  • 30 DAYSOF PRAYER

Persecution of the Rohingya has been going on for decades in Myanmar, leading to most of the population being displaced – both locally and abroad. Few, if any, are not affected by displacement. Although far from ‘home’, we know that the Rohingya are close to the heart of God. Join us this Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, as we ask God to meet the Rohingya in the places they

    currently call home.

At this time, many of us are having to stay home due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Let us also spend time praying for how this global crisis impacts the Rohingya, and what it means for their future. Let’s pray they will encounter the Father’s heart and find

    their way home to him.

MYANMARArakan, now known as Rakhine State, Myanmar is the homeland of the Rohingya. Long gone are the days when Rohingya lived freely and in peace in this beautiful and fertile land. Rohingya culture is rich in beauty, from hand sewn needle point flowers, traditional music, to the plethora of flavors that come

from Rohingya curries and snacks. Now, their villages are no more, and most live in apartheid conditions in IDP camps.

APRIL 24Restriction of movement for Rohingya is a major issue. Countless have died because they were not able to

access proper health care. For others, restrictions to schooling and work opportunities have put them in a difficult spot both for the present and the future. Pray that God would work in the heart of the government to allow Rohingya to move freely, that they might have access to health care, education, and jobs.

APRIL 25While the majority of Rohingya live in Rakhine State, there are still large populations in other major

cities like Yangon. These Rohingya have better access to work and educations, however, they are still despised by the majority population. Christians are free to visit and interact with these Rohingya communities, but fear and misunderstanding seems to hinder this. Pray that God would raise up His Church both in Myanmar and abroad to reach out to these communities and display Christ’s love and grace to them.

    DAY 1

    DAY 2

APRIL 26International Court cases are underway against Myanmar for their treatment of the Rohingya and the

international community is watching closely. Ask God’s hand to be in all these cases and for Him to work out justice for the Rohingya and bring about viable solutions for their plight.

APRIL 27There is little to no access to the Rohingya communities in Northern Rakhine state. However, God is opening the

door via shortwave radio. An organization has begun broadcasting programs in the Rohingya language that include lessons on health, reconciliation, and other issues Rohingya face, all from a Gospel perspective. Pray that these programs would be heard and used by God to draw many people to Himself.

    DAY 3

    DAY 4

  • APRIL 28For two years now, the Myanmar military has been fighting with the Arakan Army, a Rakhine Buddhist

Militant group fighting for greater autonomy in Rakhine state. These clashes have led to thousands being displaced. Many Rohingya people and even children have been killed from land mines and air strikes. Pray God’s protection over the innocent in these conflict zones.

    DAY 5

For decades Rohingya have been fleeing persecution in Myanmar with the largest exodus taking place in 2017 as over 900,000 fled to Bangladesh.

Rohingya have been living in refugee camps in the southern tip of Bangladesh since the 1970s, with the new arrivals in 2017 the refugee population is now the largest refugee camp in the world. Life is not easy there.

APRIL 29Rohingya, already heavy with the weight of oppression on their backs, now again face even further restriction,

physically by a fence currently being constructed around the camps, and digitally with restricted cell phone access and blocked internet. All this is causing frustration and restlessness in the camps. Pray for healthy opportunities for the Rohingya to interact both with the local community, and their community globally.

APRIL 30There has been an increase in young, unmarried Rohingya women fleeing the camps being coerced

with hopes of work or marriage abroad. In the hands of human traffickers, they face dangers as they travel both overland and on the sea. Pray for God’s hand of protection over these precious women and that His love might be revealed to them.

MAY 1Various factors are making it increasingly difficult for Kingdom Workers to have access to the camps.

Many of these workers provide vital services to the Rohingya communities in areas of health, development, language, and aid. Furthermore, their presence allows for opportunities for the Gospel to go out in word and deed among the Rohingya. Pray for favor for these faithful servants and for open doors to bless and share the Gospel.

MAY 2For the past two years formal education has been restricted for Rohingya children in the camps. Praise

God, these restrictions are loosening, and new programs are beginning using the Myanmar curriculum. Pray for the Lord to provide a way for quality education and child enrichment in the camps.

    DAY 7

    DAY 8

    DAY 9

    BANGLADESH

MAY 3Sadly, domestic violence is common among the Rohingya. Many women live in fear, even in their own

homes, and report feeling “less protected” in the camps than they had felt in Myanmar. Pray for protection of Rohingya women, ask the Holy Spirit to comfort them. Pray for opportunities for them to hear the Gospel even though many are often not allowed to leave their homes.

    DAY 10

  • Rohingya have been living in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia for decades and in more recent years India. Undocumented or holding fake passports, many thought life in Muslim countries (or in Muslim areas of India) would be better, instead they have been despised and rejected by their host communities. Compared to

Rohingya communities in other countries their plight has gone relatively unnoticed.

MAY 4Without proper documents, Rohingya in Pakistan do not have proper access to education, jobs, and

healthcare. Many children who should be in school simply are not. Pray for the government of Pakistan to have mercy on the Rohingya, provide them with proper identification and allow them access to basic services.

    DAY 11

Many Rohingya look for a better life beyond the camps and have fled or been trafficked to other countries. Malaysia is the destination of choice; however, large groups have made it to Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and India among other locations.

    SAUDI ARABIA, INDIA,AND PAKISTAN

MAY 5Arakan Abad slum in Karachi, Pakistan, named after Myanmar’s Rakhine state (Arakan) is home to an

estimated 100,000 Rohingya. Ask God to raise up Christians who would be willing to go to this area and love and serve these beautiful people.

MAY 6Saudi Arabia is pressuring Bangladesh to take back 40,000 Rohingya who arrived on fake Bangladeshi

passports. Many Rohingya have also been held in detention centers for years and are fearful for their future. Ask God to intervene in their situations, protect them from injustice and fill their hearts with peace.

