool Constructive Tool Co-constructive Tool Situating Tool

The Computer as the Teacher’s Tool

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN A NUTSHELL1. Informative tool.

The computer can provide vast amounts of information in various forms such as text, graphics, sound and video. The internet itself provides an enormous database from which user can access global information resources that includes the latest news whether forecast airline schedules, sports development, news entertainment and features as well as educational information.

2. Constructive tool. The computer itself can be

used for manipulating information, visualizing understanding and building new knowledge.

The Computer as the Teacher’s Tool

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN A NUTSHELL3. Co-constructive tool

Students can use co-constructive tools to work cooperatively and construct a shared understanding of new knowledge.

4. Situating toolThe computer can create 3d

images on display to give the user the feeling that are situated in a virtual environment. A flight simulation program is an example of a situating tool which placed by the user in a simulated flying environment.

The Computer as the Teacher’s Tool

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY IN A NUTSHELLComputer- Assisted Instruction (CAI) means that the computer

can be a tutor in effect alleviating teacher of many activities in his personal role as classroom tutor. It should be made clear, however, that the computer cannot totally replace the teacher since the teacher shall continue to play the major roles of information deliverer and learning environment controller. In order to integrate CAI in lessons, it should not stop with the drill and practice activities of student hence CAI reinforced well in repetitive drills and exercises e.g. vocabulary building, math facts, and basic science, and history or geography facts and the likes. This CAI includes simulation programs, instructional games, multimedia encyclopedia and electronic books.

LEARNING THROUGH ED TECH 1 AND 2

my portfolio ineducational technology

LEARNING THROUGH ED TECH 1

Educational Technology has been very helpful as a future educator because ED TECH makes the students aware especially on how to put technologies in a great way. It lets us maximize the possibilities of the use of technologies, specifically, computers.

Here in ED TECH, our professor taught us the correct way in creating a powerpoint presentation (which we are already applying). That was indeed very helpful because as a 21st century educator, we all know that powerpoint presentations are the instructional materials we mainly use instead of writing your notes on a manila paper.

LEARNING THROUGH ED TECH 1

Another thing that I learned in ED TECH 1 is the Dale’s Cone of Experience wherein it identifies which way that your students learns best. In the Dale’s Cone Experience, it goes to show that your students must do a certain task related to your topic in order to fully understand the lesson you are teaching them.

ED TECH 1 also taught us that carefully select the instructional materials that us teachers are bound to use.

And by these lessons in ED TECH 1, I come to realize that we shouldn’t pick our instructional materials just to tell that you have prepared one because instructional materials are a vital part of your lesson. It must be effective in order for your students to effectively learn from your lessons as well.

LEARNING THROUGH ED TECH 2

Integrating and the application of technology as instructional material are what ED TECH 2 is all about. It is a more

elevated and complex form of the instructional media that are being used to properly facilitate the learning of the students.

THE STUDENT AFTERED TECH

my portfolio ineducational technology

THE STUDENT AFTER ED TECH Educational Technology facilitates the learning even better

in terms of instructional materials because it uses technologies which are mainly used by the students nowadays. Kids of today are “techie” that’s why it would be best of you put in to use the technologies in your class so that they can be more engaged and entertained in the class. However, we should solely use the technologies in class because it may be abused. At the end of the day, technologies can never replace students.
