DESCRIPTION

Mc Escher 3 of 20 By 2010 I became very interested in optical illusions and Mc Escher a graphic artist. I desperately wanted to create a piece of work that could really confuse the viewer, shock and entertain. I really enjoy the progression and movement through the images. Unfortunately around this time in my life I don’t think I had the artistic ability or patience to create a piece of work as good as Mc Escher. With the help of my tutor I looked for other ways I could create a similar effect.

Nina Chakrabart

I found myself Interested in Nina Chakrabarti in 2009, she's and illustrator based in London. I really like the concept of changing someone's face with a biro, almost like doodling. I think this work is easy to relate to as I'm sure we've all doodled on someone's face before. I think these women look tribal like, ready for a battle and powerful. She would gather images of people and draw on top of the paper. These pieces of work are from her Voodoo Queens series produced for I want you magazine.

Bridget Riley

4of 20

Me and my teacher found an artist called Bridget Riley. I spent the rest of my time at school time obsessed with her. She created these precise mind bending pieces of work that not only draw you in with her talent and skill but there also incredibly interesting and confusing. Not only are these brilliant pieces of art work they involve a lot of mathematics and measurements; which I don’t think have ever been my strong point but was interesting incorporating them in my work.

Alexander McQueen

I arrived at college in 2012 and Alexander McQueen entered my life. Following on my interested from Bridget Riley and Mc Escher I fell in love with his collection of Black and white dresses. Not only is his work visually pleasing I like how the design and construction breaks up the form of the body and changes the human shape. His work has all the qualities of an optical illusion that I enjoy, I had to and try create a similar style dress!

Gareth PughIf I do follow a fashion and textile path – this type of work is what ill be aiming for. As you can see Gareth Pugh created very bold 3dimensinal garments. He was influenced by buildings, structure and form. He played a large influenced into some of my previous textile work, sadly I don’t think my ideas turn out as I imagined.

This was a mini task in our lesson. This was done with newspaper and staples. Id like to incorporate some of the features of the dress into some of my work now. ( The timing has disappeared on this one)

This is my final major project for my Art and Design Course Level 3, I'm very proud and I think it’s a clear representation on how I've developed my artist style over the years.

Vincent Van Gogh?

9of 20

In 2014 I dropped out of my Art course and moved away. In a completely different direction from my previous interests I started looking at Van Gogh a Post Impressionist painter . I know longer had the tools to be able to focus on sewing. Honestly I refused to paint at School and College I found it tedious!!!!! I really like the abstract style and recklessly neat brush stokes, there's so much movement and light in the images.

These are two paintings I did on my year break, I got a lot of positive feed back that at first I felt was undeserving, now they’ve both grown on me and I'm very happy. I created both of these with oil paints.

Patrick BremberThese 3 pieces are by Patrick Brember. I think through lots of my coursework I've always been happier collaging, it’s a safe option for me. Collaging helps me lower my inhibitions as I have less control over my media and marks. I'm so terrified of drawing and being stuck with it. I really love these three collage pieces, Its interesting to see the different shadows, shades and contours being recreated with different textures and colours, I personally think they create a more striking effect.

Pamela Campanga

12of 20

Pamela Campanga is a textile artist, I've only recently noticed her work. She uses nails to map out and image and fills in the details with string. I like the structure, pattern and effect. She's given the image depth and by using different coloured thread. I also really like how the thread creates shadows and adds more lines to the work. At some point Id like to create a portrait in the same or similar style.

Debbie Smyth

Debbie Smyth is also very similar to Textile artist Pamela Campanga. I think Debbie is more scruffy and gives the impression of stitching, It’s a carefully constructed mess. As you can see she uses objects and colour in her work. I think by doing this she adds another dimension to her flat piece of work and more wonderful shadows.

Marcus Harvey

14of 20

Marcus Harvey is an English painter. This is a controversial piece of work of Myra Hindley. At first sight, it resembles a greatly magnified version of a black and white photograph printed in a newspaper. It was made using casts of an infant's hand to build up a mosaic of black, grey and white handprints. Myra Hindley was an English serial killer. In partnership with Ian Brady, she committed the rapes and murders of five small children. Like Marcus Harvey and Banksy Id like to create a mind opening, gut wrenching piece of art. Id really like to create a controversial piece of art work.

Id like to incorporate as many or few of the so far seen interests in my work today. Maybe in one huge piece or lots of little pieces.

Thankyou.