MAY 7Rohingya living in Saudi Arabia will probably never have contact with a follower of Jesus. Pray that God

would send dreams, visions, and miraculous signs to the Rohingya living there. Pray for new creative means to reach this community.

MAY 8A citizenship law amendment that was recently passed has put extra pressure on the Rohingya

community in India. Many have lost jobs because of fear among employers. In towns like Jammu, local officials are using the law to target Rohingya for deportation. Once again Rohingya are facing uncertainty. Ask God to enter into these situations. Pray for protection, and that what others are using for evil God would use for Good. Ask God to raise up the Indian church to reach out to the Rohingya.

    DAY 12

    DAY 13

    DAY 14

    DAY 15

  • With hopes of a better life, the Rohingya that arrive by boat in Malaysia are sun beaten, in tatters, and starving. Those arriving by land are being smuggled, treated worse than animals, and often held for ransom in jungle camps. Too often the dreams of freedom are quickly subdued by the realities of life.

    MALAYSIA

MAY 10Some local churches have seen the need of the Rohingya foreigners living among them and have a

growing heart to reach out and love them in the name of Christ. Pray for these local Christians as they minister to the Rohingya through, education, employment, and other outreaches.

MAY 12Praise God! He has been working in amazing ways among the Rohingya in Malaysia. Recently, a group

of men watched the Jesus film in their language. Another man, Mohamad, has many questions and has heard many stories of Jesus. Ask God to reveal himself in His timing and bring these and many more to faith.

MAY 13For Rohingya people, community is very important. Many who come to Malaysia long for their families

and communities back home. Pray for the cries of their heart to be found in Jesus and in the community of God.

MAY 9Rohingya people in Malaysia face huge injustice in their employment. Knowing they are seen as illegals,

employers can take advantage of them. Many have experienced working months for no wages. Pray for righteous employers who act justly and that show love and mercy to those in such need.

MAY 11For years, Rohingya single men were sent to Malaysia for work. Now, many of these men are ready to marry.

Rohingya women are increasingly being sent to Malaysia as brides and leaving their homes and families can be terrifying. Pray for protection from harm, for loving husbands, and for these women to connect with Christ followers.

    DAY 17

    DAY 19

    DAY 16

    DAY 18

From Malaysia many Rohingya try to be resettled as refugees in places like the United States, Australia, or Europe. The process can take many years and is not certain, many Rohingya children are born and grow up in Malaysia while their parents wait to be resettled.

  • For many Rohingya, America and other western countries are idealized as heaven on earth. However, reality sets in soon after arrival. Most begin their lives in rough neighborhoods where the housing is cheaper. Many have little to no English language or job experience, things as simple as shopping, finding work, and using

public transportation are very difficult. Sadly, many criminals often take advantage of vulnerable refugees like the Rohingya.

MAY 14Pray for awareness of Rohingya communities in the United States to spread among the American Church.

Ask God to give American believers the desire and boldness to build relationship with their Rohingya neighbors and reflect Jesus’ love.

MAY 15Pray for Rohingya who have family still overseas waiting for resettlement in places like the United

States. Many Rohingya miss and worry about their families daily. Ask God to give the Rohingya peace that He sees and cares for them and their families.

MAY 16Pray that God will bless the efforts of Rohingya refugees as they learn English and adapt to life in the

United States. A lot can be expected and assumed of new refugees and they can easily be overwhelmed by things like grocery stores, health care system, paying taxes, etc.

MAY 17Rohingya parents work long hours for little pay but say it’s worth it to give their children a future through

American education. Pray for these Rohingya children, ask God to bring them to Godly friendships in their schools and for their Christian classmates to show Christ love and compassion to them.

MAY 18A few Christian groups are gathering in the United States and beyond to meet and pray regularly for the

Rohingya. Praise God for these prayer groups, ask the Lord to give a burden to more Christians and for more of these groups to rise up and bring the Rohingya before God’s throne on a regular basis.

    DAY 25

    UNITED STATES

MAY 19: “NIGHT OF POWERTonight is the “Night of Power”, the most holy night of the year. Muslims spend all night in prayer believing

that God is especially gracious in answering prayers this night. Pray that the Ro would have spiritual encounters with the One True God.

    DAY 26

The Rohingya are searching for a true home. A place of safety and peace with freedom of fear. A Community where they are loved and accepted and where their identity is recognized and valued. In this world that will not be found, only Christ provides this as He invites us all, including the Rohingya into his Kingdom. Praise

God, He has been working and Rohingya are coming to faith!

    THE KINGDOM OFHEAVEN

  • MAY 20Pray for maturity, strength, and the Lord’s peace for Rohingya believers in the face of active persecution.

Ask God to fill them with the Holy Spirit, that in the face of their trials they might persevere and be a witness to all of the mighty work of Christ in their lives.

MAY 21Pray for unity and reconciliation amongst the Rohingya believers. Satan uses every weapon possible to

stop the Gospel, one of those being disunity and division among believers. Pray for humble leaders to be led by the Holy Spirit. Pray that their unity would be a testimony to their non-believing Rohingya brothers and sisters of the beauty and power of the Gospel.

MAY 22Teams are working diligently to create resources and translate the Bible for the Rohingya. Pray God’s

wisdom and protection over these teams as their efforts allow for further discipleship of the Rohingya Christians and for new avenues for sharing the Gospel with Rohingya Muslims.

MAY 23Whether you live in one of these countries mentioned above or not, chances are Rohingya live near you. Ask

God if he wants you to reach out to the Rohingya. Pray for his guidance on how you can personally join Him in making His name famous among these beautiful people.
